Chapter 1 "Good brother, let me give you a kiss..."
Springtime.
As Gao Cuilan walked along the ridges of the fields, he saw a few scattered farmers.
He was thin and quick-moving, carrying a food box that floated lightly like a gust of wind.
The servants following behind shouted repeatedly, "Third Young Master, slow down! Slow down! This narrow path is slippery, you might fall."
Gao Cuilan didn't stop, only slowing down when passing a few farmers taking a midday rest.
He wasn't far from them, and it wasn't hard to hear the idle, bored noises coming from over there.
The farmers had their backs to him. An old man took off his straw sandals and tapped the ashes on the ridge. Suddenly he said, "A few days ago, Grandpa Gao invited a sorcerer again. I wonder if he can subdue that demon this time."
Another old woman laughed and said, "This monster wife that the Gao family invited is easy to invite but hard to get rid of. She's clinging to her family because of some favors she's received, and with her son's protection, she'll probably eat them dry before she leaves."
Someone else chimed in, "In recent years, not many people have been seen going there. They must be afraid of the spirits."
Gao Cuilan composed himself, his smile fading, and his expression grew somber.
In the meantime, the servant caught up, panting heavily.
He said, "Third Young Master, I've finally caught up with you. The soil was loose and the road was slippery, and I almost fell into this field to become a seedling. After a few more spring rains, it will take root and sprout."
Gao Cuilan glanced at him sideways.
He should have gone to the edge of the field himself, but worried about the contents of the food box, he instructed his servants to tell the old women to keep their mouths shut and not to tarnish the reputation of others.
The servant readily agreed and turned to leave.
Gao Cuilan continued forward with a sullen face.
He walked for half a mile until he saw a woman in the fields in the distance, and his tightly furrowed brows finally relaxed a little.
The woman was holding a rake, loosening the soil and raking the ground.
She suddenly raised her arm and then brought it down hard.
She looked thin, but her movements were nimble, her body was toned and smooth, and she had inexhaustible strength that probably more than a dozen farmers couldn't match.
The spring sun shone brightly, casting a warm glow on her honey-colored skin.
Gao Cuilan's expression was warm, and he called her gently, "Bao'e."
Upon hearing this sound, Zhu Bao'e felt as if a gentle breeze had kneaded her heart, leaving her feeling tingly and lightheaded, almost causing her rake to miss its mark.
She leaned on her rake and looked over, saw Gao Cuilan, and hurriedly went to greet him: "Brother, the sun is blazing, how can you withstand this ordeal?"
"I saw it was hot, so I brought you some tea." Gao Cuilan raised her sleeve to wipe the thin layer of sweat from her forehead. "Thank you for your hard work and for remembering me."
Zhu Bao'e couldn't explain that she was worried about his skin being damaged by the sun, so she just mumbled an answer.
Even without her memories, she couldn't change her lustful nature.
Three years ago, she opened her eyes in Gao Lao Zhuang and only vaguely remembered that she had entered a book.
As for what book it was, and who she was, I can't remember.
She later heard from the Gao family that she lost her memory because she was hit on the head by a monster while rescuing Gao Cuilan.
She didn't know where to go, but the Gao family, out of gratitude, offered to keep her there.
It was supposed to be a wonderful thing, until they discovered she was also a demon, after which their attitude changed drastically.
Only Gao Cuilan, the third-year high school student, treated her with unwavering kindness and gentleness.
Right now, Zhu Bao'e is really thirsty after working for half a day.
She took the tea from Gao Cuilan and gulped down a few mouthfuls.
After drinking the water, she felt hungry again and was about to rummage through the box for food when she caught sight of his pale face.
With delicate eyebrows and phoenix eyes, her smile reveals a touch of warmth.
Her lips were naturally red, as if a pomegranate had been rolled around several times, leaving a clear, watery sheen.
Zhu Bao'e swallowed again out of nowhere, and immediately felt a craving. She leaned over to him affectionately and said in a coaxing tone, "Good brother, let me give you a kiss."
Her frankness made Gao Cuilan's cheeks flush slightly.
His heart stirred slightly, but he raised his sleeve and pressed the folding fan in his hand against her lips.
“Bao’e, you mustn’t,” he said softly. “In broad daylight, don’t let anyone see you, or it will tarnish your reputation.”
“So what if I see them? I only seek companionship in these fields and don’t go to anyone’s house. Besides, the birds on the branches pecking at each other, and no one laughs at them for losing their good reputation.” She stopped standing on tiptoe and craning her neck, simply swatting his fan away and tilting her head to face him. “But if you’re worried, brother, you can kiss me.”
Gao Cuilan couldn't help but laugh: "Good Bao'e, no, that won't do. We can talk about these things slowly when we get back, it won't be too late."
Bao'e was furious: "This won't do, that won't do! I think it's not just that I'm afraid it will damage my reputation, but your father is probably stirring things up behind my back, saying all sorts of bad things about me, and inciting you to think of me as some kind of man-eating monster, so you're refusing me in every way. If I go back, I'll come up with a thousand and one excuses."
Gao Cuilan composed herself and stopped smiling: "Bao'e, why would you think that? Did Father say something to you?"
"That ungrateful old fool didn't dare say a word to my face. He just thought I was some rat scurrying around at night, secretly asking around for sorcerers." Zhu Bao'e snorted again. "When I was helping him fetch water and plow the fields, why didn't he send his servants to stop me?"
“No wonder you’ve been leaving early and returning late these days, unwilling to stay home for long.” Gao Cuilan frowned and said, “You’ve suffered too much injustice in the past six months. Seeing you like this is truly agonizing for me, and I can’t bear it any longer. Bao’e, please don’t worry. I’ll go home and make arrangements now. From now on, we’ll divide the family property with Father and build our own residence.”
There were some things she kept to herself, never telling him.
This young master Gao has been frail since childhood, and only the doctor in his family knows about his many ailments.
If he were to divide the family fortune and start his own household, he might not be able to find a suitable doctor and end up looking pale and emaciated, which would be a waste of his good looks.
Gao Cuilan, however, was unaware of all this and simply thought that she was thinking of him.
“Bao’e…” His heart ached. “I’ve burdened you too much.”
“Good brother, how could I blame you?” Zhu Bao’e sighed. “I’m just afraid that you’ll listen to others’ instigation and resent me.”
As the saying goes, words can be put into practice. He stopped arguing and took a step forward, calling out to her, "Bao'e, Bao'e..."
When she looked up at the sound, he suddenly bent down and gently kissed her cheek, which was warm from the spring sun.
It was but a fleeting touch, like a dragonfly skimming the water, gone in an instant.
Bao'e felt a ticklish sensation from the dampness on his cheek. Before he could straighten up, she suddenly tilted her head back and bit his lip.
This young master Gao is always very proper in public, always believing that these kinds of things can only be done behind closed doors and under the covers. Now, his lips are slightly sore from being bitten, and he only thinks of her boldness while secretly scolding himself for being frivolous.
But the hand holding her wrist didn't push her away; instead, it tightened its grip.
Zhu Bao'e, who loved to push her luck, gripped his sleeve tightly, refusing to break the long, lingering kiss even a fraction of an inch.
Fortunately, the sun was shining brightly, and the golden sunlight woke Gao Cuilan, allowing him to pull his hands away before he could embrace her.
"Bao'e," he said, his breath unsteady, "it's no longer possible. Don't let anyone see us. We'll go home later."
Whenever this happens, his voice loses its usual clear and moist quality and becomes slightly hoarse.
Zhu Bao'e squinted as she listened, feeling as if ants were crawling into her ears, making her feel sour and tingly.
She couldn't help but shake her head twice, trying to shake it all off.
Still craving something, she grabbed his hand and said, "Good brother, you're not lying to me, are you?"
Gao Cuilan laughed.
"How could that be?" He raised his fan, pressed the tip against her palm, and slowly rubbed it back and forth a couple of times. "Bao'e, when have I ever lied to you?"
Feeling an itch in her palm, Zhu Bao'e cupped her hands, reaching for his folding fan.
He pulled out first, and then lightly patted her palm twice.
"Bao'e, don't just drool over it, your stomach is still empty." He opened the food box, and a fragrant aroma wafted out. "The food is still warm, eat more."
Zhu Bao'e was really hungry.
She had a huge appetite; once she ate over a hundred sesame cakes in a row, which shocked Old Master Gao so much that his eyes almost popped out.
Fortunately, there were several servants watching over him, who could press his eyes back in at any time.
She suspected that he was just annoyed by her eating too much and wasting his family's food, which was why he would frequently call in a sorcerer to capture her.
snort!
That cunning old fox will probably need to be beaten twice before she'll behave!
Bao'e mistook the vegetarian bun in her hand for the head of that old man Gao, stuffed it all into her mouth, and bit it hard to make it smear, only then did she feel relieved.
In a short while, the food was completely disinfected.
Gao Cuilan originally wanted to go back with her, but she refused no matter what, only urging him to hurry home so that his perfectly good face wouldn't get sunburned.
Zhu Bao'e only ate a little bit, and because she was still thinking about what Young Master Gao had said, she couldn't do anything properly.
Along the way, a few farmers approached her nervously and offered her some inexplicable apologies.
She couldn't be bothered to pay attention, and finally waited until dusk fell. After quickly getting ready, she transformed into a whirlwind and headed towards Gao Village.
That young master Gao was physically weak, gentle in nature, yet also strong-willed.
Because she and Grandfather Gao did not get along, although he could not leave the mansion for a while, he decided last year to move to the back house and live with her.
That night, she entered through the window as usual and immediately saw a blurry figure sitting by the bed.
Judging by his stature, he is indeed tall and slender.
She was overjoyed, her steps light, and asked him, "Brother, it's so dark, why don't you light a lamp?"
The person on the bed said, "Sitting on this bed without moving around, and not knowing when you'll come or what light you'll turn on."
Bao'e sensed something was off about his tone.
"Brother, are you upset that I didn't come back with you this afternoon? I did it to avoid Father-in-law and prevent you two from arguing again." She took a few steps forward and reached out to hug him.
Just then, the young master turned around and nimbly dodged, causing her to fall directly onto the bed, missing her target.
She braced herself against the bed, turned around and sat on the edge of the bed, annoyed, "You really are upset about this!"
“Sigh…” Young Master Gao had already stood up. “It’s just a small matter, why get angry? I’m just a little annoyed, sitting is tiring, standing is tiring too.”
"It must be sunburned! You shouldn't have come all that way today." Zhu Bao'e didn't even have time to sigh before she hurriedly stood up. "Let me see how sunburned you are."
Young Master Gao spun around again, avoiding her.
He caught a glimpse of her nearly grabbing a large vase in the corner, then suddenly turned his face away, lowered his neck, and chuckled twice, laughing so hard he almost fell over.
Zhu Bao'e was stunned for a moment, then scratched her cheek: "Good brother, why do you smile in such a mischievous and strange way? It really makes my heart flutter."
