As a weapons factory engaged in the production of military equipment, the Macedonian Arms Factory has been under construction for many years and has undergone several expansions. Today, its scale is indeed comparable to that of a military base. The factory area is 7.5 kilometers long and about 4 kilometers wide. Within this vast factory area, factories stand side by side. In recent years, the total amount of weapons produced in the factory has been increasing day by day because the army is expanding. Therefore, more weapons need to be produced here for the army's use. Without a doubt, the Macedonian Arms Factory can be called one of the heart of the empire.
Such an important place naturally requires a defense system. Along the outer edge of the factory area, there is a five-story watchtower at regular intervals. Each floor has corresponding firing windows and several cannons are placed inside. Although there are no towering and sturdy stone walls connecting the watchtowers, iron nets are arranged between them. With an armed force of six thousand people guarding the area, this defense system is sufficient to resist foreign invasion under normal circumstances.
After Harris brought urgent information about the fall of Foster Harbor and the entry of Yan people, Davis calmly issued an order to stop production. He then began distributing weapons. Drawing on his past experience in the military, he began to organize an army on the spot. Together with the factory's original 6,000-strong armed force, they would begin to build a defensive line with the Macedonian military factory as the core.
Thanks to the terrain where the Macedonian munitions factory was located, the construction of defensive lines was not difficult. The Macedonian munitions factory was near a mountainous area with undulating terrain, which naturally provided the conditions for building defensive lines. In addition, the transportation here was also convenient, with very wide roads in and out, and the ground was paved with flint, which was thick and hard. This was originally built for transporting military equipment out.
Davis envisioned turning this place into a defensive line. Even if the enemy attacked, as long as this place was held, and more friendly reinforcements arrived, they would be able to continuously wear down the enemy from here.
Surrounding the factory area is a dense forest. In preparation for a possible battle, Davis has expanded the patrol area by sending out sentries. They have ventured deep into the forest and temporarily set up several sentry posts to extend the perimeter as far as possible and gain the best possible understanding of the enemy's movements. The five-story watchtowers inside the factory area serve as lookouts. Although they are not as tall as the watchtowers on the coast, they can at least be used to observe the enemy's formation once they enter a certain range.
As for the roads leading in and out of the factory area, Davis has urgently dispatched his troops to set up defenses five kilometers outside the factory area. Once the roadblocks are in place, they will effectively hinder the enemy from attacking the Macedonian military factory.
This was the defense outside the factory area. Inside the factory area, Davis believed that the three-meter-high iron fence in the middle of the bunker was not enough to deal with a large-scale battle between nations. Therefore, he ordered his troops to start filling and transporting sandbags to pile up under the iron fence to prevent the enemy from launching artillery fire after approaching the factory area and causing damage to the factory area.
Outside the factory, temporary fortifications were being built, forming tactical trenches to effectively reduce soldier casualties. As for the main factory, although the building itself was already very sturdy, Davis still ordered all the windows to be sealed off to prevent stray bullets from entering the factory.
In addition to defending the military factory, Davis also hoped to minimize the damage to the factory in the upcoming battles.
While Davis was busy setting up defenses, a storm was brewing in the port of Bruno.
Port Bruno, inside the operations command center.
The Supreme Commander Bernhardt lay on the conference table, his face pale, his mouth and nose crooked, drool dripping from his open mouth, his eyes glazed over, his fingers bent like eagle claws, and his whole body twitching in a bizarre posture.
The meeting room was in complete chaos; the officers were in a state of panic, each one like a grasshopper on a hot plate.
"The medical officer is here!"
Several medical officers rushed into the command room, and the officers who had been surrounding Bernhardt slowly dispersed.
A dozen seconds later, a medical officer said somberly, "General Bernhardt has suffered a stroke."
As soon as he finished speaking, the officers turned pale, because it basically meant that there was no cure, and even if there was some relief afterward, Bernhardt would most likely be paralyzed.
"Sigh." Dingle, who had been standing next to Bernhardt, sighed heavily at this moment. He squatted down helplessly, took off his hat, and scratched his hair vigorously.
The medical officers had already put Bernhardt on a stretcher; they were determined to do everything they could to treat him, no matter what.
After the medical officers led Bernhardt away, the officers in the command room all sighed and lamented, each deeply saddened.
Bernhardt was already quite old, and had been under immense stress for the past few days, especially last night. The complete annihilation of the navy and the attack on Foster, one heavy blow after another, had caused immeasurable damage to Bernhardt's mental state.
Whether Foster Harbour could be held became his last line of defense and the last glimmer of hope supporting him.
But just moments before.
Riegl and Klein brought back the message from the troops they had led to support Foster Harbor.
"Foster Harbor has fallen! We cannot determine whether the enemy will send reinforcements, so we have changed our route and are heading to the Macedonian Arms Factory to set up defenses."
This devastating news became the final straw that broke the camel's back.
Bernhardt's last hope was extinguished. Overwhelmed by the guilt of losing the navy and the despair of the collapsed defenses, Bernhardt could no longer control himself. The taut string snapped, blood rushed to his brain, and he lost consciousness.
