"Sir...we've...completely lost...there's nothing we can do now." Hisoka said weakly, his face filled with despair, as he picked up his gun.
"Did we lose?" Dylan finally picked up a gun, but was disappointed to find that it was also empty, and he couldn't load it with one hand.
"We lost, we lost completely... Almost all of our men are dead." Hisoka's face was pale, and his voice was weak and even tinged with sobs, because on this battlefield, there were probably only a few hundred soldiers left who could still fight.
The number of enemies was so great that it was impossible to count them. This made Hisoka feel that the battle from last night until now had not caused the enemy much casualty. Otherwise, why would it be like this?
In contrast, almost the entire army group has been wiped out. Unlike before, when they could absorb new recruits and reorganize, this time, from top to bottom, almost everyone is dead. Even the commander beside him, Hisoka knows that he might become a corpse like him in a few minutes.
Looking back on all the battles he had experienced over the years, none had ever been as despairing as this moment. Therefore, even though Hisoka picked up a gun, he no longer had the will to aim at the enemy and fire, because everything was already set in stone, and even if he fired a hundred or a thousand more bullets, it would be of no use.
"I don't feel like I've lost at all?" Dylan said at that moment.
Hisoka turned to look at Dylan, who then said, "Shoot! What are you waiting for? To be shot dead by the enemy?"
"Sir, our entire army group is about to perish here, we..." Hisoka trembled all over, and his eyes were already red with tears.
"So what? I don't think we lost this battle." Dylan lay calmly on the ground, panting as he spoke.
Hisoka gave a bitter laugh: "Having come this far, you still don't think you've lost?"
"My initial order was to eliminate as many enemy troops as possible. Now, I believe we've eliminated enough. We're all giving it our all; no one is retreating. They're all fighting with all their might, so we haven't lost." At this point, Dylan suddenly kicked Hisoka and then yelled:
"Damn it, give me the gun if you're not going to shoot! I want to keep fighting!"
Hisoka didn't react at all. He lay helplessly on the ground with his head down, completely crushed by the cruel reality before him.
If this is the price of not losing, he even feels that it is self-deception.
"You coward!" Dylan cursed, slowly crawling to Hisoka's side, snatching the gun from his hand, and then began to check if there were any bullets inside.
Fortunately, the gun was loaded with bullets and could still fire. All that was needed was an enemy to catch the bullets, so Dylan began to cautiously look outside.
But at that moment, a series of intermittent sobs could be heard beside me.
Dylan's attention was interrupted. He angrily pulled back and looked at Hisoka, who was lying on the ground, and shouted, "Shut up!"
However, Hisoka was still sobbing. He wasn't crying because of whether the battle was won or not, but because of the Sixth Legion, which he was so proud of.
Before Enzos arrived, who could have imagined that such a massive army would be wiped out here in such a short time, and that in the end, everyone would be reduced to ashes?
With a loud "thump," Dylan kicked Hisoka, sending him sprawling. Then, he leaned forward, glaring fiercely at Hisoka's tear-streaked face, and roared:
"You can cry anytime, but as an Imperial soldier, how can you cry on the battlefield?!"
"From the moment you step onto the battlefield, you should be prepared to shed blood, not cry like a woman!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Hisoka sobbed, "But we have nothing left... nothing left..."
"That's just your opinion! Bastard! We may become corpses, but that doesn't mean everything is gone! Enzos is still here! The Empire is still here!"
"Our honor will live on forever!" Dylan shouted, then ignored the weeping Hisoka. He placed his gun on a corpse, gripped the handle tightly with his right hand, and began searching for the enemy by following the direction of the muzzle.
During this time, Hisoka gradually stopped crying, then slowly sat up and silently loaded the empty gun with the bullets he had picked up.
Dylan merely glanced at him without saying a word.
Soon, Dylan spotted an enemy peeking out from behind cover, and Hisoka also crouched down with his gun at that moment.
“There’s a bastard out there, I might miss with one shot,” Dylan said, gesturing with his chin.
“I saw it. I can hit it. My marksmanship is much better than yours.” Hisoka replied, his voice unusually hoarse, but his expression was much calmer, as if the previous conversation had never happened, or perhaps he had already accepted it all.
The two fought side by side once again, just like before.
"Let's see who can hit the target then." Dylan snorted and pulled the trigger, while Hisoka also pulled the trigger at the same time.
"Bang bang bang bang!"
Several gunshots rang out almost simultaneously.
Hisoka collapsed to the ground, his head slamming heavily against the earth. Blood began to seep from the gash between his eyebrows, and as his pupils dilated rapidly, he moved his lips and said:
"Glory will live on forever..."
Dylan fell backward to the ground, blood gushing from his neck where a bullet had pierced it.
Blood quickly gushed from his throat into his mouth, staining half of Dylan's pale face with blood. His eyes, which were gradually losing focus, were still looking at the sky.
"What a bunch of cunning bastards..."
It was past noon, but the sky remained dark and gloomy, foggy and cold. The swirling pure white snowflakes mingled with the ash from the gunfire, making the entire sky look dirty, as if it were covered in mold.
Beneath this gloomy sky, the towering peak seemed to extend into the heavens to Dylan. The sound of enemy footsteps grew louder and more numerous around him, yet Dylan gradually revealed a smile. Before the smile was completely obscured by the falling, dirty snow, indistinct words slowly escaped from his blood-filled throat:
"It's up to you, Harris... End this battle... Bury everyone...."
