Chapter 851 The Burial Mountain (End)

"Sir, it's almost time."

"Sir."

"Sir?"

At the edge of the cliff at the summit, seeing that Harris didn't seem to hear, the Gothic soldier who had spoken walked over and gently patted him on the shoulder.

Harris snapped out of his daze and turned to look at the soldier who had spoken.

The young soldier, pale-faced, his throat bobbing as he uttered a trembling voice: "Sir, we can't wait any longer, we should... detonate the explosives."

Harris stared at him blankly for a few seconds before turning her face back to look down the cliff.

What came into view was an ever-growing number of enemy troops gathering on the mountain pass, while the sounds of gunfire had become so few as to be almost negligible, which meant that the battle was coming to an end and it was time to conclude it.

The Enzos Mountains, which were once thought to be invincible, are now largely under enemy control after the pass was breached. The Sixth Army, which was once thought to be invincible, is now almost completely annihilated. Harris looked at the devastated battlefield below and seemed to see hundreds of thousands of souls wandering around. This stirred up a storm of emotions in him, but his face, frozen stiff, could no longer express any emotion.

Having witnessed too many cruel and tragic scenes, he had become so numb that he was like a walking corpse.

But at least he hadn't forgotten what he needed to do, so he reached for his pocket watch, looked at the swinging hands, and then said in a hoarse voice:

"Okay, inform them that we'll light the fire together in ten minutes... that is... 1:18 PM."

"Yes, sir." The soldier faced Harris, trying his best to control his trembling body, gave a standard military salute, and after staring at Harris for a few seconds, he pursed his lips, unconsciously panting heavily, and quickly walked away.

Harris did the same; he took a deep breath, quickly left the cliff, and headed towards his explosive detonation point.

He arrived at his destination in no time. After placing the pocket watch on the ground, Harris took out a steel stone from his pocket and stared intently at the movement of the hands.

The wind was blowing hard, but at that moment he seemed to hear the very faint sound of the hands turning. Although he tried to concentrate on watching the hands, he gradually drifted off into his own thoughts.

Recent events flashed quickly through my mind, then back to the distant past, before vaguely returning to the present. When the focus returned to the spinning hands, there was less than a minute left.

So Harris opened his mouth, attempting to end it all by shouting the national anthem, and to bring his life to a close.

However, despite thinking this in her heart, she couldn't utter a single syllable from her throat; she could only groan intermittently, letting out broken sobs.

Only now did he finally understand that he felt no joy at the impending annihilation of the enemy, nor did he feel much vengeful anger towards them. As for the glory of a soldier, that was far from the point of discussion. What occupied his heart more was the immense sorrow and pain brought about by this cruel reality.

How could this happen? Why did it turn out this way?

As the hands seemed to spin faster than ever before, Harris burst into tears as if a string in his heart had been snapped. This was a far cry from the tragic hero he had imagined countless times in his mind, detonating the explosives at the last moment to end everything.

Harris, weeping bitterly, looked like a newborn child or a pathetic wretch. He knelt on the ground, trembling uncontrollably, and repeatedly struck the steel stone in his hand.

"Bang, bang, bang."

Sparks fell from my hand, mingling with salty tears, onto the ground, while the snow fell even heavier...

——

At the same time, inside the Yan Army camp.

A dozen minutes ago, Qin Ze received a message from the communications soldier that the battle on the pass was basically over, and they were finishing off the remaining Golts to ensure that every one of them was killed.

Although the news of the victory came a little late, and the battle resulted in heavy casualties, Qin Ze knew that capturing the pass basically meant that his side had a huge advantage in Enzos. This battle also showed that the Goths probably didn't have any troops outside the pass. If they did, they would have already concentrated their forces on the pass.

Therefore, at this moment, Qin Ze was issuing the next instructions to the messenger:

"We need to thoroughly investigate the mountain pass area to ensure there are no hidden dangers left by the enemy. Once the investigation is complete, we don't need to rush. We can continue our march after the snow stops. I think this snowfall is quite heavy, but before that, we still need to send out the vanguard combat group to scout the route. However, this time is different from the past, and I think it should go much more smoothly."

"in addition....."

Just then, a loud "boom" was heard.

Qin Ze's expression changed. Just as he looked up, several violent explosions followed, and then a deafening roar like a tiger's roar or a dragon's cry.

This even affected the area where Qin Ze was located; even here, he could feel the ground shaking.

"Your Majesty, we must also retreat some distance to avoid affecting this area," the soldiers beside him said urgently.

——

"Boom boom boom!"

Amidst the deafening explosion, the mountainside crumbled and rocks tumbled. Initially, only a small section of the steep mountainside collapsed at the point of explosion, and the Goth who ignited the explosives was buried by the mountainside almost immediately after the explosion. But this was just the beginning.
