Wolfgang's palms were already sweaty. He took a slight breath and continued:
"These recent battles have shown that Yan Kingdom's military strength is clearly superior to ours. We...we simply cannot defeat them."
"So I think... perhaps we need to find a different way to end this war..."
Just then, von Palen suddenly stood up from his chair, which startled Wolfgang, who nearly dropped the pipe he was holding.
Immediately afterwards, von Palen walked around the chair toward Wolfgang.
Wolfgang was horrified. Cold sweat poured down his temples. He quickly stood up, filled with remorse, cursing himself for being so foolish as to use such a stupid method to talk to Von Palen about this.
He stared intently at the waist of Von Palen, who was walking towards him, where a short-handled musket was hanging.
But the gun was not pulled from its holster; instead, Von Palen walked over and sat down on the table in front of Wolfgang.
He sat on the edge of the table, reached out and pressed down on Wolfgang's flustered shoulder, making Wolfgang sit back in his chair.
Then, he looked at Wolfgang and said:
"Wolfgang, are you trying to surrender to the Yan people?"
Wolfgang dared not answer anymore; his face was ashen, and his jaw began to tremble uncontrollably.
Feng Palen tilted his head and looked at him:
"Look at you, what are you afraid of?"
"If you're afraid I'll shoot you dead, then you still have dignity and know what shame is."
“But if you are afraid of the Yan people, then you are not worthy of being a Goth; you have no sense of shame.”
“No, Your Majesty, I…” Wolfgang shook his head repeatedly.
Von Palen interrupted coldly, "I believe that the Wolfgang I know will not be afraid of the strength of the enemy."
“Not just you, I firmly believe that every Goth is the same, they will never be afraid because of this.”
At this point, von Palen raised his head and sighed:
"However, as this war has progressed to this point, even you seem to be wavering."
"But we must say that we are indeed suffering defeat after defeat, which is a real test of our will."
“People with weak wills will think at this time... ‘War is so cruel, God, we should end this damn war.’”
Wolfgang shrank back in his chair, not daring to look up at von Palen, but von Palen leaned forward, placed a hand on his shoulder, and continued with a deep gaze:
"But listen carefully."
"Only the inherently weak fear war, finding it too cruel, and these people are destined to be eliminated; they do not deserve to live. If you want to live, then join the war; only by becoming the ruler of the war can you have the right to survive."
"This includes everyone, every nation, including us, so if we cannot pass the test of this war, then we do not deserve to survive."
"Does this feel cruel? But I'm telling you, this is reality."
"Because war will always exist in this world, and that cannot be changed."
