Chapter 131 Grandma Gu Arrives
For several days in a row, Gu Yihan's life was peaceful, except for Xiao Wu who frequently came to visit her.
In the courtyard
Gu Yihan had just finished washing up and was getting ready for bed when she heard a knock on the door.
Thinking it was Lu Huailin returning, she happily ran over to open the door.
Smiling, she opened the door, only to find it was Li Yaqing; a flicker of disappointment crossed her eyes.
She then looked at the other person with a puzzled expression: "Sister Ya Jing, why are you here so late?"
Li Yaqing stepped forward, took Gu Yihan's arm, and said with a wronged expression, "Xiaohan, please let me stay for two days."
Gu Yihan pulled her arm away, closed the courtyard gate first, and then turned to ask Li Yaqing, "What happened?"
Li Yajing puffed out her cheeks and said angrily, "It's all because of my aunt, who found a blind date for my cousin."
"If you have nowhere else to stay, you can only stay in my room. I don't want to live with strangers."
Li Yaqing looked at Gu Yihan with pitiful eyes like a fawn, her unspoken message being: I want to stay at your house.
Gu Yihan sighed helplessly: "We have another bedroom in our house."
She led Li Yajing into the bedroom, took out quilts and bedding from the closet, and prepared to make the bed.
Li Yaqing took the bedding from Gu Yihan and said with a smile, "I'm already going through so much trouble staying at your house, how could I let you make my bed?"
Gu Yihan looked at Li Yajing, who was neatly making the bed, and thought of Xiao Wu, who came to check in every day, and felt a terrible headache.
She asked in a low voice, "Sister Ya Jing, do you still remember Xiao Wu?"
After making the bed, Li Yaqing took the quilt from Gu Yihan and asked in confusion, "I remember you, isn't that the silly boy who was holding Mao Mao's hand that day?"
Gu Yihan was stunned. This metaphor was brilliant. Xiao Wu looked at Li Yajing and thought she was a complete idiot.
She carefully considered her words before asking, "What do you think of him?"
After making the bed, Li Yaqing got up, turned to look at Gu Yihan, and said with a light laugh, "Xiaohan, you're not suited to be a matchmaker."
Gu Yihan: "..."
Seeing Gu Yihan's embarrassed expression, Li Yaqing burst out laughing.
"Okay, he seems to run into me every day, whether intentionally or unintentionally. I'll talk to him about it tomorrow and make it clear that I won't let him contact you anymore."
Gu Yihan was delighted to hear this and said to Li Yaqing with a smile, "Okay, Sister Yaqing, you can rest now."
After saying that, Gu Yihan happily went back to her bedroom to sleep.
Since that day, Xiao Wu has never come to the courtyard to look for Gu Yihan again, and she really feels relieved to have nothing to worry about.
Sunday
After finishing breakfast, Gu Yihan sat in the courtyard, looking at the vegetable garden not far away.
Lu Huailin used to tinker with it a lot when he wasn't on a mission, but now he's been gone for two weeks.
Gu Yihan felt a little nostalgic for him.
"Thump, thump, thump."
Is Sister Gu home?
Gu Yihan recognized the voice. When she opened the door, she found it was a soldier guarding the family compound.
She looked at the other person suspiciously. Was something wrong?
Before Gu Yihan could even ask, she was interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Xiao Han?"
Gu Yihan was stunned when she heard the voice, and looked incredulously at Grandma Gu behind the gatekeeper.
She walked quickly to Grandma Gu's side, looking at her thin, bony face. She said with heartache, "Grandma, how did you become so thin?"
Grandma Gu hugged Gu Yihan tightly and burst into tears, crying, "Little Han, they won't take care of me."
Gu Yihan gently patted Grandma Gu's back and coaxed her softly, "Grandma, don't cry. We're home now. You can live here from now on."
After Grandma Gu finished crying, Gu Yihan took her arm and said, "Let's go home first."
Before entering the courtyard, Gu Yihan asked the soldier guarding the gate to wait for her for a while, and he nodded expressionlessly.
Gu Yihan led Grandma Gu into the living room and had her sit on the sofa.
The guard stood at the gate, waiting for Gu Yihan. After a while, she came out, carrying a can of food, and handed it to him.
He quickly said, "Sister-in-law, I can't accept your things."
Then he added, "Since that old lady is your relative, you can go to the door to sign sometime."
Gu Yihan's face turned cold, and she shoved the food directly into his hand.
Pretending to be angry, she said, "You can keep it; it's not anything good. Thank you for bringing my grandma over."
Gu Yihan wasn't really being polite; just look at Grandma Gu's patched clothes and her thin, almost fleshless face.
If it were someone else guarding it, they wouldn't have the patience to deliver it.
Seeing that he couldn't refuse, the soldiers guarding the gate had no choice but to take the canned food back.
In the living room
Grandma Gu sat on the sofa with unease, gently stroking the soft cushions, worried that she might break them.
As soon as Gu Yihan entered the living room, she saw Grandma Gu preparing to stand up.
He quickly went over, pressed Grandma Gu down on the sofa, and said, "Grandma, sit down and relax. I'll go cook you a bowl of noodles."
Grandma Gu looked at her little granddaughter; she was still so beautiful after all these years.
With tears welling up in her eyes, she quickly replied, "Okay."
Gu Yihan went into the kitchen first. After the water boiled, she put some water from her spatial dimension into it, which would be good for Grandma Gu's health.
She placed the cooked egg noodles on the dining table in the living room.
Gu Yihan carefully helped Grandma Gu to sit down at the dining table and handed her chopsticks.
She whispered, "Grandma, you eat first, I'll go boil some water for your bath."
After Gu Yihan left, Grandma Gu was eating noodles in the living room when she noticed there was an egg in the noodles.
Tears streamed down her face; she couldn't even remember the last time she'd had a proper meal.
Gu Yihan was in the kitchen, and only returned to the living room after estimating that Grandma Gu had almost finished eating.
She walked into the living room with a smile, took Grandma Gu's hand, and said happily, "Grandma, I'm so happy you're here."
Grandma Gu's eyes were red, and she held Gu Yihan's hand tightly: "Xiaohan, ever since your father came to the military region and went back, the family has been divided."
“Your grandfather followed your eldest uncle, and I followed your father.”
Gu Yihan was stunned. Could it be that dividing the family property meant separating the elderly couple?
She hesitated before asking, "Grandma, you're here, but what about Grandpa?"
A flash of hatred crossed Grandma Gu's eyes. She said coldly, "All the money you've sent me over the years has been secretly given to your aunt by your grandfather."
"They're living a good life."
Gu Yihan couldn't believe that her grandfather would secretly give the family's savings to her aunt.
After noticing Gu Yihan's expression, Grandma Gu said sarcastically, "Your grandfather is only worried about himself, afraid that your aunt will think he's too old."
"Giving her the family's savings was just to please your aunt and avoid being disliked."
"Your grandfather never considered that if I followed the second son and they didn't see any benefits, they would treat me differently."
Gu Yihan didn't want to comment further on the people of Gujia Village.
In her past life, having lived in an orphanage since childhood, she knew all too well how terrible poverty could be, and how it breeds wicked schemes.
She calmed Grandma Gu down and patiently said, "Grandma, you'll live with us from now on, and I'll take care of you."
Grandma Gu was also extremely saddened, as she knew that Gu Yihan was not related to her family by blood.
In the end, it was this granddaughter, who was not related to him by blood, who did not look down on him.
