Chapter 138 Such is Nature
Fang Yi's eyes flickered when she saw the box on the dressing table.
She reached out to grab the box, but Gu Yihan snatched it away with lightning speed.
Seeing this, Lu's mother stood up abruptly, suppressing the urge to lash out.
He couldn't lose face for Fang Yi in front of his younger daughter-in-law.
He could only smile and say to Gu Yihan, "Xiaohan, are you hungry? Let's go downstairs to eat."
Gu Yihan pretended not to notice Lu's mother's emotions.
She didn't even glance at Fang Yi, who was standing to the side, but instead put the box in the cabinet.
Turning to her mother with a smile, she said, "Mom, now that you mention it, I do feel a little hungry."
With a smile in her eyes, Lu's mother looked down on her eldest daughter-in-law, who lacked any sense of propriety, even more than Gu Yihan had.
Then, Lu's mother glared at Fang Yi, who was standing to the side like a wooden stake: "Aren't you going to hurry up and leave? Didn't you say you were hungry earlier?"
Fang Yi didn't see what was inside the wooden box, and her heart felt like it was being scratched by a cat.
I always felt that Lu's mother gave Gu Yihan more than she gave herself.
Seeing that she didn't react, Lu's mother simply reached out and pushed Fang Yi out the door.
He turned around, took out a key from his pocket, and handed it to Gu Yihan, saying, "This is the key to your bedroom. Keep it for yourself."
"Mom, we're all family, there's no need to lock the door."
Fang Yi grumbled unhappily.
Gu Yihan reached out and took the key, a smile playing on her lips, thinking to herself that this mother-in-law was easy to get along with.
She called out happily, "Thank you, Mom."
After locking the bedroom door, Gu Yihan took Lu's mother's arm and said affectionately, "Mom, let's go downstairs."
"Why."
Lu's mother responded, and the two chatted and laughed, ignoring Fang Yi behind them.
Fang Yi stomped her foot in anger when she saw that neither Lu's mother nor Gu Yihan greeted her.
He muttered to himself, "What kind of person is he? He really treats himself like a thief."
Downstairs living room
Hearing footsteps on the stairs, Mr. Lu said expressionlessly, "The food is ready and waiting for you."
After saying that, he put down the newspaper in his hand, stood up, and walked to the head of the table to sit down.
Lu Huailin stood up from the sofa and walked straight to Gu Yihan's side, taking his wife's hand and heading towards the dining table.
Brother Lu smiled broadly and said happily, "Mom, look at my little brother, he knows how to take care of people after getting married."
Gu Yihan glared at Lu Huailin, feeling embarrassed.
Lu Huailin didn't care about his family's opinions. He served his wife rice, poured water, and got her chopsticks.
Sitting next to Lu's father, Lu's mother glared at Lu's eldest brother and sneered, "Don't you know how to cherish your own wife?"
Brother Lu glanced at Fang Yi, who was sitting silently next to him, and a hint of doubt flashed in his eyes.
She knew that Lu's mother was teasing her on purpose to help her younger siblings out of an awkward situation.
He touched his nose sheepishly and stopped talking.
Mrs. Lu used serving chopsticks to pick up a piece of fish and placed it in Gu Yihan's bowl, saying softly, "Xiaohan, this is our home, no need to be polite."
Gu Yihan looked at the fish in the bowl, then looked up at Lu's mother and smiled, replying, "Thank you, Mom."
Lu Huailin also picked up a piece of braised pork and put it into his wife's bowl.
He said to Lu's mother, "Mom, you should eat too. I'll take care of my wife."
Brother Lu turned to look at Fang Yi, who was silent, and casually picked up a piece of braised pork and put it in her bowl.
Fang Yi looked at the meat that had suddenly appeared in the bowl and pouted.
Mr. Lu frowned and glanced at his eldest daughter-in-law: "Why didn't you bring Miaomiao along so she could meet her second aunt?"
Fang Yi paused, her hand holding the chopsticks still, thinking to herself, "Does she even deserve to have my daughter call that country bumpkin 'Second Aunt'?"
He looked at Gu Yihan with an apologetic expression and said, "Sister-in-law, I'm really sorry."
"The temperature suddenly dropped, and Miaomiao caught a cold, so I didn't let her come."
Gu Yihan looked at Fang Yi with a smile and said, "The child's health is important."
Mother Lu tried to smooth things over, saying with a smile, "Eat quickly, or the food will get cold."
After the family finished their meal happily, the nanny, Sister He, cleared the table.
When Lu's mother saw Gu Yihan sitting on the sofa, her eyes were so sleepy that she could barely keep them open.
He quickly called to Lu Huailin, "Pregnant women are prone to drowsiness. Take your wife back to the room to rest."
Lu Huailin didn't hesitate, knowing his wife was probably tired, so he took her hand and went straight upstairs.
In the bedroom
Gu Yihan, who had been lying down, suddenly perked up and got up.
She opened the cabinet, took out the box given to her by her mother, and handed it to Lu Huailin, who was sitting on the bed.
Lu Huai looked at his wife with a puzzled expression, took the box and shook it; it was quite heavy.
Seeing Lu Huailin's actions, Gu Yihan laughed and said, "This was given by Mom. She said my sister-in-law also got one."
Lu Huailin didn't pay much attention to what he heard, and instead of opening it, he casually tossed it onto the bed.
He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Gu Yihan's waist, his Adam's apple bobbing twice, and said, "Your mother gave it to you, so just take it."
After saying that, he kissed her cheek with rapid breathing.
He slowly slid down to Gu Yihan's neck and said with a wronged expression, "Wife, it's been three months, I missed you."
Gu Yihan smiled as she watched Lu Huailin rub against her like a big puppy.
She herself was also somewhat interested, and returned Lu Huailin's kiss. Soon, ambiguous sounds filled the room.
On the other side
Fang Yi sat on the bed, feeling very unhappy.
She always felt that Gu Yihan was superior to her as soon as she arrived. She never expected that a country girl would be so beautiful.
When Brother Lu came back from smoking outside, he frowned and looked at Fang Yi: "Why did you look so pale during dinner?"
"Luckily, my sister-in-law didn't notice, otherwise she would have thought we didn't welcome her."
Fang Yi felt annoyed when she heard Gu Yihan's name, but she didn't dare show it to Lu Huaixu.
Instead, she changed the subject, saying, "I saw Mom give my younger brother and sister-in-law a box today."
Brother Lu paused as he took off his coat.
Her sharp gaze fell on Fang Yi: "When you first married into the family, didn't Mom give you a box too?"
"Why is it okay to give it to you, but not to your sister-in-law?"
Fang Yi's face stiffened, and she stammered, "You're the eldest son in the family, so shouldn't everything in the family belong to you?"
Brother Lu laughed angrily: "My mother's things, she can give them to whomever she wants, you don't need to question it."
After saying that, he put on the coat he had just taken off, slammed the door, and left.
Mrs. Lu sat in the living room chatting with Mr. Lu.
Hearing footsteps and seeing the eldest son's angry face, one could tell without asking that the couple had been arguing.
He sighed and said, "I don't know how Fang Yi ended up like this."
Brother Lu walked over and sat down opposite his mother, managing a weak smile. He couldn't understand it himself.
He and Fang Yi were classmates and had been together since high school. Her family favored boys over girls, so she always lived a very cautious life.
I never imagined that after only 10 years of marriage, she would have had so many good days that she would have forgotten how poor she used to be.
Mr. Lu glanced at his eldest son and looked at him meaningfully: "Your judgment is far inferior to your younger brother's."
"This is your wife's true nature; she didn't change later."
