Han Weidong is about to be discharged from the hospital. The saddest person is Liu Jiu, because she can no longer visit the handsome uncle every day.
These past two days, Liu Jiu went to the hospital after dinner to report for duty and chatted with Han Weidong. Tie Dan followed along, and the two little ones got a lot of good food from Han Weidong, all of which were sent from his family.
Liu Jiu probably felt embarrassed, so she specially brought Han Weidong a meal. Her mother made radish-filled buns, and she generously took four of them, put them in a lunchbox, and took them to the hospital.
"Uncle Han, I brought you some steamed buns."
"steamed stuffed bun?"
Han Weidong really likes Liu Jiu, and the two have developed a deep friendship these past two days, chatting happily. Otherwise, he'd be incredibly bored sitting here alone.
"Yes, my mom steamed it at noon, it's still warm. I've eaten so much delicious food from you, I have to repay you."
Liu Jiu looked at Han Weidong expectantly and handed him the lunchbox she had brought.
Looking at the appealing-looking steamed buns, Han Weidong thought that since Captain Lin's aunt cooked so well, Liu Jiu's mother's skills couldn't be any worse. He took a bite, and a third of the bun was gone.
Han Weidong chewed a couple of times and could taste the filling: radish, dried shrimp, and glass noodles. But why, even when the three ingredients were combined, could he still clearly taste their original flavors?
He had eaten radish, vermicelli, and dried shrimp buns made by Aunt Lin before, and they definitely didn't taste like this. Seriously, there was absolutely no aroma; the radish tasted like radish, the dried shrimp tasted like salty and fishy dried shrimp, and the salt just tasted like salt!
"Uncle Han, why aren't you eating?"
"Um, Liu Jiu, Uncle isn't hungry yet. He'll be full after eating this one."
With tears in his eyes, Han Weidong ate the remaining two-thirds of the buns. Before he could even swallow them, he gulped down more than half a vat of cold boiled water.
My goodness, the taste of these steamed buns is truly indescribable. They've preserved the original flavor of the food to the greatest extent possible. Apart from being salty, they really have no other taste.
"Liu Jiu, who usually cooks at your house?"
“My mom cooks when my dad isn’t home. I wish my dad would cook every day.”
Liu Jiu has gotten used to it; she can now eat her mother's cooking along with her maternal grandmother's side dishes and still feel full.
"Oh dear, Uncle Han, I forgot to bring you the side dishes my grandma made."
Liu Jiu looked at Han Weidong with sympathy, then suddenly ran out.
Liu Jiu ran home, "Mom, pack some of the side dishes Grandma made. I forgot to bring some for Uncle Han. He was full after eating just one bun, just like when I don't have any side dishes."
Liu Jiu's serious words struck a chord with her mother.
Bonnie didn't want to say anything more. She filled a bowl with a side dish her mother had made and gave it to Liu Jiu, her little darling. "Hurry up and leave, it's too heartbreaking."
Liu Jiu took the bowl her mother handed her and ran off quickly to deliver it to Uncle Han.
"Uncle Han, this side dish was made by my grandma."
Han Weidong looked at Liu Jiu with tears in his eyes. He was determined to make this friend; she was so heartwarming. He was torn about whether to eat or not. There were still three buns left. Not eating them would be a waste of food, but eating them was a complicated matter!
With the side dishes, the steamed buns tasted so much better; they tasted like happiness.
After eating all the steamed buns, Han Weidong took out all his favorite treats: White Rabbit milk candy, chocolate, malted milk powder, dried meat, canned food... These were the New Year's gifts he had just received today, delivered to him by Li Gang.
"Six Nine, these are all for you, eat them."
"Uncle Han, you can't eat so many snacks, your teeth will hurt."
Liu Jiu solemnly recited her mother's instructions, resolutely refusing to eat, and also refusing to eat so much delicious food from others. Han Weidong had no choice but to open a bag of dried meat, and the two slowly chewed on it.
Outside the family compound, some of Han Weidong's female fans tried to get in to bring him delicious food, but unfortunately, not just anyone could enter the family compound.
Some of the disheartened girls left, leaving only one white one.
Xiaoxiao.
She used to live in the family compound, so she knew the rules and some loopholes. Therefore, after all the other girls left, Bai Xiaoxiao successfully blended into the compound and went to the clinic to find Han Weidong.
After getting the nurse's instructions and knowing Han Weidong's room number, Bai Xiaoxiao straightened her clothes, habitually smoothed her hair, and pushed open the door to go inside.
"Brother Han, are you feeling better? I was so worried when I heard you were hurt, really, I..."
Bai Xiaoxiao, speaking in a strained voice, thought she had presented her best side, but unexpectedly, instead of moving Han Weidong, she met the curious eyes of Liu Jiu and Tie Dan. She swallowed her words abruptly, her face flushed red; she hadn't expected there to be two children in the ward.
"Auntie, your voice sounds so strange. Can you do magic tricks?"
Liu Jiu was very curious. She had heard her mother say that some people could perform magic tricks and imitate bird calls, and she had always wanted to see it for herself.
"Auntie, can you imitate bird calls? Can you conjure up other things?"
Bai Xiaoxiao was bewildered by the two children staring at her and the little girl's barrage of questions. Who was she? Where was she? What was she doing here?
"Ha ha……"
Han Weidong laughed out loud, not in a good way. Liu Jiu was a good friend; he had exposed the fake woman's mask.
Bai Xiaoxiao fled in a disheveled state under Han Weidong's meaningful gaze. He knew everything—his purpose, his family's purpose. That mocking look made her feel utterly ashamed, as if she had been stripped naked and had nowhere to escape.
"Why did Auntie leave? What was she doing here? Can she do magic tricks?"
Tie Dan and Liu Jiu looked at Han Weidong with suspicion, wanting to know the answer.
Han Weidong was dumbfounded. No matter how he answered, he couldn't perform magic tricks.
After running out of the residential compound, Bai Xiaoxiao calmed herself down. She felt lost, wondering what to do next. A large group of educated youth had arrived, and they were told that more would come. When would they be able to go back?
Han Weidong's hopes were basically dashed; perhaps he needed to find a way out. None of his other sisters or cousins had gone to the countryside; he was the only one who had followed orders and come to this godforsaken place…
Liu Jiu was a little disappointed that she didn't see any magic tricks. She chatted with Uncle Han for a while, refused his treats, and went home hand in hand with Tie Dan.
At home, Dad was surprisingly home! What a pleasant surprise! Dinner will be delicious.
"Dad, what are we having for dinner?"
"Eat steamed buns. Didn't your mom make a big pot of them?"
Gu Ye was playing with his daughter when he saw her face gradually darken, her disappointment almost overflowing.
Bonnie gritted her teeth inwardly. This girl was no good; she was too treacherous.
"Alright, tonight we'll have braised pork with potatoes and fried small fish."
"That's great, Dad, I love you!"
Gu Ye was drunk; everything else was just an illusion, except for the overwhelming love his daughter had for him.
"Okay, go play with your little brother for a while. Dad is starting to cook."
With great enthusiasm, Gu Ye swung his cleaver in a circular motion, leaving a blur in his wake!
Liu Jiu went to look at Sanqi with satisfaction. It was a pity that Sanqi couldn't eat delicious meat yet!
