Chapter 113 Reclamation Team

Gu Ye had never been to this small island before, only knowing that it was under military jurisdiction and didn't actually have any military secrets; it was just a transit point. Now that the transit point had moved to another small island, this one was accessible.

The pool in front of them was quite large. Apart from Bonnie, the others were all surprised. None of them had ever been here before and had no idea that there was such a large pool on the island.

"Let me tell you, the water in this pool is very sweet."

"What? You've drunk the water from here?"

Gu Ye asked anxiously, "How dare you! Do you even know what kind of water this is? You're incredibly reckless to drink it. We don't even know where this water comes from, where it flows to, or if it's just stagnant water."

"It's okay, my second brother and I both drank it, and it's been a long time, so there's nothing wrong with us."

Bai Chaoyang and the others looked at each other, unsure of what to say.

"Sister-in-law, I really don't know whether to say you're lucky or brave. We wouldn't drink water like this unless it's absolutely necessary."

Bai Chaoyang and Lin Baoni were quite familiar with each other, and Bai Chaoyang expressed what everyone was thinking.

Bonnie is trying to recall why she came to this island in the first place.

Dig deep into your memories and uncover the truth.

Bonnie was heartbroken after failing to get into university after graduating high school, and her second brother helped her cheer up. The two of them secretly rowed out in their boat and stumbled upon this small island, where they discovered this pool of water. Thirsty and hot, the siblings didn't think twice before gulping down the water.

Bonnie stared at the pool of water, wondering if it was connected to an underground river. Over the years, the water level hadn't changed at all, and the rock on the bank had just disappeared.

May Goddess Mazu protect us!

Looking at the blue sky and white clouds, Bonnie prayed in her heart that the Goddess Mazu would bless the original Lin Bonnie so that she too could have a wonderful adventure and live a good life in some space or world on Earth. She deserved to be blessed.

Gu Ye could always sense Bao Ni's emotional changes immediately and asked anxiously, "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing, just feeling sentimental. Time is a strange thing. I was only seventeen when I first came here, and now I'm a mother of two."

"Silly girl!"

Gu Ye looked at Bao Ni with a doting expression, giving his other comrades goosebumps. People at that time were still relatively reserved and rarely looked at each other with such intense gazes. In later years, this would be considered the image of a doting husband!

Having found a water source, the group patrolled the island again. Because there were no tall trees or dense forests, there were no large animals on the island; they only saw a few pheasants, which they caught.

Just as Bonnie said, the island has a considerable area suitable for planting, ample water resources, and most importantly, while the trees aren't very tall, they are quite sturdy. This means that unless a typhoon is particularly severe, it won't affect the crops.

Bonnie had some other plans in mind, namely, to plant more fruit trees. The apples from their province of Lu were quite famous in later generations, indicating that the climate and soil there were suitable for growing apple trees. Moreover, apples have a long shelf life, so planting more would allow them to be sold and generate income.

"Alright, let's go back. Don't worry about what happens next. I'll communicate with the logistics department. If we need any support, we'll contact them."

Gu Ye knew that Bao Ni was thinking of him; the military was a place where principles were followed and everyone had their own responsibilities.

"I know, you're such a worrywart."

The group rowed back, just as they had done on their way there.

Gu Ye and Bao Ni took the pheasants they were given to their parents' home to pick up their child and have a meal along the way. The rest of the pheasants were divided among the soldiers, and the unmarried soldiers went to Battalion Commander Duan's house for a meal to satisfy their cravings.

"Grandma, is there any food left?"

"You haven't had lunch yet? We left some in the pot for you, just in case you came back late and went hungry."

Grandma went to the kitchen to bring the food, and Gu Ye followed to help her. He was too embarrassed to let Grandma serve him.

Bonnie sat there motionless. She hadn't felt particularly hungry on the island, but as soon as she got off the boat, she felt like her stomach was sticking to her back.

After a delicious pheasant soup dinner, the family of four went home satisfied.

Bonnie left the child with Gu Ye and went to write the report herself, this time in much more detail. It mentioned the difficulties faced by some military families: malnutrition in children, and anemia in many military wives. It also addressed the hardships faced by military wives who didn't accompany their husbands to the military base…

Bonnie was so engrossed in writing that she didn't realize it was too late until Sanqi started crying. Sanqi had been drinking formula all day and was now craving breast milk.

Bonnie washed her hands and took Sanqi from her. The little guy eagerly nuzzled against her, his hands still clutching his mother's clothes.

Bao Ni sat down on the kang (a heated brick bed) with Sanqi in her arms and quickly gave him his food, otherwise he would cry again. Sanqi rarely cried; the few times he did cry were mostly related to breastfeeding.

After putting the child to sleep, Bonnie went into the study to supplement the report and asked Gu Ye to check it for any policy violations or inappropriate remarks. Bonnie wasn't very sensitive to the politics of the time; she was too superficial.

Gu Ye read it from beginning to end, changed a few sentences and some wording, but everything else was fine.

After carefully studying Bonnie's report, the logistics staff issued their approval.

Bonnie was appointed as the captain of the land reclamation team. The military spouses in their compound could choose whether or not to join the team on a voluntary basis. The land reclamation team was a subordinate unit of the logistics department, so there was no risk of them being caught red-handed or causing unnecessary trouble.

As the team leader, Bonnie established a series of rules and regulations. Their reclamation team also kept work points, but instead of everyone doing a lot or a little work, they were paid the same amount of work points. Instead, work was distributed according to labor, with more work resulting in more pay, which was considered fair.
