Chapter 113 Reclamation Team



There was another point Bonnie made clear: if their land reclamation team worked for a year and encountered severe weather resulting in a complete crop failure, they would have to bear the consequences themselves. No one would foot the bill for them, and the military couldn't afford it either.

When they first heard that a land reclamation team was going to be formed in the family compound, everyone was overjoyed. But after hearing Bonnie's regulations, they were all disappointed. Typhoons strike the island frequently, and if one typhoon hits, they might lose everything. It would be all for nothing.

Now every household has no surplus food. Clearing land requires physical exertion and can't be done by eating much grain. If there's no harvest in the fall, it'll be a loss. No way, absolutely no way. There are quite a few unemployed military wives in the family compound. The once noisy crowd has dwindled to almost nothing.

Bonnie was actually relieved. In the first year, she wasn't confident herself and just wanted to experiment; she didn't intend to bring too many people. However, she couldn't discriminate in treatment, so she put forward many conditions, which weren't arbitrary but determined based on the actual situation.

Now, the remaining ten or so people are just what Bonnie wants. If they succeed this year, they can talk about it again next year.

Bonnie's real goal was seaweed cultivation; clearing land was just a side effect.

"What I said before were all possible scenarios. We might work hard all year and end up with nothing. Or we might have a bountiful harvest in the fall. There's no certainty. I hope you all think it through carefully so you don't regret it later."

"We've thought it through, and we don't regret it."

The remaining sisters-in-law spoke in unison, their voices resounding with authority. "Strength is worthless; what does it matter if it's wasted?"

And so, the reclamation team was officially established.
