Bonnie left her base and returned to her parents' home, where she met Da Bao and Er Bao at the door.
"Hello, Auntie, isn't Liu Jiu here?"
"She didn't come. Liu Jiu is still in daycare, and Da Bao is on holiday?"
Because of the previous family division, Lin Yu and Song Xiaolan harbored resentment towards Bao Ni, feeling that everything had turned out this way because of her. However, the two were too timid to say anything directly, and instead complained incessantly at home.
Da Bao is already eight or nine years old and has developed his own ideas about many things. He feels that his parents are wrong, but when he talks to them, his parents call him an ingrate, saying he doesn't side with his parents but instead sides with outsiders. Da Bao doesn't understand why his aunt has become an outsider.
Erbao is a few months younger than Liujiu, and he doesn't understand many things. He only knows that his parents don't like his aunt anymore, and his aunt doesn't give him good food anymore. He also doesn't like his aunt or his great-grandfather anymore.
"Auntie, I'm taking Erbao home first. I'll play with Liujiu when she comes."
"Okay, go ahead. Auntie will bring Liu Jiu to play with you when she's not busy."
Looking at Da Bao and Er Bao entering the yard, Bao Ni felt helpless. What a mess they'd made of such good children. Er Bao didn't say a word to Bao Ni when he saw her, whereas before he would call her "Auntie" all the time.
"When you're done with your work, who will you talk to?"
"I ran into Da Bao at the entrance and we exchanged a few words."
"Sigh, I don't know what your older brother and his wife are thinking. They're wrong but don't know how to admit it, and they even blame their family. Now, they won't let the children come over."
Grandma Lin single-handedly raised her two great-grandsons, but now she has no credit for it and is the one who is at fault.
"Dabao is not bad. At least he knows right from wrong and has a good temperament."
Grandma may or may not have listened; if she doesn't want to leave, there's nothing anyone can do. Lin Baoni isn't an omnipotent goddess who can grant everyone's wishes; if she doesn't understand, there's nothing that can be done. "If you're compatible, stay together; if you're incompatible, part ways"—this applies not only to couples but also to friends and family.
After helping Grandma tidy up and washing a few clothes, Bonnie took Sanqi home.
With just over ten days until the Lunar New Year, Bonnie plans to train for another ten days until the wasteland is cleared, then she can prepare for the holiday. She also wants to go to the city to try and find some old connections to get some mutton or something.
Let Sanqi play inside. Baoni tidies up her house, steams the dinner for dinner, and prepares all the dishes so Gu Ye can come home early today. After she finishes tidying up, Liu Jiu will be back, and Gu Ye will be there soon too.
While she was lying on the kang (a heated brick bed), the children played games with their father.
"Give me a massage, I've been so busy these past few days, I'm a bit tired."
Bonnie lay on the kang (a heated brick bed), and Gu Ye massaged her back and waist repeatedly.
Sanqi saw his father pressing down on his mother's back and his sister pressing down on her arms, so he had to do something too.
The little guy tilted his head, thought for a moment, and then plopped down on his mother's lap, bouncing back and forth. His weight was just right for Bonnie.
The family of four had three members join in the massage, and Bonnie was overjoyed.
I fell asleep without even realizing it!
Gu Ye called Liu Jiu and San Qi over to sleep, telling them to stop pressing on their mother's buttons and to sleep together.
The next day, Gu Ye left after having breakfast. He was going to go out to sea to inspect the area before the New Year, and he expected to be back before the New Year if nothing unexpected happened.
Bonnie was already used to it. She packed him some dried fruit and dried vegetables she had made herself, as vegetables were a scarce commodity when going out to sea. Every year, Bonnie would gather various wild vegetables and dry them, just so she could bring some with her when she went out to sea.
Gu Ye looked at the adult and the two children, turned around, and walked away without looking back.
"Dad, come back safe and sound!"
Liu Jiu already understands a lot, and she hopes her father will return home safely.
"knew!"
Gu Ye's voice came from afar. Bao Ni blinked hard and took the child into the house.
"Six Nine, the daycare is closed starting today. Can you and Three Seven play with Madam together?"
"I know, I will take care of my younger brother."
"Thank you Liu Jiu, and thank you San Qi too."
Bonnie took her two children and some food to find her grandmother.
When Bonnie arrived at the beach, they were already practicing under Han Weidong's guidance.
"How's it going? You've been practicing for a few days now, have you made any progress?"
"They've made a lot of progress. Han and the others have a great training method, much better than us practicing blindly on our own."
Although Lin Hai had never sparred with Han Weidong and his group, they obeyed because Han's methods were effective.
"Come on, let's have a spar now and see your true skill level."
"good!"
Everyone was holding back their energy, waiting for Bonnie to give the order before they dared to make a move.
Lin Hai had always wanted to spar with Han Weidong, and as soon as Bao Ni finished speaking, he stepped forward. Han Weidong also got into a fighting stance and started moving seriously. Han Weidong had received formal military training, while Lin Hai was self-taught, his experience coming from fighting.
Han Weidong's punches and kicks were all very skillful, and it was clear that he wasn't using his full strength.
Lin Hai thought he was the only one on the island besides Bao Ni, but he didn't expect Han Weidong to be so powerful. He was no match for him at all. After half a day, he hadn't even scratched Han Weidong, while he himself had been kicked several times.
Seeing that it was about time, Han Weidong executed a left-handed kick, sending Lin Hai flying and landing on the beach.
The other people's fights were basically like women fighting, with grabbing and pulling, without any strategy.
"So, do you think you can handle it?"
"Sister Bonnie, why don't you have a match with Han Weidong and show him the true invincible master of our island!"
Lin Hai got up. If he couldn't do it, there were others who could. Just now, Han Weidong and his three companions had swept through the rest of the island, leaving no one behind.
