Chapter 309 Summer Vacation Begins

Bonnie worked for four days and then her summer vacation started!

The library has been renovated, and the classroom that Bonnie is in charge of has become a benchmark.

Bonnie is very satisfied with this job and likes it very much. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, she will probably work there until retirement.

Bonnie never imagined that she would have the opportunity to become an employee with a job.

Decades from now, who won't envy those who have retirement pensions? A simple monthly income of several thousand yuan allows them the freedom to plan their retirement life, making their lives far more carefree than those of young people.

Bonnie did the math and realized that she would retire and start receiving her pension the year Jiang Jiaojiao was born. How wonderful!

A radiant Bao Ni returned to the family compound and ran into Sister Lan, whom she hadn't left with.

"Oh, isn't this Comrade Lin?"

"You know her, but she looks unfamiliar." None of the people with Sister Lan recognized Bao Ni.

"Comrade Lin, we went into the school library together. He's very capable and has always been praised. He's a talented person."

Sister Lan made sarcastic remarks and looked at Bao Ni, feeling very wronged.

"Sister Lan, anyone who didn't know better would think you'd fallen into a vat of jealousy; the air is thick with sourness. Excellent people are excellent wherever they are; there's no way around it, they're just too capable."

"Sister Lan, you have to keep it up! If you don't do a good job, there's a long line of people waiting to take your place."

Bonnie followed her example, speaking in a slightly tactless manner.

"You, you, you shouldn't be so smug, just you wait and see."

Sister Lan left in a hurry after saying those words, and the others dispersed as well.

She's insane. She doesn't work hard herself, yet she blames others for working too hard. What kind of mentality is that? I'll stay away from her from now on.

Bonnie returned home. Liu Jiu and the others had finished their exams today and were also going on holiday.

That evening, Xuan Yi returned with Liu Jiu and the others.

"Second Aunt, Sanqi said she'll cook something delicious tonight, so I'm coming over for dinner."

"Okay, the kitchen is yours now." Bonnie was very relieved to see the children.

When I came home from school, I saw someone secretly selling small river shrimp. They were lively and jumping around. I bought some to make stir-fried river shrimp.

In the kitchen, there were also pork ribs, lotus root, and tofu that Bonnie had bought.

Sanqi knew what to do. He instructed Gu Xuanyi to prepare the lotus root, had his sister chop the ribs, and cleaned the river shrimp himself. He didn't trust anyone else to do it, fearing that they wouldn't clean it properly, which wouldn't do.

When Gu Ye returned, the food was almost ready, and the aroma filled the air as soon as he opened the door.

"What's this? It smells so good!"

"Sanqi is in charge of cooking? I really didn't know. I bought some pork ribs tonight, so I guess I'll stew them."

Bonnie left the battlefield and didn't go back in; she was quite at ease.

"Ta-da..."

When Bonnie heard the knocking, Gu Ye turned around and opened the door, where he saw the little one, Gu Xuanhao, standing outside.

"Second Uncle, Second Aunt, I've come to eat the delicious food that Brother Sanqi made." The little guy was very familiar with himself and went into the kitchen after smelling the aroma.

Bao Ni and Gu Ye were both amused. This little one had such a keen sense of smell; she could smell the aroma of their cooking even from across the courtyard.

"Ringling..."

Bonnie picked up the phone; it was Aunt Gu calling.

"Xuanhao is at your house, right? That kid, we were about to eat, and he asked where his second brother was. I told him he went to his uncle's house for dinner. He put down his chopsticks and went to put on his shoes, wanting to go too."

Sister-in-law Gu just needed to confirm that the brat had arrived; they hadn't eaten yet.

Bonnie exchanged a few words with her sister-in-law and then hung up. Sanqi called for dinner.

Four dishes and a soup: braised pork ribs, stir-fried river shrimp, cold lotus root slices, stir-fried wood ear mushrooms with eggs, and bok choy soup.

Bonnie tried it and found the stir-fried river shrimp delicious and flavorful, with a completely different texture from regular shrimp.

The Gu family are all hard-working people. There were four dishes, all in generous portions, and in the end, they ate everything clean.

"Alright, leave the rest to your dad and me. You two go have fun."

Bonnie doesn't cook, but she conscientiously cleans up the dishes; everyone works together.

Liu Jiu, San Qi, and the Gu Xuanyi brothers all ate quite a bit and went downstairs to digest their food. They had finished their exams and had no homework.

"Bonnie, you're free during the holidays, so why don't you go check out our house and see if there's any leak or repair needed? The courtyard house is a bit far, otherwise you could have the freedom to grow your own vegetables."

The courtyard house his mother left him was quite large, with a small garden, while his brother's house had a small pond.

“I actually had that plan in mind. I didn’t get a good look around last time. I can take the kids there tomorrow. It’s not far, just one bus transfer.”

Bonnie thought it was alright; back in the day, when clearing land for farming, you needed to row a boat.

“Gu Ye, the old courtyard is now vacant. I plan to tidy it up and rent it out again. This time, we'll rent by the room. Our courtyard can accommodate three families without feeling crowded.”

Bonnie thought that now that the educated youth were starting to return to the city, housing would become increasingly scarce. The courtyard houses were fine; not just anyone would dare to cause trouble in the neighborhood. Small courtyards, however, were a different story.

It was rented out before, and now it's vacant; someone will inevitably eye it. Renting it out means you can collect rent, the house will have people living in it, and it won't fall into disrepair.

Gu Ye had no objections; he listened to his wife.

The next day, Bonnie took Liu Jiu, San Qi, and the Gu brothers, and they went to the courtyard house by car.

"Come in, everyone. We're not familiar with this area, so don't wander around on your own, especially Sanqi and Xuanhao. If you run into some kidnappers, you won't be able to get home."

Bonnie closed the door.

Bonnie didn't know anything about courtyard houses. As soon as she entered, she saw what looked like a screen wall, which was beautifully carved. That was the only adjective she could use.

Further in is a courtyard, and beyond that is a small garden, with the rear building facing away from it.

Bonnie opened all the doors to let in some fresh air and checked the room again; there were no signs of leaks in the roof.
