Over the next two days, Xu Meifeng went to the department store again. While there were people buying clothes, she carefully noted down the styles of several garments she saw.
While Xu Meifeng was busy running to the department store, Gu Ye and his team could finally rest.
"Bonnie, I'm home!"
That evening, just a few minutes after Bonnie got off work and entered her house, Gu Ye arrived home.
"Close the door quickly, it's getting colder and colder. It's already November, is it going to snow?"
Bonnie had just put the steamed buns into the pot and washed the vegetables when Gu Ye came back.
"Can you rest for a few more days this time? You look thinner."
Gu Ye stroked his stubble. They had been training in the field for a while, going quite far and under more difficult conditions.
"I can rest for two days, but I already miss my big bed at home?"
"All you miss is the big bed, nothing else?"
Bonnie looked at Gu Ye with a half-smile, her meaning all too clear.
"Missing the big bed is an excuse, missing my wife is the truth."
Gu Ye wanted to kiss his wife, but then he remembered that he was covered in dust and had a stubble beard, so he decided to tidy himself up first.
Bonnie found Gu Ye a change of clothes and took out sea cucumber and dried abalone, preparing for an extra meal that evening.
A while ago, her mother sent over a lot of dried seafood, and Bonnie's cupboard is full again.
Sister-in-law Gu has been in the south for a while now, and she's probably gotten used to the local environment. She's also sent back some local specialties, mostly dried fruits and candied fruits.
Because of this, when Xuan Yi went to see his grandmother, his aunt subtly inquired about how many things Gu Da Sao had sent back to Lin Bao Ni's family.
Xuan Yi answered very frankly, "Auntie, my brother and I eat and drink at my second uncle's house, so isn't it normal for my mom to send more things?"
My second aunt just sent a lot of things to my mom a couple of days ago. What did my eldest aunt send?
Xuan Yi's words left Sister-in-law Shen speechless, and she didn't send anything.
Gu Xuanyi's maternal grandmother disapproved of her eldest son's pettiness, stating that the gifts were a filial offering from her daughter to her and her husband, and that it was more than enough.
The implication is that you, as the eldest sister-in-law, want to get in without going out? There's no such thing as a free lunch.
Gu Xuanyi ignored his aunt and didn't eat at his maternal grandmother's house; he went straight back to his second aunt's house.
After I got home, I wrote a letter to tell his mother about it.
In the tenement building over there, at Xu Meifeng's home, her husband Fang Dali had also returned.
Xu Meifeng told him everything that had happened during this period.
"How could you be so stupid? Those old women bullied you, why didn't you tell me? I, Fang Dali, am here to protect my country. I can't let others bully my wife and children."
From now on, if anything happens, be sure to tell me. Don't overthink it. If I'm not capable, I won't be able to improve much no matter what.
Fang Dali felt sorry for his silly wife. She was such a strong-willed person, and because of marrying him, she had to bear too much.
Meifeng used to be so confident and beautiful. If she hadn't neglected her family, she wouldn't have fallen and injured herself while carrying her sick child to the doctor in the dark.
She was so focused on her child at the time that by the time the child was out of danger, she had been left with leg problems.
Because of her leg condition, Meifeng felt somewhat inferior and lacked the confidence she used to have when speaking and acting.
“Meifeng, don’t pay attention to those people anymore. You injured your leg because of the child. No one has the right to laugh at you. If anyone bullies you again, you must tell me, and I’ll go find her man and teach him a lesson.”
"I understand now. I've thought it all through and I won't care what others think anymore." Xu Meifeng truly didn't care anymore; she wanted to make money.
"Dali, what do you think of what Sister-in-law Bonnie said? I want to do it."
Fang Dali listened to Mei Feng talk a lot about Commander Gu's sister-in-law and was sincerely grateful.
"Meifeng, you are such a good tailor. Back in our hometown, everyone said your clothes were beautiful. They can be just as good here."
"And Commander Gu's sister-in-law will help you, so don't worry, just go for it."
Fang Dali didn't really understand these things, but he saw a light in Mei Feng's eyes. It was something she was good at, and he felt she could do it well.
With Fang Dali's support, Xu Meifeng felt even more confident.
The next day was a day off, and Gu Ye knew that Bao Ni was going to accompany Fang Dali's wife to the department store.
"Wife, how are you so outstanding? You can make a good life anywhere and help others."
"Dad, you should say that behind people's backs. Didn't you see my brother blushing?"
Gu Ye was just enjoying a sweet moment with his wife when Sanqi's words ruined the atmosphere.
Sanqi and Xuanyi had just entered the kitchen when they heard these sentimental words. Sanqi was used to it, but Xuanyi felt a little embarrassed.
"Why are you blushing? Learn from this, so you can find a wife in the future."
Gu Ye was thick-skinned and didn't care. He even took the opportunity to teach the two little boys a lesson.
"Alright, stop talking nonsense with the child. Hurry up and get ready to eat, I have something to do later."
Liu Jiu, after you finish eating, go to the village and buy a chicken. I told you before, buy more when it's winter and the outside is still frozen solid.
"Can I still find that store where I bought autumn vegetables?"
Bonnie asked Liu Jiu, "Buy something nice to nourish Gu Ze."
"Mom, I know the way. Let's go together."
"Alright, wear more clothes, it's cold outside. I'm going to Aunt Wei Hong's place today to see if I can buy some yarn to knit sweaters for you."
Bonnie had it all planned out: she would get each of the children a set of sweaters and trousers.
"Mom, can you knit a sweater?"
Sanqi is so quick-witted, always speaking the truth.
Bonnie rolled her eyes at Sanqi. "I can't knit, but I still have you, don't I?"
