For a whole month, Bonnie bought more than ten chickens, ducks, and geese, and she never stopped buying big bones. Everyone in Dayang Village knew that someone in Bonnie's family was injured, and they made her the first person to buy big bones.
When it was time for the follow-up appointment, Bonnie took leave and went to the hospital with Gu Xuanyi.
"Wow, you've gained quite a bit of weight in the past month, at least ten pounds, right?"
The doctor looked at Gu Xuanyi, who had clearly gained weight and seemed to have grown taller. He was clearly being well taken care of, and his face was radiant.
"No, I only gained nine pounds."
The fourteen-year-old boy is starting to pay attention to his appearance and doesn't want to be too fat.
"Okay, looks like you've been eating well this past month."
“It’s pretty good. My second aunt makes me bone broth every day, and I’ve eaten more than ten chickens.”
Gu Xuanyi didn't want his second aunt to be misunderstood by others, so he took great care of her.
"Okay, quiet down, let the doctor examine you properly and see how the recovery is going?"
Bonnie knew what the child was thinking. Because of his aunt's thoughtless remarks, the child was traumatized and was always afraid that she would be misunderstood.
Bao doesn't care what others say. They can't shut their mouths. As long as it doesn't involve bottom lines or political issues, she doesn't care what they say.
After a thorough examination and X-ray, the doctor confirmed that the bone had healed.
"The recovery is going well, and you can walk normally now. However, you still can't do strenuous exercise or bump into anything. Although the wound has healed, it is still quite fragile."
The doctor gave some instructions, and Gu Xuanyi was a little disappointed. He wanted to exercise with Liu Jiu and was eager to lose the nine pounds he had gained.
"Doctor, when can I start exercising?"
"It'll be at least two months from now. What, are you in a hurry?"
Bonnie patted him on the shoulder and said, "What's the big deal about those few pounds? You can start exercising again once your leg is completely healed."
The doctor then realized that the child was upset about being overweight. Kids these days are so hard to understand. Back then, they were always hungry; they didn't even know the concept of dieting.
"Your height and weight are within the standard range, so there is no need to lose weight specifically; it won't do your health any good."
The doctor looked at the energetic young man in front of him and concluded that he didn't need to lose weight.
Bonnie thanked the doctor and took Xuanyi home.
"Second Aunt, I've gone to school. If I go back now, I can still attend one class, and it won't interfere with my afternoon classes."
Gu Xuanyi was quite anxious about the lessons he had missed.
“Okay, I’m going back to work too. You don’t need to use your crutches anymore, but you still need to be careful. Don’t play around with your classmates, or it will be troublesome if you run into them again.”
"I understand, Second Aunt, I don't want to really become like Tieguai Li."
The two got off the bus chatting and laughing, and walked towards the school.
When his classmates saw that Gu Xuanyi no longer needed crutches, they all congratulated him on his recovery.
Liu Jiu touched her hair, which had grown quite a bit longer, and was happy. Her mother could finally relax, and Gu Xuanyi wouldn't need anyone to help him to the toilet anymore.
It was quite unexpected to bring up Liu Jiu's hair.
One day, Liu Jiu told her mother that she wanted to grow her hair. Bao Ni was stunned and it took her a while to realize that Liu Jiu had said it, not San Qi.
"Why did you suddenly change your mind? Didn't you say long hair was troublesome?"
From childhood to adulthood, except for two years when she was too young to understand and wore a small topknot, Liu Jiu always had a buzz cut.
"I'll most likely take the military academy entrance exam, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, my hair will be short by then. I'm thinking of taking advantage of these two years to experience the feeling of having long, flowing hair."
Because of her exceptional fighting skills, Liu Jiu was admired by all the girls in her class, who took the initiative to approach her.
Seeing their various braids, Liu Jiu was also tempted. She also wanted to experience the feeling of her long hair flying in the wind. They said it was especially nice.
"Sister, if you want to experience the beauty of long, flowing hair, you not only need to grow your hair long, but you also need to make your face whiter, wear flowing long dresses, and not walk like you're marching in formation. Otherwise, just having long hair won't do you any good!"
Sanqi stood to the side, chattering on and on, oblivious to Liujiu's dark expression and the cracking of her knuckles. By the time Sanqi belatedly realized something was wrong, it was too late; she was already getting a loving scolding from her sister.
"I knew it! Sanqi, your mouth was bound to get you into trouble sooner or later!"
Gu Xuanyi watched in astonishment. Liu Jiu completely overwhelmed San Qi with his strength, leaving San Qi with no chance to fight back.
Bonnie doesn't care about the lawsuit between the two; let them handle it themselves.
Her daughter, Liu Jiu, is going to grow her hair long. Gu Ye would be overjoyed if he knew. He has always wanted to see his daughter braid her hair, wear a dress, and look beautiful. Now, he has the chance.
And so, Liu Jiu stopped cutting her hair short. Her hair was already covering her ears, but Liu Jiu herself wasn't used to it and always wanted to pull it down.
Gu Ye was always busy, and he couldn't come home for ten days or half a month at a time. Bao Ni couldn't find out what he was busy with, but every time they met, she would remind him to eat on time and take care of his health, because that was her responsibility.
Before they knew it, winter break had begun, and Liu Jiu and her friends resumed their routine of going to Teacher Zhai's house to learn English.
Bonnie is fine; she's still researching her story about menstrual hygiene. This isn't like writing a novel, which requires careful consideration to avoid any deviations that could have negative consequences.
Surprisingly, Gu Ye actually came back; the timing was almost unbelievable.
Why are you back at this time?
"Come back and rest a bit, I have to go back to the unit tonight. Honey, did you miss me?"
Bonnie looked outside. It was a little past nine in the morning, not nine at night. Something seemed off about her brother.
