"Sister-in-law, over here."
Bonnie waved outside the train station, where a large group of people carrying bags and packages were gathered—it was quite a sight.
"Bonnie, it's been so long since I've seen you. You haven't changed much; your face is still so smooth."
Sister-in-law Gu was quite impressed. Although Bao Ni was a few years younger than her, she really looked younger. Her round face naturally made her look younger, and she didn't have to worry about anything, whether at home or outside.
"Perhaps too much aloe vera was used in Sanqi. Liu Jiu said that it was aloe vera essence, which absorbs the essence of the sun and moon."
"Ha ha……"
Sister-in-law Gu was amused; she had witnessed the interactions between Liu Jiu and San Qi during her winter break. And Mu Nanfang, what a fine kid.
Her son, Xuanyu, is five or six years older than Liujiu, and he still doesn't have a boyfriend. It's worrying.
"Let's go, I found a delivery truck to take the stuff back, otherwise it's not easy to squeeze onto the bus."
"Okay, I'll do as you say."
Sister-in-law Gu was really tired; taking a long bus ride is really exhausting.
"Come on, make sure you fasten your coats tight, it won't be warm in the convertible later."
We can't get in touch with Gu Ye and the others again, otherwise we could have hitched a ride in a jeep.
"Mom, this is a tractor. I thought it was a real convertible car."
“It’s good enough that you have a tractor. I can’t get in touch with your dad. Where am I supposed to get you a convertible truck?”
Bonnie took the lead in putting the things into the truck bed, and then climbed up herself. Sister-in-law Gu was helped up by Xuan Yi, while Xuan Yu had already gone to work early.
Gu Xuanhao is small, but quite agile; he climbed up on his own.
"Master, let's go to the military compound."
"chug……"
The driver cranked the handlebars, started the tractor, and a plume of black smoke billowed from the chimney as the vehicle began to move.
It was windy in the car, and no one spoke. Mu Nanfang stood in front of Liu Jiu.
After everything was moved in, people weren't cold anymore.
"Sister-in-law, put the things in this side room first. After Sister Xiang leaves, this room will be empty."
"Okay, let's leave it for now. I need to rest for a couple of days before packing. I can't take it anymore. I'm getting old, and I really feel my strength declining. I won't be leaving again. Even if your older brother gets transferred again, I won't go."
Sister-in-law Gu was truly exhausted. She had gone through several ups and downs in the past few years. She really couldn't take it anymore; it had taken her a long time to adapt to the climate and food in the south.
"My older brother probably won't be transferred out of Beijing again, right?"
Bonnie did the math and realized that Brother Gu was almost fifty. If he accumulated experience in Beijing for a few more years, he might be able to get into the central government.
"I hope so, but I really can't afford any more trouble. Besides, the kids are all grown up, Xuanyu is already 24 and thinking about marriage. My parents aren't young either, so I have to take care of them no matter what."
Although Sister-in-law Gu's parents are not easy to deal with, they haven't held her back over the years, so they've come to their senses.
"That's true. My parents should be arriving around June, so I won't worry. Otherwise, Sanqi will be starting high school soon, and I won't be able to leave home, so I'll be worried about them."
"Yeah, we have elderly parents to care for and young children to raise, what can we do? Bonnie, when your parents come here, won't your brother and sister-in-law have any ideas?"
Sister-in-law Gu knew that in many places, elderly people wouldn't stay at their daughters' homes for extended periods. Her son was sometimes reluctant, worried about gossip.
“My parents have already made up their minds. They can have their opinions, but they’ll have to bear with it. They’re separating from the family and living their own lives. My parents are clear-headed and won’t care about those gossips.”
Bonnie knows her parents well; they're not easily swayed and have their own ideas.
"That's good, that puts your mind at ease. Your uncle and aunt are kind-hearted and genuinely care about you. Gu Ye also has a deep relationship with them. Your good days are here!"
“When we were on the island, we often went back to my parents’ home to eat and drink for free. Gu Ye himself called my parents several times, urging them to come over.”
Sister-in-law Gu was envious. Her parents loved her too, but when it mattered, they always put their son and grandson first. Gu Ze's relationship with her parents and brothers was so-so, and the same went for their children.
She couldn't care less about her brothers; they were all adults, grandfathers now. She would fulfill her responsibilities as a daughter to her parents. Buying them food and drinks, taking care of them was no problem, but she couldn't interfere with Gu Ze's work.
"Liu Jiu, you guys go to the public bathhouse in the compound to take a shower. There's not enough hot water at home, so let your aunt wash up at home. After you're done, we'll go to your great-uncle's for dinner. Nanfang, go home and visit your parents first. They must be worried about you after you've been gone for so long."
"Okay, Aunt Gu. I'll go back now and come back tomorrow."
Mu Nanfang picked up his luggage, which included clothes and local specialties he had brought back.
"Southern region, take some of this back with you too."
Liu Jiu took some fruit out of her bag; there were many of them, so they brought back a lot.
"Don't take too much, I don't even know how many people are at home."
“We brought back a lot, so it won’t last long. Let’s share it and have a taste of the freshness.”
Liu Jiu handed the items to Mu Nanfang, and the two became closer.
"Aunt, Aunt, I'm going back now. See you tomorrow."
Mu Nanfang left with his things, while Liu Jiu and the others took their toiletries to the bathhouse.
"Baoni, Liu Jiu's boyfriend is really great. He's good-looking, has a lot of ideas, a good personality, and most importantly, he's really good to Liu Jiu."
I've always thought Liu Jiu was like a boy, capable of doing everything very well. But when the two of them are together, Liu Jiu is clearly the one being taken care of. Even though they're not doing anything, it's just comfortable to watch them together.
