July passed, and a small typhoon swept across the island. It didn't have much of an impact, but the educated youth were terrified. They had never seen anything like it before. The wind and rain were so fierce that the doors and windows rattled loudly!
Bonnie's belly is quite big now, and she's been very active lately. I wonder if she's had enough of staying at home and is eager to come out.
In mid-August, Bao Ni's mother had already moved into the family compound. She was worried that Bao Ni would go into labor early, and with Gu Ye not at home, she was uneasy.
These past few days, Zhao Yuan has been coming several times a day, just in case Bao Ni goes into labor, so she can help keep an eye on Liu Jiu.
Gu Ye has been anxious these past few days. His work means he can't be with his wife. Every day after finishing his work at the team, he's eager to go home and see her. The sea is also not calm this season, and there are always those who are not giving up and will find an opportunity to provoke him.
Everyone was anxious, but Bonnie didn't feel anything. Aside from the baby being restless inside her, she didn't feel anything. She'd already given birth to one, so she had experience. Besides, she felt this baby would come out quickly too, and she was eager for it to be born.
“Bonnie…”
"Um?"
"Bonnie, um, I have to go away for a few days. Take care of yourself. I..."
Gu Ye hesitated, unable to speak. Bao Ni was about to give birth, but he was about to go out to sea.
"Take care of yourself and don't worry about me. Your mother is here. Besides, I have experience. Maybe by the time you come back, the baby will already be born."
Bonnie remembered the time he was sick and Old Jiang wanted to take him away. Before leaving, he hesitated and kept apologizing to his mother. His mother straightened her not-so-strong body and told Old Jiang that she was the reincarnation of Popeye, and that he could go without worry.
"I'm sorry, I..."
"Commander, it's time."
"Hurry up and don't be late. Be careful, we'll wait for you to come back."
Gu Ye left without looking back, afraid that he would shed tears.
Bonnie watched Gu Ye leave, then straightened her pregnant belly. It was alright, nothing was a big deal.
On the third day after Gu Ye left, Bao Ni went into labor. Fortunately, it was daytime, so Bao Ni's mother called for help from Aunt Huang next door. The two of them supported Bao Ni together, while Liu Jiu followed behind carrying the baby's necessities. At this moment, it was fortunate that Liu Jiu had inherited Bao Ni's strength; not only did her mother not have to worry, but she could also help.
When they arrived at the clinic, Aunt Huang helped call the doctor, and together they helped Bonnie into the ward. The doctor examined her and found that she was already several centimeters dilated and could go to the delivery room.
Bonnie was taken into the delivery room again. Liu Jiu waited outside with her grandmother. Huang's wife went home to cook brown sugar eggs for Bonnie.
"Sister-in-law Huang, why is no one at Bao Ni's house?"
"Zhao Yuan, Bonnie has gone into labor. I just got back from the hospital. I'll make some brown sugar eggs and take them to Bonnie."
"It started today, I'd better go check it out. Sister Huang, I'm going now."
Zhao Yuan never expected that arriving a little late today would happen so coincidentally.
Fortunately, Bai Chaoyang is off today, and the children are all at home, so she can help out.
Zhao Yuan ran to the clinic, and as soon as she reached the delivery room, she heard loud crying coming from inside; the baby had been born.
"Auntie, is that Bonnie?"
"Yes, she was the only one in the delivery room."
Zhao Yuan knew that Bao Ni's delivery was quick when she was 69, but she didn't expect this one to be even faster. Bao Ni always said the baby was in a hurry to come out, and it turns out it really was; the whole thing took less than an hour. Now, the other wives are going to be envious again.
"Lin Baoni's family, mother and child are safe and sound."
The nurse pushed open the door, carrying a pink swaddle blanket, which was from when she was six or nine months old.
How is my daughter?
Bao Ni's mother took the child and quickly asked her daughter a few questions.
"It's okay, I'm in good spirits, I'll be out in a bit after I'm done cleaning up."
The nurse went in again, and Bonnie's mom patted the little one down; it was quite heavy!
"Grandma, let me see, is it a little brother or a little sister?"
Liu Jiu was anxious; she wanted to see the baby.
"Come here, Liu Jiu, look, this is your younger brother."
Liu Jiu looked at him. The child had his eyes closed, his face was a little red, and he had no eyebrows. Something looked strange about him. It's alright, this is her younger brother. With her watching over him, no one will dare to bully him.
A moment later, Bonnie was wheeled out, and Zhao Yuan and Bonnie's mother rushed forward, asking, "How are you? Does it hurt?"
"Fortunately, the little guy was in a hurry. Before I even realized what was happening, he came out."
Bonnie was in good spirits and was wheeled into the ward, where the baby was placed on the bed. The little one was sleeping soundly, showing no signs of waking up.
"This child is quite big, weighing seven pounds and three ounces. The doctor said he's tall but not too fat, otherwise he would have suffered a lot."
Bao Ni's mother was talking to Zhao Yuan next to her, and she felt at ease knowing that this made her feel more at ease.
"That's right, with Bonnie's speed, the wives in the family compound are going to be jealous again."
"Who's going to start a fight over jealousy?"
Sister Huang came in carrying a lunchbox, followed by another sister-in-law, Sister Cai, the wife of Political Commissar Gu Ye.
"Sister-in-law is here, thank you for your hard work!"
"What's so hard about it? With the men away, we women have to take care of each other. Eat some eggs, I made quite a lot. Auntie can have a few too, and so can Liu Jiu."
Aunt Huang didn't feel bad at all. Bao Ni loved going up mountains and down to the sea. Whenever she got something delicious, she would send some to Bao Ni's child. Aunt Huang remembered this kindness.
Bonnie was really hungry. She took the lunchbox and ate several eggs and drank several mouthfuls of soup.
"I can't eat anymore."
Bonnie handed the lunchbox to her mother, then spoke a few words to Sister-in-law Cai, asking Zhao Yuan to take Liu Jiu to her house for the night, as she could be discharged from the hospital the next day.
"Alright, you should get some sleep. Giving birth takes a lot of energy."
