Chapter 84 High School Life Begins

"I'd say I'm in the twenties or thirties." Chen Xihua knew her score; although she was tenth in Gaoyang County, her ranking in Jiang City would definitely be quite low.

However, these are minor matters for now. She will study diligently in her first and second years of high school to consolidate her high school knowledge. She will not be careless in the college entrance examination.

After lunch, Chen Xihua and the other person parted ways and went back to their dormitory to rest, as there would be a freshman class meeting in the afternoon.

At 3:30 p.m., students from each class gathered for a class meeting to distribute new textbooks and introduce themselves to each other.

Chen Xihua's class is Grade 1 (25). The homeroom teacher is a female teacher in her forties, surnamed Huang, who teaches Chinese.

"Alright, now that the textbooks have been distributed, those whose names I call, please stand up and introduce yourselves to everyone. I won't go into individual self-introductions." Teacher Huang stood on the podium, holding the student roster, and began calling roll.

"Gao Junyue, Huang Husheng, Chen Liang..."

Chen Xihua, sitting in the second-to-last seat of the first group, was quite happy. Unlike in college, when she would get lively and give long introductions that would take up most of the day, now the teacher just called on everyone, which saved her a lot of trouble.

"That's Teacher Gao's daughter. She scored 738 points on the high school entrance exam, just ten points short of a perfect score. That's amazing."

Chen Xihua heard some classmates whispering behind her. In fact, she had also looked up when Teacher Huang called the first name.

Gao Junyue sat in the second seat in the middle. She was about 1.55 meters tall. From behind, she looked like a very refined girl with long hair.

"Chen Xihua." Suddenly hearing Teacher Huang call her name, Chen Xihua, though not nervous, instinctively stood up.

"Wow, this girl is so pretty, but she's also so tall, probably around 1.6 meters, about the same height as our male classmates." It was a boy's voice.

"Yes, her face is really pretty, she looks a bit like a female celebrity in a TV drama." - a girl's voice.

"Are you Chen Xihua? My name is Cai Shengnan, from Baishui County. How old are you? You're this tall too. I'm sixteen years old, and I'm 1.61 meters tall." Chen Xihua had just sat down when she heard the girl sitting next to her speaking softly. Her voice was somewhat androgynous, and she had a very cheerful personality. "I was the last one to get into this key middle school. I was even planning to join the army, but my dad insisted that I come to high school. I wish I had scored one point less on the middle school entrance exam."

Chen Xihua found it somewhat amusing. She had actually taken a look at her deskmate, who had been sitting quietly the whole time, leading her to assume she was rather introverted. Therefore, she hadn't initiated conversation with her deskmate. She hadn't expected her to be like this; it was quite nice that they were deskmates.

Both of them chose to sit in the back seats. She had just been guessing her deskmate's height, but now she said it herself. Moreover, Cai Shengnan looked quite robust, with a healthy, dark complexion. She seemed like someone who had exercised since childhood.

"Hello, Cai. I'm fifteen years old and from Gaoyang County," Chen Xihua said with a friendly smile, introducing herself in a low voice.

She's actually two months away from turning fourteen; she's referring to her age in the traditional Chinese way of counting age.

In the south, many parents calculate their children's age by year. For example, a child born on December 31st is considered two years old on January 1st of the following year.

Chen Xihua was being a bit arrogant this time. Being young is great. In her previous life, she insisted on being twenty-eight even though she was still half a minute away from her twenty-ninth birthday.

The class meeting ended at 5:30, and everyone dispersed. It was the first night, and we didn't have to go back to the classroom to study. Classes officially started the next morning.

Chen Xihua didn't leave; she waited for her fourth sister at her seat. The two sisters had arranged to have dinner together in the cafeteria that evening. Mainly, Chen Xihua was worried that her fifth sister wouldn't be used to it and wanted to help her out.

Indeed, Chen Xihua never boarded at school during her middle school years. In her previous life, she only boarded at school during her university years. Before high school, she lived at home, and her family had a driver to take her to and from school.

However, having experienced university dormitory life, Chen Xihua feels okay now. It's just a bit noisy with so many people; in a dorm with twelve people, once everyone is back, it's a constant chatter.

When Chen Xihua and her sister entered the canteen, she heard some classmates talking about her fourth sister.

"Isn't that our school's top female student? The girl next to her is so pretty, is she her younger sister?"

"They look like sisters, and both are very beautiful."

"That younger sister is prettier."

"What's the use of being pretty? I wonder if this girl is good at her studies. If she's at the bottom of the class, then she's really pretty."

"Yeah, does anyone have a younger brother or sister who's in the first year of high school, so they can beat the female academic genius's sister?"

"..."

Meanwhile, at Teacher Gao's home, since both Teacher Gao and his wife are teachers, they were still at school dealing with the return of new students. Only the two siblings, Gao Yang and Gao Junyue, were at home.

"Brother, I was in the same class as Chen Xihua, the girl who won first place in your English competition. Her overall score was slightly above average."

"My grades are better than hers. When the final exams come, I'm sure I can surpass her by a wide margin and help you beat her." Gao Junyue excitedly told her brother Gao Yang as soon as she got home.

This afternoon, she specifically checked Chen Xihua's grades in each subject. None of them were particularly outstanding, but they were quite balanced. Moreover, her English score was only 92, while she herself scored 98. Chen Xihua's only advantage was her spoken English.

"No need, Xiaoyue, just focus on your studies and don't compare yourself to her. She's Chen Xiuhua's sister, so her grades shouldn't be too bad. Besides, she did very well in English in the competition in Haishi, but I don't know why her high school entrance exam results weren't outstanding." Gao Yang hurriedly stopped his sister, his voice sounding like he was going through puberty, a hoarse, raspy voice.

"I don't care, I'm going to compete with her. I'll study hard for exams from now on and I'll always beat Chen Xihua. Isn't Chen Xiuhua always number one? Brother, your sister here will help you beat her sister." Gao Junyue was full of confidence.

"Fine, whatever you want." Gao Yang was a little helpless, knowing that his younger sister was a bit strong-willed. In fact, he had thought the same way back then.

However, Chen Xiuhua's grades were incredibly consistent; she was always 20 points ahead of Ning Wenfeng from the science class in every exam. Moreover, high school studies are much more difficult than junior high, but Chen managed to maintain such high scores.

Chen Xihua, who was eating a meal of one meat dish and one vegetable dish in the canteen, was unaware that someone was about to challenge her.

Even if she knew, she wouldn't care, and she wouldn't need to concern herself with it. Chen Xihua could understand perfectly well that at this stage, especially in top schools, students were all about grades, and some students would be bothered by a difference of 0.5 points.

The next day, at 6:10 a.m., the school's wake-up bell rang, and Chen Xihua's high school life officially began.

...

Beijing, military family compound, Lu family.

"Seventh Brother, it's been over a year since you were discharged from the army. Are you really going to go into business? You're often away from Beijing, and now that you're back, you're busy with that Jingxing Company of yours every day. Even if you can't be a soldier, you could consider politics or something else."

Today is the Lu family reunion. The whole family is back. Old Master Lu looks at his youngest son and really has no way to deal with him.

He himself has three sons and one daughter, his second brother has two sons and one daughter, and the other six members of his children's generation are either in the military, in politics, or in public institutions.

This seventh son is only one year older than his grandson Shen Changxing. From a young age, the whole family doted on him, and he was raised by Grandpa Lu's own father.

The youngest son was rather stubborn and inflexible, and after his father's death, no one could persuade him anymore. Thinking of this, Old Master Lu felt somewhat helpless.

“Yes, Father, I have my own plans. Is there anything wrong with doing business?” At twenty-three, Master Lu was already mature beyond his years, answering his father with a serious expression.

Old Master Lu waved his hand: "Alright, you can go now."
