"I'm not suing anymore!" she screamed, her voice urgent and disordered. "I'm not suing you anymore, okay? Brother Yifei, let's just let this go and move on!"
The gazes of everyone in the interrogation room changed; even the two police officers taking statements exchanged a knowing look.
"never mind?"
Gu's mother, who had been silent all along, sneered. She stood up, leaning on the table, and stared coldly at Meng Zihan.
"You think you can just sue me like that, and then just let it go like that? What about my son's reputation? Are you going to let me smear it like this?"
"We must see the surveillance footage! If you're making a false accusation, this isn't as simple as whether you sue or not!"
A police officer standing nearby spoke up at the opportune moment, saying sternly, "If it is found that what Ye Linchen and Gu Jingran said is true, your actions constitute making a false police report, which is a deliberate disruption of social order, and you will bear legal responsibility."
Gu Yifei only said two words throughout: "Go check, I want to see."
Without further hesitation, the police immediately assigned a young officer to accompany the restaurant staff to retrieve the video footage.
Watching the policeman stride out of the interrogation room, Meng Zihan felt her legs go weak and she could barely stand.
Only one thought was swirling wildly in her mind.
What if, what if that camera is broken?
Or maybe the angle was bad and you didn't get a shot at all?
Unfortunately, her hopes were dashed.
Not long after, the police returned, although the surveillance footage they brought back was black and white with static, and the faces of the people were somewhat blurry.
But it clearly recorded everything that happened at the restaurant entrance.
The most lethal frame is when Ye Linchen and Meng Zihan argue for a few words and then turn to leave. Meng Zihan slumps to the ground and then suddenly reaches out and violently tears at her collar and clothes.
The interrogation room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
All the lies and pretenses were torn to shreds in the face of this silent scene.
Meng Zihan's lips trembled and opened and closed a few times, but she couldn't utter a single word.
Her knees buckled, and with a thud, she knelt before Gu Yifei, clutching his trouser leg tightly with both hands, crying out, "Brother Yifei, I was wrong! It's because I love you so much, I can't live without you!"
She sobbed uncontrollably, saying sadly, "Have you really forgotten the happy times we had together? I can't forget them! I want us to be together again, to be as happy as we were before. Is there anything wrong with that?"
"Brother Yifei, didn't you say I'm your treasure, and you'd protect me with your life?"
Why did you do this to me?
Gu Yifei took a step back, glaring angrily at her: "When did I ever say such a thing? Even now, you're still lying!"
Meng Zihan really wanted to tell him that it was what you said to me when we were together in our previous life.
But no one would believe that; they would only think she was lying.
Meng Zihan realized the situation and immediately changed her story.
Through her teary eyes, she looked at Gu Yifei and said, "Brother Yifei, I was bewitched and made a mistake. Please forgive me this time, just this once, okay?"
