Chapter 356 A Twist of Fate

Meng Zihan was startled when she saw Ye Linchen return.

That newly established, self-assured composure instantly cracked.

Could it be that Ye Linchen really found witnesses in such a short time?

But the panic lasted only a very short moment, and she immediately forced herself to calm down.

She rolled her eyes rapidly, going over yesterday's events in her mind again.

impossible!

Absolutely impossible!

She looked around carefully before tearing at her collar.

After confirming that no one was around, she quickly tore open her collar and screamed at the top of her lungs.

Eyewitnesses simply don't exist.

Moreover, Ye Linchen was all alone; no one was with him.

Thinking of this, Meng Zihan felt relieved.

She straightened her back again and continued to put on that wronged, pitiful look.

She looked at Ye Linchen, her voice trembling with tears, every word accusing him.

"Cousin, how could you say that?"

What evidence do you have?

"We're family! Are you really going to sacrifice me to help outsiders?"

Ye Linchen ignored her cries and only glanced at her out of the corner of his eye.

“I have evidence.”

Ye Linchen looked at the police.

The sound wasn't loud, but it reached the ears of everyone present clearly.

"Evidence that cannot be fabricated is absolutely impossible."

After returning home last night, Ye Linchen received a message from Gu Jingran.

The message was simple, just a few words: "Don't worry, I can handle it."

Although he spoke with certainty, Ye Linchen felt uncertain.

She lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, barely sleeping all night, her mind replaying the incident.

If this really happens as Meng Zihan planned, and no one around saw it, does that mean Gu Yifei will be unfairly blamed?

No, she absolutely cannot let that happen!

We cannot allow Meng Zihan's despicable tactics to succeed time and time again.

She had to come up with a foolproof plan, a way to completely expose the lie.

Suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind.

She recalled several recent newspaper reports that, as the provincial capital, many commercial establishments in Jiangcheng had begun installing a system called "surveillance" for safety and standardization.

The "Red Bean Restaurant" is not small in scale, and its decor is considered quite impressive in Jiangcheng.

To prevent customers from not paying for meals or other disputes, such places are very likely to have installed surveillance cameras.

Even if we assume there isn't a restaurant, the most impressive hotel in Jiangcheng, the "Times Hotel," is right across the street.

For security reasons, large hotels catering to foreign guests will almost always have security cameras installed at their entrances.

Perhaps the hotel's security cameras could have captured what happened at the restaurant entrance yesterday.

This thought made her sit up abruptly in bed.

She left home before dawn.

The morning air was cool, and there were hardly any people on the streets, except for a few sanitation workers sweeping the ground.

She hailed a taxi and headed straight for "Red Bean Restaurant".

The "Red Bean Restaurant" also serves breakfast. The doors were open, and the chefs and staff inside were already busy at work.

The steam from the steamed buns, mixed with the aroma of soy milk, wafted out of the shop.

Ye Linchen walked into the store and asked a young waiter who was wiping a table.

"Hello, comrade, I'd like to ask if you have security cameras installed in your store?"

The salesperson looked up at her and nodded readily. "It's installed. It was just installed a few days ago, and we just started using it."

Upon hearing this affirmative answer, Ye Linchen's heart skipped a beat.

She immediately asked, "Could I see the recording from last night?"

The waiter shook his head: "We can't handle that. We need officers from the Public Security Bureau to come with proof before we can move it."

This answer was exactly what Ye Linchen wanted to hear.

This is exactly the result she wanted.

Upon receiving this confirmation, she didn't waste a moment and quickly turned and walked towards the police station.

Just then, Meng Zihan was shouting herself hoarse for evidence, so she naturally had to satisfy her.

Upon hearing the word "surveillance," Meng Zihan's face drained of all color in an instant.

She instinctively clenched her fists, trying her best to steady her shaky footing.

That sliver of hope prevented her from giving up. She took a step forward, grabbed Gu Yifei's sleeve, and her voice trembled.

"Brother Yifei, the evidence is right there now, have you thought it through?"

“If we actually go to see it, there will be no turning back.”

"Why bother? Why go to such lengths and make things so extreme?"

Her words carried a hint of pleading and a subtle threat.

Gu Yifei forcefully pulled his sleeve out of her hand.

"Go check the surveillance footage."

“If I really did that,” he said, emphasizing each word, “I will bear whatever punishment I deserve.”

"If not..."

He stopped, his eyes, once brimming with tenderness, now like a frozen lake, chilling to the bone.

He just stared at Meng Zihan quietly. He didn't need to say anything more; the disgust and hatred surging in his eyes said it all.

That hatred was like a sharp knife, instantly piercing through Meng Zihan's last psychological defense, and she panicked completely.
