Chapter 9: No Purchase Limits, Grab Rice!

Shiyue suddenly opened her eyes.

Then I found myself sitting back down in front of the stove.

The house remained perfectly quiet, and apart from some of the firewood that had been put into the stove burning, nothing else had changed.

Shiyue blinked in disbelief, feeling completely confused.

She looked down at the box of rice she was still clutching tightly.

The rice was still warm, emitting the unique aroma of grains.

With this lunchbox, she couldn't keep telling herself that everything that had just happened was just a dream.

What's more, her stomach was bulging, and the smell of fried chicken still lingered on her fingers.

Shiyue's mind was in complete chaos, and she couldn't understand what she had gone through.

Just then, a movie screen suddenly appeared in front of her, exactly the same as the one she had seen in that room.

However, the curtain seemed to have been shrunk, about the same size as the red envelope she had seen first.

The food pictures that were previously displayed on the screen are now gone, replaced by a gray background like that of a book.

There are some densely packed words on the background.

Shiyue is no longer so afraid of it; she even dares to lean in and examine it closely.

Then she saw a slightly larger line of text at the top of the gray-white background that read: "Group Buying Deals and Special Offers (499)"

Before Shiyue could even look at the words below, a huge firework suddenly appeared on the background, followed by a line of smaller text:

Welcome to the group! Please claim your welcome gift and complete your personal information as soon as possible.

Before Shiyue could react to the meaning of those words, another red envelope appeared on the background, exactly the same as the one she had seen before!

Shi Yue suddenly felt a jolt.

I instinctively reached out and tapped it.

The envelope was opened, but this time, instead of numbers like the first one, a line of large characters appeared: "Hurry up, the red envelopes are all gone."

Shiyue thought for a moment, then clicked on the bottom line of the envelope: "Check everyone's luck."

The page changed again, this time displaying many names, followed by numbers representing monetary amounts.

Shiyue's gaze fell on the "best luck" sign, and she noticed that the amount following that name was 0.71 yuan.

Shiyue felt that she had probably figured it out.

This red envelope should be just like the red paper packet that her parents used to put under her pillow during Chinese New Year; it really does contain money!

However, she couldn't see the money, nor could she get her hands on it.

But no matter what, that's still seventy cents!

Just by clicking, you can get so much money?

A hint of envy appeared in Shiyue's eyes.

She looked away from the red envelope and back at the curtain.

Shi Yue then noticed that in just a short while, many pictures of various little children had appeared on the gray background.

They all had signs saying "Thank you!" or something similar.

What shocked Shiyue the most was—

She actually saw a picture of a young man kneeling on the ground and kowtowing repeatedly!

Above the image are four black characters: Thank you, boss!

Shiyue's eyes widened in surprise!

Isn’t it said that a man’s knees are made of gold?

Why would you kneel down for such a small amount of money?

She couldn't quite understand it.

Just as Shiyue was lost in thought, a message appeared below those pictures.

[Group purchase hot item: Authentic Wuchang rice! Rich flavor, best reputation!]

35 yuan for a 10-jin bag, 69 yuan for two 20-jin bags, first come, first served, shipped in the order of payment.

Immediately following this statement, several more photos appeared against the background.

Someone is holding a handful of glistening white rice in both hands;

There was a bowl overflowing with steaming hot rice;

There were also piles of bags of rice, stacked as high as a wall.

Shiyue felt as if her throat was on fire!

My eyes are glued to the photo and I can't tear them off.

She never imagined that one day she would see so much white rice!

Shiyue's mind raced as she pondered the meaning of those earlier words—

She felt that this rice should be something she could buy freely!

No purchase restrictions, and no food coupons required!

The idea was too audacious, and Shiyue subconsciously held her breath.

And as if to confirm her thoughts, a long paragraph was quickly added below the photo:

Wuchang Rice: 1. Two 20-jin bags tomorrow (paid)

2. Tangyuan Mama's 10-jin bag (already paid)

3. Teacher Lu, 40 jin (approximately 20 catties) of goods (already paid).

...

As Shiyue stared at the ever-increasing number of names and the numbers following them, she felt her heart clench into knots.

She wants this rice too!

It's a pity that she has no money.

All she had was the eighteen yuan her father had left her before he died; that was all the family's possessions.

For more than a year, I endured hunger and hardship at the Sun family's house, and even when I could barely afford to eat, I couldn't bear to spend the money.

At this point, it would be impossible to use the money to buy rice.

But she really wanted it!

Shiyue felt that she might never see such good rice again in her lifetime.

etc!

Shiyue suddenly remembered the first red envelope she had opened, the so-called newcomer gift package.

The number inside is 49.9!

So... it must be money?

If so, can she use it to buy rice?

Shiyue's heart leaped into her throat!

Her hands and feet were ice-cold, but her face began to feel slightly hot from excitement.

Her eyes searched frantically on the screen, trying to find where the 49.9 she had ordered earlier was.

She found it very quickly.

Shiyue noticed a line of small print in an inconspicuous spot in the upper right corner of the screen: Wallet balance: 49.9 yuan.

A big smile immediately bloomed on her face.

Shiyue took a deep breath and said in an extremely devout tone, "Shiyue, one bag weighs 10 jin."

Soon, the text on the background was updated.

Beneath that densely packed handwriting, a line of smaller characters appeared:

【42, 10 jin (10 catties) per bag (paid)】

Meanwhile, the balance in the upper right corner changed from 49.9 yuan to 14.9 yuan.

As the numbers changed, Shiyue suddenly felt a jolt, followed by a loud bang.

The sound was incredibly familiar; it was exactly the same as the sound of those three paper bags falling earlier.

Shiyue felt that the rice she bought must have fallen into that room as well.

The sight of rice reminded me of those three paper bags, and the unfinished chicken legs and braised pork.

She wasn't scared at all now; all she wanted was to go back to that room.

So she did as before and devoutly recited, "Let me go back."

However, nothing changed.

Shiyue was stunned for a moment.

He quickly closed his eyes and silently repeated in his heart, "I want to go back to that room, the room where I kept my things."

Unfortunately, nothing has changed.

When Shiyue opened her eyes, she found herself still sitting in the kitchen.
