Chapter 206 Night on the Grassland

"Tomorrow I'll take some men and search the entire area to find this bear. We can't let it hurt anyone!"

Zhuang Mingcheng put down his pistol, his expression very serious.

Every day, women from the family compound go to work at the nearby farm headquarters on this road near the regiment.

There are also children from the family compound who go to the farm's primary school. If a wild bear were to injure one of them, it would be disastrous.

Lu Fangfang nodded and silently mourned for the Tibetan bear.

In this day and age, there's no such thing as animal protection.

"Awoo~"

The little Tibetan fox glanced at the pika on the grass and couldn't resist any longer.

It nudged Lu Fangfang's legs forcefully, drool dripping from the corners of its mouth.

"You heartless idiot, hurry up and eat."

Upon seeing this, Lu Fangfang couldn't help but laugh.

This little guy wasn't intimidated by the bear just now, and kept barking at the other side of the river, which is commendable.

She turned to look at Xiaohua and squatted down to scratch Xiaohua's itch.

"Little Flower is really great."

"Meow~"

Xiao Hua comfortably squinted her eyes.

Lu Fangfang touched the little flower, feeling very grateful. Luckily, the little guy was there, otherwise, if the Tibetan bear had come, they might not have even known.

They might still be biting each other when they get close.

Thinking of this, she turned to look at Zhuang Mingcheng, who was frowning and staring in the direction where Zangma Xiong had left.

"Mingcheng, why don't you go into the tent and sleep first, so you won't be too tired to look for the bear tomorrow? By the way, you have to be very careful tomorrow."

Hearing his wife's words, Zhuang Mingcheng felt even more hatred for the wild bear.

Hunting a bear is no small matter. He nodded and prepared to rest first.

It was nighttime, and the roads were barely visible on the grassland. He planned to lead his men to search for the bear as soon as it was light.

"Fangfang, call me if you need anything."

He touched Xiaohua, patted his wife's shoulder, and then went into the tent.

"This man."

Lu Fangfang smiled and shook her head. She relit the lantern and added a few more pieces of wood to the campfire.

I took a look into the incubation room. It was very warm inside, and the coal briquettes under the two stoves were burning well.

Afraid of getting cold in the early morning, she picked up the fire tongs and put two more new coal briquettes under the stove.

She clapped her hands, closed the door, and returned to the campfire.

After sleeping all afternoon, Lu Fangfang wasn't sleepy anymore. She took a few potatoes and threw them into the campfire, intending to eat them as a midnight snack.

"Crackling and popping~"

The spruce wood burned slowly, and it smelled quite nice.

Little Flower and Little Tibetan Fox lay on either side of Lu Fangfang, glancing around from time to time.

From the tent nearby, one could hear a man's breathing; he must have been asleep.

Lu Fangfang hugged her knees with both hands and looked up at the sky.

In the distance, it looked like a shooting star streaked across the sky. She quickly closed her eyes and made a wish that she could always be safe and sound.

...

In the early hours of the morning, Lu Fangfang went to check on the incubation room again.

It was the coldest time of day, so she replaced the coal briquettes with new ones and then touched the quail eggs in the quilt, finding them warm inside.

Holding a flashlight, she shone it on the bed and saw more than three hundred quail eggs lying quietly on the quilt.

"In another half month, all the baby quails in the eggs will hatch."

After closing the door tightly, Lu Fangfang stood in front of the incubation room and yawned.

Beside the campfire, Little Flower and Little Tibetan Fox had their eyes closed, with only their ears twitching occasionally.

Lu Fangfang didn't disturb them either.

She walked up to the tent, took off her shoes, and crawled inside.

As soon as she lay down, an arm reached out and pulled her into a hug.

Lu Fangfang opened her eyes wide and stared at the man for a while, feeling that he was probably still asleep.

"Comrade Zhuang Mingcheng, your actions deserve recognition."

She muttered something under her breath, kissed the man on the cheek, and then closed her eyes.

...

At five o'clock in the morning, when it was still dark outside, Zhuang Mingcheng woke up.

He glanced at his wife in his arms, gently pulled his slightly numb arm out, and wanted to go check on the incubation room.

What are you doing?

Lu Fangfang, with her eyes closed and still half-asleep, grabbed him.

"It's alright, you go to sleep, I'll go check on the incubation room."

"No need, I just went there."

Lu Fangfang closed her eyes and pulled the man back.

Using the man's arm as a pillow, she spread her legs, wrapped them around him, and quickly fell asleep again.

Zhuang Mingcheng stroked his lover's hair, feeling both amused and exasperated.

My wife's sleeping posture is really not flattering; I wonder what kind of peculiar habit it is.

Soon, the sky began to lighten.

Zhuang Mingcheng carefully withdrew his hands and legs, picked up his clothes, and walked out of the tent.

Outside, the campfire had gone out, and now only wisps of smoke were rising from it.

Hearing the noise, Xiaohua turned around and saw Zhuang Mingcheng. She then closed her eyes again.

Zhuang Mingcheng walked over, stroked its head, and whispered, "You've worked hard, get some sleep."

He picked up Xiaohua and put her into his lover's tent.

It's dark inside, perfect for sleeping.

He walked up to the campfire and looked down at the little Tibetan fox.

The little guy was lying on the grass, fast asleep. When someone came over, the little guy didn't wake up, only his ears twitched.

Zhuang Mingcheng shook his head, ignored it, and let the little guy sleep there.

He went to check on the incubation room and, seeing that the temperature was normal, left and headed straight for the regiment.

The matter of the wild bear cannot be delayed; he must immediately send people to search for it.

...

A sudden, loud clatter of hooves startled Lu Fangfang awake from her sleep. She vaguely felt someone licking her hair.

"Ugh, stop fooling around..."

With her eyes closed, she reached out and touched the side, only to feel a large, furry head.

A smile appeared on her face, and she pulled him into her arms, holding him as they continued to sleep.
