"This greedy donkey has finally learned to be afraid."
Seeing the little wild donkey run away, Lu Fangfang smiled and returned to the stove.
The water in the pot was still boiling. She picked up a piece of rock goat meat, swished it around in the broth for a while, blew on it, and then put it in her mouth.
It's cold at night now, and a bite of hot mutton feels so comforting.
"Fangfang, I've sent out those two letters. They should arrive soon."
Lu Fangfang nodded, indicating that she understood.
She looked up at the room and said, "Mingcheng, Xiuxiu will be here in two months. Why don't we build a small kang (heated brick bed) on the north side of the wooden bed? We can use it later."
"By the way, winter is coming soon, so we need to buy a big stove and a chimney pipe. If they're hard to find, we might as well build one ourselves. We need to prepare in advance."
Zhuang Mingcheng looked back and pondered.
He has just been appointed as the deputy regimental commander, and he will be staying in Qilian for at least six or seven years.
After my wife gives birth, we will definitely need a small heated kang bed.
"Don't worry about this, leave it to me. After a couple of days of rest, I'll get Dazhuang and a few others together, and we can finish it in a day. The furnace issue is also easy to handle; I'll ask about it when we go to the county next month."
“Okay, we happen to have some mutton at home. We’ll treat them to a meal on the day we work.”
Hearing her husband's words, Lu Fangfang felt relieved.
She tore off some cabbage leaves, blanched them in the pot, and then ate them.
"Meow~"
Little Flower tugged at her leg and looked up at her.
Seeing this, Lu Fangfang scalded some mutton and put it in Xiaohua's basin.
Little Flower is a big contributor to our lamb dinner tonight, so we can't treat her badly.
Lu Fangfang was eating some hot potato slices when she saw a large donkey's head poking in through the doorway.
Seemingly hesitant, the little wild donkey looked around and then retreated.
After a while, it poked its head in again, its eyes fixed on the pot.
"Hmm? You stubborn little donkey, you still want to eat?"
"Oh...ah..."
Lu Fangfang looked on, still somewhat taken aback.
Is this gluttonous donkey addicted to spicy food?
After hesitating for a moment, she blanched some cabbage and mutton, put them in a basin, and then carried it to the doorway.
This time, the little wild donkey wasn't in a hurry. It lowered its head, sniffed, and then licked it.
"Oh...ah..."
It seemed very excited; it snorted, paused for a moment, and then licked it again.
"You silly donkey, you've really gotten addicted to it?"
Lu Fangfang looked on, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
Oh no, her gluttonous son is truly invincible; he's not even afraid of spicy food anymore.
"Fangfang, don't worry about it. Let it eat if it wants to. As long as it's not afraid of spicy food, it's fine."
As Zhuang Mingcheng spoke, he cooked some mutton in the hot pot, picked it up, and put it in his wife's bowl.
"I'm just afraid of making it too spicy."
Lu Fangfang glanced at it again, but then stopped caring.
She returned to the stove, picked up her chopsticks, and continued eating.
The two enjoyed their dinner very much that evening.
This is the first time I've eaten so satisfyingly since the last hunt of the Great Bear.
The same was true for the little wild donkey at the doorway.
It lowered its head and licked the juice off the cabbage leaves, then opened its mouth and stuck out its tongue. The spicy sensation was somewhat addictive to it.
Finally, some cabbage leaves and potato slices were left on the table.
There was too much food to eat, so Lu Fangfang rinsed it in the hot water and gave it all to the little wild donkey, intending to let it eat its fill.
This greedy donkey needs to be taught a lesson, so it won't try to eat everything.
After the meal, Lu Fangfang tidied up and went into the inner room.
Sitting at her desk, she looked at the few pictures she had drawn that day, and then began to draw the content of the comic strip.
The first scene is a mother Pallas's rabbit giving birth to five babies on a rainy night.
This scene was changed by President Sun. She found it quite appealing and didn't think about changing it again.
"Fangfang, did you draw all of these today?"
Zhuang Mingcheng stood beside his wife, looking at several sheets of drawing paper.
"Yes, I went to the grassland to sketch today. I drew whatever I saw. These are all of them."
Lu Fangfang picked up a stack of drawing paper, handed it to her husband, and then bent down to draw again.
Zhuang Mingcheng held the drawing paper and admired each sheet.
He had seen Tibetan foxes and Pallas's cats before, so it wasn't surprising, but he was somewhat astonished to see the pika in the painting.
This skinny pika is quite the clever one; it even steals grass from other people's burrows.
My wife's drawing is also very good; it's lifelike, and she even captured the chubby rabbit's angry little expression, making it very endearing.
He chuckled to himself for a while, then went out and poured his wife another glass of water.
Sitting next to his wife, he propped his head up and watched her draw.
Lu Fangfang was now completely absorbed in the painting.
She put her heart and soul into every stroke of the illustrations she drew for the publishing house, striving to make them as good as possible.
After a while, Lu Fangfang had finished drawing most of it.
He glanced at him and saw that Zhuang Mingcheng had already closed his eyes, so he told him to go and sleep on the kang (a heated brick bed).
It was late at night and a bit cold. By the time she finished drawing the first picture, it was already 9:30.
She put down her pen, picked it up and looked at it, feeling quite satisfied.
On a rainy night, a flash of lightning illuminated the grassland. In a burrow under a large rock, a mother Pallas's cat was licking five newborn cubs whose eyes were not yet open.
On the drawing paper, every single hair of the Pallas's cat is clearly visible, making it appear lifelike.
She carefully put it in the drawer, then stood up and stretched.
Looking back, she saw that her husband was already asleep on the kang (a heated brick bed). She quickly walked to the yard and went to the toilet.
As Lu Fangfang washed her hands after coming out of the outhouse, she saw the little wild donkey standing in front of the basin, drinking water voraciously.
