Chapter 482 Gao Dajiang promoted, Zhuang Mingcheng acting as regimental commander

In early April, the weather warmed up, and the soil in the ground gradually thawed.

The women in the family compound who were idle took their children to the fields by the river to continue clearing land.

Seeing that the temperature wouldn't drop any further, Lu Fangfang prepared to cultivate the land and plant some vegetables.

Now that they have a wild donkey at home, it's easier to clear land and farm. She specially took out money and asked Xiuxiu to buy a plow in the county so that the wild donkey could plow the land.

This year's farming will all depend on Xiuxiu, but she's too pregnant to do it.

...

In the morning, Zhuang Mingcheng put on his jacket, still feeling a little uneasy before heading to the regiment.

"Wife, you and Xiuxiu shouldn't overwork yourselves. If it's really too much, we'll plant less this year."

He's been so busy these days that he hasn't had time to help his wife with any chores.

"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."

Lu Fangfang walked up to him, reached out and straightened his clothes, then put his military cap on his head.

Remembering the rumors circulating in the family compound recently, she asked in a low voice, "I heard that Commander Gao is going to be promoted?"

The women in the family compound have been talking about this lately, and she overheard it. She heard that he was going to be promoted to deputy division commander.

As for the brigade structure, it was abolished during the major reorganization of the army at the founding of the People's Republic of China. There is no brigade commander position now. Brigade-level units only appeared in the 1980s and 1990s to adapt to the requirements of modern warfare.

Zhuang Mingcheng glanced at his wife, then silently nodded.

Not only is Regiment Commander Gao getting promoted, but their regiment is also splitting off a battalion and a company to go to new units. The regiment has been arguing fiercely about who will be in charge of that battalion and company.

This year, their regiment will have the most new recruits in a year. In two months, he will be busy with training and will not be able to spare any time.

"So he really is going to be promoted to deputy division commander."

Upon hearing this, Lu Fangfang was both happy and somewhat worried.

Commander Gao is such a good person. She was a little reluctant to see him leave, but since he was going to be promoted to deputy division commander, all she could do was offer her her blessings.

"Has the new regimental commander been decided? What's he like?"

Zhuang Mingcheng looked at his wife with a slight puzzlement, "Don't we already have a commander like me? What's the point of having a new commander?"

"ah?"

Lu Fangfang was slightly taken aback, then her heart was filled with joy.

She grabbed Zhuang Mingcheng's arm, looking at him with bright, sparkling eyes, "Are you going to become a full-fledged employee?"

"Ahem, Acting Commander,"

Zhuang Mingcheng coughed, looking slightly smug.

Having served as deputy regimental commander for less than a year, he's about to be promoted to acting regimental commander; this can be considered a promotion on the spot.

Because of the newly established 19th Army, the military region is currently transferring personnel and cadres to the new units, but no one is coming to their regiment.

"Mingcheng, you're amazing!"

Lu Fangfang stood on tiptoe and gave him a big kiss.

My husband is now the acting regimental commander. If he works for a few more years, he will definitely be promoted to division commander in the military region, and maybe even have a chance to become a corps commander.

"Ahem, Xiuxiu is still here."

"Alright, don't reveal this yet."

Zhuang Mingcheng stroked his wife's hair, then strode away.

This is a crucial moment, and he can't afford to mess things up.

"Sister, you're so embarrassing."

Xiuxiu stood to the side, laughing as she spoke.

Lu Fangfang rolled her eyes at Xiuxiu, not caring at all. She was happy to hear such great news.

"Meow~"

On the double wooden bed, Xiaohua jumped off, shook herself, and then walked over.

"Xiaohua, your dad is going to become the acting leader."

Lu Fangfang smiled and stroked its fluffy head.

"Meow~"

Little Flower nuzzled against its hand, then looked outside.

"Alright, let's go to the meadow now."

Lu Fangfang called to Xiuxiu, put the shovel and wooden pear on the donkey cart, and then went to the wasteland on the riverbank.

Early in the morning, many women were already busy in the fields.

She slowly looked around and found that the soil her sisters-in-law had turned over was quite thin. If they didn't add more fertilizer, the harvest would be hard to come by.

When they arrived at their own land, she took a shovel and, together with Xiuxiu, spread the manure that had been collected over the winter and fermented for several months onto the land.

The house was lit by fire all winter, which accumulated a lot of wood ash.

The two men took shovels and carefully scattered them on the ground.

As for the ammonium bicarbonate fertilizer at home, Lu Fangfang plans to save it for top dressing, as she doesn't need it right now.

She dusted off her hands and turned to look at the little wild donkey.

"Little stubborn donkey, come here."

"Oh...ah..."

The little wild donkey wagged its tail and slowly walked forward.

"You stubborn little donkey, you ate several sunflower heads last year and so much of the family's grain. Now it's your turn to do your work. Plow the fields properly, and when the grain is grown, you'll get to eat first."

Lu Fangfang stroked the donkey's head and put the wooden pear on its body.

She had the last few sunflower seeds in her pocket, so she took them out and stuffed them into the donkey's mouth.

The little wild donkey chewed it and snorted excitedly.

Once Xiuxiu had prepared the wooden plow, it wagged its little tail and slowly started pulling it.

For it, plowing the land and pulling a cart are pretty much the same, just a bit boring.

Looking towards the stream ahead, it raised its head and cried out.

"Oh...ah..."

"Giggle~"

The ice in the stream has melted, and there's still plenty of water. The ducks and geese at home are swimming on the surface, seemingly unfazed by the cold.

Lu Fangfang stood at the edge of the field, watching with a smile on her face.

The arrival of the little wild donkey this year has made things much more convenient.

She slowly walked to the riverbank and looked into the stream again. Her family's Big Gray, Little Gray, and Big White geese were all together, pecking at the water. She wondered if there were any fish in the stream.
