Li Xiuxiu then remembered the gift Wei Mo had given her. She brought the rose to her nose and gently smelled it.
The sweet fragrance of roses invigorated Li Xiuxiu, and she felt a little reluctant to leave.
Wei Mo noticed Li Xiuxiu's gaze, smiled at her, and then spoke softly.
"Don't worry, my dear wife, I'll just put it away for you first, and then I'll get it from the Dragon King for you when you want to see it."
After hearing Wei Mo's words, Li Xiuxiu nodded happily and handed the roses to Wei Mo.
The moment the rose was placed in Wei Mo's palm, it vanished instantly and was stored in his spatial backpack.
Li Xiuxiu looked at her watch, which was still ticking away, smiled gently at Wei Mo, and slowly spoke.
"Let's go back, don't let our families worry."
Wei Mo nodded, put the roses into his spatial storage, and followed Li Xiuxiu, the two holding hands as they walked towards the village.
Wei Mo thought he had a pretty good Valentine's Day, even though it wasn't really a big thing yet. Thinking about Valentine's Day, he couldn't help but pat his head in annoyance.
Then Wei Mo tugged at Li Xiuxiu's small hand.
Li Xiuxiu was taken aback and turned to look at Wei Mo with a puzzled expression. Wei Mo quickly bought a piece of chocolate from his spatial storage and handed it to Li Xiuxiu.
"Wife, this is to commemorate our arrival today! Eat it quickly, and we'll be happily married from now on! Don't let anyone else find out."
Li Xiuxiu looked at the unfamiliar thing Wei Mo handed her, but she was very happy. Li Xiuxiu happily opened the package and saw a dark, unidentified object inside.
Then she gently broke off a small piece and looked at Wei Mo in front of her. Wei Mo gestured for her to eat it.
"Quickly, try it and see how it tastes! This is food!"
Li Xiuxiu put Qiaoheli in her mouth. The chocolate was of good quality, melting in her mouth and full of sweetness.
Xiuxiu savored the sweet taste, her eyes slightly closed, and she sipped the chocolate with her tongue.
The chocolate had melted and flowed into Li Xiuxiu's mouth. She looked at the chocolate in her hand, then broke off a piece and put it to Wei Mo's mouth, wanting to feed it to him.
Wei Mo opened his mouth, enjoying the chocolate his wife fed him, a look of happiness on his face.
The two of them stood by the roadside, enjoying the sweetness of the chocolate and the sweetness of their love.
Only after finishing the chocolate did Wei Mo happily say to Li Xiuxiu.
"Honey, if you want to eat this in the future, just tell me and I'll ask the Dragon King! How is it? Isn't it delicious? Isn't it incredibly sweet!"
Li Xiuxiu nodded, a blush creeping onto her face, and said in a very low voice.
"Okay, honey."
Wei Mo was overjoyed to hear this. He was now a married man, and although he couldn't be lecherous, he still had a wife!
Holding Li Xiuxiu's hand, Wei Mo happily skipped and hopped towards home.
The two returned home hand in hand, where a flurry of activity was taking place as Grandma and several female educated youths were cleaning the rooms.
When Li Xiuxiu returned, her face flushed, and she quickly went to help. Wei Mo, on the other hand, saw his grandfather and maternal grandfather take out a large red paper.
Today is February 14th, 1961, which is not only Valentine's Day in the West, but also Chinese New Year's Eve in our country.
There are many customs for New Year's Eve, one of which is pasting couplets.
Pasting couplets, also known as pasting New Year red, or Hunchun, is one of the Chinese New Year customs.
However, in this day and age, although people still put up New Year's decorations, most of them are handwritten.
They usually find elderly people in the village who can write to write, and most of them are highly respected.
In Wei Mo's family, the writing was naturally done by the old man himself, who had attended a private school.
The old man unfolded the cut red paper, holding a brush in his right hand, with an inkstone beside him.
Wei Xiaomin and Wei Xiaohui watched with wide eyes.
Wei Mo also hurriedly ran over to join in the fun, while Wei Xiaomin tugged at her grandfather's clothes and asked curiously.
"Grandpa, Grandpa, what are you doing? Are you going to write big characters?"
Grandpa Yu patted Wei Xiaomin's head, smiled indulgently, nodded, and said lovingly to Wei Xiaomin, Wei Mo, and Wei Xiaohui.
"Yes, I'll write some 'Fu' characters for our family and two couplets. You know, many of the couplets and 'Fu' characters in our village were written by Grandpa!"
The old man also likes to show off to his beloved granddaughter, just like a little kid.
Upon hearing this, Wei Xiaomin's eyes lit up, and she kept praising Grandpa Yu from the side.
"Grandpa, you're amazing! I want to be just as amazing as you when I grow up!"
Grandpa Yu was very pleased to hear his granddaughter's praise, and picked up his brush to dip it in the prepared ink.
Then, on a large square piece of red paper, he picked up a pen and wrote the character "福" (fu, meaning good fortune).
The character "福" (fu, meaning good fortune) is one of the most common red decorations pasted up during the Lunar New Year. However, in Northeast China, there's a custom of pasting the "福" character upside down. This is also known as "福倒了" (fu dao le).
At that moment, Qian Manman, who was in the kitchen, also walked over to the old man. She was carrying a small basin filled with a batter made from flour.
This is specifically for pasting couplets. There's no glue available now, so although it's a bit wasteful of food, everyone still wants to receive New Year's blessings.
When Wei Xiaomin saw it, her eyes lit up, thinking it was something delicious. She pulled Qian Manman along and quickly ran over to take a look. Then she said to Qian Manman...
"Aunt Manman, is this rice porridge? I'm so hungry."
After Wei Xiaomin finished speaking, she rubbed her little belly and looked at the rice cereal with some envy. She even licked her lips.
Wei Mo couldn't help but laugh when he saw his older sister looking like a little foodie.
The others also teased Wei Xiaomin, who was embarrassed by the young man who had robbed her, her face turning red with shame.
She then gave a soft hum and began to speak.
"Hmph, I'm ignoring you all, you're all laughing at me."
After saying that, she ran to the old man's side and watched him write.
After Grandpa Yu finished writing the character "福" (Fu, meaning good fortune), Wei Mo quickly stepped forward to take it and gave Grandpa Yu a sweet smile.
"Grandpa, Grandpa, give it to me, I'll go put it on, I'll go put it on!"
Wei Mo was particularly enthusiastic about pasting up the "Fu" character, waiting for the old man to hand it to him.
Seeing how much Wei Mo liked it, Grandpa Yu handed him the "Fu" character and gave him some instructions.
"Grandson, be careful, the ink isn't dry yet, don't get it on yourself."
Wei Mo nodded, then took the large "Fu" character and went to Qian Manman's side. He dipped some paste in the paste and smeared it on the back of the red paper of the "Fu" character.
Then he searched around the yard, trying to find a suitable place to put the "福" (good fortune) character, and finally set his sights on the gate.
Wei Mo ran to the door, turned the "福" (good fortune) character upside down, and stuck it on the front door of the house.
Qian Manman, who was standing to the side, burst into laughter after seeing Wei Mo's actions and teased him.
"Wei Mo, you little brat! You pasted it upside down. You pasted it upside down."
