Chapter 107 Glimpse

The family of four carried baskets full of fish and walked along, resting occasionally. Before they even reached their doorstep, Zhou Mingli spotted something and grabbed Jiang Ci, leading the two children to hide!

He and Jiang Ci watched as a dark figure circled past the front door of their house and went to the back of the house.

Not long after, they returned along the road and headed into the village.

They might not be able to see who the person was, but they were certain it was a man!

Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli took in each other's actions and waited silently until the other had completely left and was no longer in sight before carrying the fish basket and the child back into the house.

The two children were so sleepy that they were wobbling as they walked.

Zhou Mingli boiled water, and once the water was ready, Jiang Ci quickly stripped the two children naked, gave them a bath, and promptly put them to bed.

After closing the door to the main room, Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli, quite in sync, took flashlights and walked outside.

Reaching the front gate, Zhou Mingli picked up a shovel, and the two quietly left the house, arriving at the back of their house.

"Where is it hidden or buried?" Jiang Ci asked Zhou Mingli while looking at the area where the light was shining.

Zhou Mingli said coldly, "From the time he went to the back of our house to the time he left, it definitely didn't take more than five minutes. He didn't look like he had a shovel with him."

The two searched around on the ground but couldn't find any spot where the soil had been turned over.

Jiang Ci looked at the trees behind her house and said, "What if he climbed up the trees and put things there?"

Very likely!

Zhou Mingli immediately shone the flashlight upwards and searched around. Jiang Ci suddenly saw something and grabbed Zhou Mingli's arm, "Don't move!"

Jiang Ci raised his hand and pointed it at a branch next to a not-so-short, crooked tree.

"Is there a package there?"

"Yes, you take it, I'll climb up and take a look."

Zhou Mingli handed the flashlight to Jiang Ci, then quickly walked over, climbed up the crooked tree, and, being tall, easily grabbed the package on the branch.

Zhou Mingli immediately sensed something was wrong when he touched it.

Jiang Ci, seeing that he didn't move, clicked her tongue and said, "What are you standing there for? Come down here."

Zhou Mingli obediently climbed down from the crooked tree and said in a low voice, "Let's go back first."

Seeing his strange expression, Jiang Ci didn't say anything. The two of them quickly went home. As soon as the door closed, Jiang Ci shone the light of her flashlight on it.

Zhou Mingli opened the package.

There was a plate inside.

It has a simple and elegant style, a celadon glaze, and is decorated with plum blossoms, orchids, and bamboo

“These are the artifacts we saw Xia Lei and Li Hu trading with that bespectacled man on the mountain.” Jiang Ci recognized them at a glance.

What does it mean that this thing appeared behind their door?

Xia Lei put the things there!

He is ready to take action!

Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli exchanged a glance, both understanding the significance of this thing appearing outside their door.

Jiang Ci scoffed, "I don't plan to let the Red Sleeves group do it. Xia Lei will do it himself."

"What do you think is the reason he's resorting to desperate measures?" Zhou Mingli asked coldly. "Is it related to Zhou Gou's return to his hometown?"

"perhaps."

“Zhou Gou is a soldier. The fact that he gave Xiao Huai Daoxiangcun pastries proves that even if he was not in Beijing, his place of service was not far from Beijing.”

What is Beijing? The capital of the country! A place where the power of three department heads is concentrated—you could hit them with a brick!

If that group collapses in another month and the red armbands completely disappear from the historical stage, how could there be no movement in Beijing?

It's perfectly reasonable for Zhou Gou to sense something was wrong and hear rumors.

Jiang Ci suddenly remembered something, "Wait!"

Jiang Ci turned to Zhou Mingli and said, word by word, "In the original book, Cheng Yehan had already passed away at this point in time. It was Liu Yinyin who took his body for burial and he was appreciated by a big shot. Do you think that in the original text, it was Zhou Gou who returned to his hometown and let Xia Lei know that the old man Cheng Yehan in the cowshed was a relative of that big shot!"

Before Zhou Mingli could nod, Jiang Ci's thoughts were becoming clearer and clearer. She quickly said, "Xia Lei wanted to pin the crime of stealing cultural relics on us so that I could move Liu Yinyin to a different position and let her contact Liu Yinyin, thus taking the opportunity to befriend that important person."
