Their breaths seemed to intertwine for a moment before Jiang Ci abruptly retreated, casually shifting her gaze away.
Her hand was still being held by Zhou Mingli. Jiang Ci immediately tried to pull it back, but Zhou Mingli held on tightly and did not let go.
Zhou Mingli calmly said, "Don't move around. If they find us, we won't be able to leave."
Jiang Ci glanced at him sideways, "I won't move if you don't tell me."
After saying that, she gently raised her head and continued to look at the place where Li Hu and Xia Lei had appeared.
This is a meeting of three people: Li Hu, Xia Lei, and a man wearing a cotton short-sleeved shirt, dark blue trousers, and glasses.
From Jiang Ci's perspective, one could clearly see what the three people were doing.
The bespectacled man looked around and then handed Xia Lei a package.
Jiang Ci unconsciously slowed her breathing and squinted her eyes. Xia Lei opened the package, and Jiang Ci could vaguely see half of a celadon plate peeking out from it.
That is...
Jiang Ci understood what it was almost instantly.
Zhou Mingli also witnessed this scene.
Unseen by Xia Lei and Li Hu, Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli, a married couple, secretly observed each other with intense curiosity.
Unaware of what was happening, Li Hu and Xia Lei exchanged a glance, took out a rather thick 10,000-yuan note from their pockets, and handed it to the man with glasses.
Clearly, this wasn't the first time they'd done this kind of deal. The bespectacled man glanced at the money, realizing that Li Hu and Xia Lei hadn't cheated him, so he silently put the money away and turned to leave.
Xia Lei quickly packed up his things, leaned on his bicycle, and left with Li Hu.
The transaction was very short, and they didn't communicate at all. After the transaction was completed, they went their separate ways.
Before Li Hu and Xia Lei could look over, Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli lowered their heads in perfect unison, their heads bumping lightly together.
Jiang Ci immediately covered her mouth.
Something in the woods was swaying gently.
Xia Lei and Li Hu stopped in their tracks and immediately looked in the direction from which the sound came from.
"Is someone there?" Xia Lei asked in a low, wary voice.
"I'll go take a look." Li Hu took a step forward.
As they got closer to where Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli were hiding, they could already hear Li Hu banging something around.
Jiang Ci remained remarkably calm, not uttering a sound, and kept her head down, calmly looking at the ground.
Li Hu continued walking, parting the bushes.
Getting closer and closer.
Just as Li Hu felt something was reflecting the sunlight and was about to take a closer look, he suddenly heard footsteps.
Xia Lei immediately pushed the bike back the way he came, and called out urgently in a low voice, "Li Hu!"
Li Hu was also startled by the footsteps. He didn't care what was in the bushes and hurriedly followed Xia Lei to leave.
The person making the footsteps was far away, looking around. "Is anyone there?"
"No, there are only small animals around here, so the sound must have come from them."
“You’re right, but the captain has already confessed that he suspects someone in the archaeological team of embezzling. We have to keep a close watch on them and absolutely not allow anyone to take national cultural relics out to sell, understand?”
"We understand, we understand!"
As the conversation faded into the distance, Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli waited patiently for a long time until there was no sound from them before slowly raising their heads.
They looked at each other, but neither of them spoke.
Zhou Mingli pushed his bicycle and quietly approached Jiang Ci.
A huge barrier was formed by barbed wire, and inside the barrier was a heavily guarded archaeological team.
This is the burial pit, an archaeological site heavily guarded by the government and the military!
After Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli finished reading, they didn't linger. Carrying bamboo nets on their backs and pushing their bicycles, they headed down a completely different path from Xia Lei and Li Hu.
After walking quite a distance and entering a grove of trees, Jiang Ci and Zhou Mingli finally began to talk. "I finally know where Li Hu got that ceramic bowl from."
"These are artifacts we got from the archaeological team!"
“Li Hu and Xia Lei have clearly done this before; they’re very skilled at it,” Zhou Mingli said calmly. “They’re selling goods in the ghost market?”
Jiang Ci nodded, "That must be it."
As she pondered, she said, "In this book, not long after Xia Lei and Liu Yinyin returned to their hometown, Liu Yinyin was admitted to university. Two years later, with the reform and opening up, Xia Lei took advantage of the opportunity to start a business. Later, he went to Northeast China to deal in oil and made a fortune. As the real estate industry began to develop, Xia Lei used the money he made from oil to invest in real estate and became the richest man in the country."
"Based on your and my contest with Xia Lei a few days ago, do you think Xia Lei is a smart person?" Jiang Ci turned to ask Zhou Mingli.
Zhou Mingli lowered his eyelids and thought for a moment before saying, "He thought of sending you to the cowshed to deliver food in order to deal with you. Regardless of whether he is smart or not, Xia Lei must be a ruthless killer."
"He is vindictive."
Jiang Ci chuckled, "What a coincidence, I'm also someone who holds a grudge."
Before she transmigrated, the grudges between "Jiang Ci" and Xia Lei, and Liu Yinyin had nothing to do with her. But after she transmigrated into this book, she became Jiang Ci in the book, and the grudges between "Jiang Ci" and Xia Lei were transferred to her, to the point that Xia Lei plotted against her.
Jiang Ci isn't dealing with him now because she hasn't even sorted out her own affairs and doesn't have time to bother with him. Once Jiang Ci has some free time, the first people she'll eliminate are Xia Lei and Liu Yinyin.
“Xia Lei has money for start-up capital, which is obviously earned from selling cultural relics privately. Before they leave Shanding Brigade and return to their hometown, they will definitely continue this business to accumulate funds.” Jiang Ci turned to look at Zhou Mingli. “We are really lucky this time. We have caught him red-handed.”
