Chapter 120 Mission

Meanwhile, Lin Shu had just put the rice for dinner into the pot to cook when she heard Mrs. Cao calling her downstairs.

"Xiao Lin, Xiao Lin, do you have time to come down?"

Lin Shu ran to the balcony in confusion and responded, "Sister Cao, wait a moment."

As soon as she went downstairs, she saw several military wives sitting at the door of Mrs. Cao's house, and Mrs. Wei and Mrs. Zhou from the third floor were also inside.

"Xiao Lin, come here quickly." Mrs. Cao's eyes lit up when she saw her and she waved to her quickly.

Lin Shu walked over: "Sister Cao."

"Hey, Xiaolin, sit down quickly." Mrs. Cao moved a stool for her. "I need your help with something."

Lin Shu sat down and looked at her with a puzzled look: "Sister Cao, tell me."

"Isn't National Day coming soon?" Mrs. Cao said, "Every year we military wives put on a show. What do you think we should perform?"

"I said, let's perform a dance." As soon as Mrs. Cao finished speaking, a young military wife wearing a blue top with small floral patterns said hurriedly.

"That won't do." Mrs. Wei retorted loudly, "Where are the girls from the Wenbing Troupe dancing?"

She rolled her eyes: "Wouldn't it be embarrassing if we went up there?"

The young military wife choked, her face still showing reluctance, and she opened her mouth: "Then, then what do you think we should perform?"

"Let's sing a chorus." Mrs. Wei said in a loud voice, looking quite confident.

Lin Shu listened to their discussion quietly.

She would not participate in either singing or dancing, she just wanted to be a spectator.

"I think it's okay." Several military wives nodded in agreement.

Another sister-in-law with a round face objected: "We sang in chorus two years ago. There is nothing new."

Mrs. Cao seemed to approve of the chorus.

She turned her head and looked at Lin Shu: "Xiao Lin, what do you think of performing?"

Lin Shu shook his head and smiled: "It's fine, sisters-in-law, I don't understand either."

Mrs. Cao looked at Lin Shu for a few seconds, and suddenly her eyes lit up: "How about we have two programs this year?"

She looked at the young sister-in-law in the blue shirt and said, "Those who want to dance can dance, and those who want to sing can sing."

Mrs. Cao was a little excited: "In previous years, we military wives have never performed dance programs. Xiaolin, you are so beautiful, you must be able to dance."

Lin Shu frowned slightly and waved her hands: "No, Sister Cao, I can't dance." She really had never learned to dance.

"You don't know?" Mrs. Cao said with a smile, "It doesn't matter. You can learn if you don't know."

The young military wife also said, "Sister, just follow us and dance."

"I really can't." Lin Shu quickly shook his head and said seriously, "I really can't."

"You don't look down on us, do you?" The young military wife looked dissatisfied.

What are you talking about? Lin Shu's eyebrows jumped: "Sister-in-law, I don't look down on you."

"Don't think you—"

"If Xiaolin doesn't want to dance, then don't do it," Mrs. Cao said quickly, trying to smooth things over. "Let's think of other things to do."

"Hmph." The young sister-in-law glared at Lin Shu.

Lin Shu sighed inwardly.

"Lin Shu."

At this time, Lu Zhi walked towards this side.

Lin Shu's eyes lit up, and he stood up and said to Mrs. Cao, "Mrs. Cao, I'll go first. You don't have to count me in for the performance. If there's anything else I can help with, I'll definitely help."

As if knowing that she really didn't want to perform, Mrs. Cao said readily, "Okay, go ahead."

Lin Shu went upstairs with Lu Zhi.

Behind him were the curious gazes of Mrs. Cao and the others.

I could still faintly hear the sound coming over.

"Why are the two of them so good?"

"You don't know yet..."

"That day..."

Lin Shu opened the door and turned to look at Lu Zhi: "Zhizhi, what happened?"

She saw that Lu Zhi was worried.

"I..." A hint of hesitation flashed across Lu Zhi's face, as if he didn't know how to start.

"Don't be anxious." Lin Shu asked her to sit down and poured a glass of water in front of her desk.

Lu Zhi's face was heavy, and he stammered a few times: "Did Han Yan tell you that he..."

Lin Shu suddenly recalled a time when he saw Han Yan hesitate to speak. His heart skipped a beat, but he quickly calmed down.

"How dare he hide it from me?" Lin Shu answered ambiguously.

"That's good." Lu Zhi breathed a sigh of relief and leaned forward to hold Lin Shu's hand. "Although his mission is very dangerous, he's so powerful that he will definitely be fine."

A mission? A dangerous one at that? Lin Shu's heart was in turmoil, but his face remained calm, and his tone was relaxed: "Well, I believe him."

"Yeah, I'm sure it's okay." Lu Zhi breathed a sigh of relief. "You don't know how worried I've been these past few days..."

She told Lin Shu when she heard the news and how worried she was.

"I'm just worried that it's me..." Lu Zhi said embarrassedly, "But I promise you, my dad will never do anything to Han Yan because of this."

She quickly added, looking anxious.

Lin Shu shook her hand and said, "I believe it."

Would a man who is said to be upright and ruthless let his official duties be affected by unfounded personal grudges? Probably... not.

Because it was almost dinner time, Lu Zhi left after saying that.

Lin Shu leaned against the door frame for a while, trying hard to stop himself from thinking too much.

She cooked the meal calmly.

After Han Yan came back, she behaved as usual and did not rush to ask him about the mission.

After dinner, Han Yan cleared the table and took the dishes to the kitchen basin to wash.

Lin Shu followed and stood at the kitchen door, staring at him.

"Is someone bullying my Shuer?" Han Yan turned his head and joked.

"Han Yan, are you hiding something from me?" Lin Shu couldn't hold it in any longer and was in no mood to play with him.

Han Yan paused, turned his head, and said in a relaxed tone, "How dare I hide something from Shu'er?"

Lin Shu stepped forward and put his arms around his waist from behind. He leaned his head out from his side, looked at him and said, "You're lying. You must be hiding something from me."

Han Yan continued washing the dishes, turned his head to look at her, and said with a smile: "What's the matter?

Lin Shu reached out and pinched the flesh around his waist, twisting it a little, and said dissatisfiedly, "You're lying! I heard from Lu Zhi, are you guys going on a mission?"

A trace of helplessness flashed across Han Yan's face, and he stopped what he was doing: "Sorry, I wanted to tell you later."

"Why say sorry?" Lin Shu said hesitantly.

She rested her forehead on his back, her nose instantly felt sore and tears blurred her eyes.

She opened her eyes wide, afraid that tears would fall.

She wanted to ask, is the mission dangerous? But wouldn't that be self-deception? What mission is not dangerous?

"Shu'er." Han Yan called gently.

Lin Shu did not respond.

She was afraid that she would reveal her emotions as soon as she opened her mouth.

"Shu'er." Han Yan called again.
