Lin Shu and Han Yan looked at each other.
Lin Shu frowned slightly. What was going on?
"Are you sure?" Han Yan asked again.
Director Zhou nodded, then he smiled and said, "How come you have photos of me when I was young?"
Han Yan glanced at Lin Shu.
Lin Shu nodded.
Han Yancai slowly told Director Zhou about the past of her biological parents.
Director Zhou's expression was heavy, yet also a touch emotional. He sighed and said, "To be honest, I was injured in the head during a battle, and I have lost all my memories from twenty years ago."
"When I woke up, I only remembered my name. The army didn't have any detailed information about me at the time." Director Zhou looked dejected as he continued, "After that, I kept tossing around in the army until later, perhaps because of the previous head injury, I occasionally felt dizzy and had to leave."
Lin Shu looked at Director Zhou in surprise. She was now almost certain that Director Zhou was her biological father.
"To be honest, I actually hope he is your biological father." Director Zhou looked at Lin Shu and said with a smile.
"Director Zhou, I'd like to ask you something," Lin Shu said. "Have you tried to find anyone or anything related to you since you lost your memory?"
"Of course I looked. Why not?" Director Zhou said with a helpless laugh. "But at that time, everyone who joined the army came from all over the country, and then they were dispersed into various teams to participate in various battles. They came and went, and those who left were replaced by new ones. There was no clue at all."
"So, do you still want to get your previous memories back?" Lin Shu asked tentatively.
Director Zhou looked at her in surprise, as if he didn't believe it could be found.
"I mean, I could ask someone to take a look at the wound on your head," she added hastily.
Han Yan gave her a soothing look and said to Director Zhou, "Uncle Zhou, even if you can't get your memory back, it's good to be able to heal the wound on your head."
Director Zhou thought about it, nodded, and said with a smile: "My condition is not easy to treat. I have seen many famous doctors, but they all said that it cannot be cured and can only be relieved. But it doesn't hurt to give it a try."
Han Yan nodded and looked at Lin Shu: "Then let Lin Shu take a look at it for you."
"Oh?" Director Zhou looked at Lin Shu in surprise.
Han Yan's lips curled slightly: "Don't look at her young age, she cured my leg and my mother's head injury.
Director Zhou opened his eyes wide, seemingly unable to believe it, and then praised: "You are really young and promising."
Lin Shu's face flushed and he smiled awkwardly.
At that moment, Lin Shu went to see Director Zhou.
After the diagnosis, Lin Shu frowned slightly. Perhaps because the injury had occurred so long ago, the condition was not optimistic.
"Don't feel pressured." Director Zhou seemed to see her expression and comforted her, "I've seen through life and death over the years. Just do your best."
Lin Shu nodded. She felt a pang of sadness at his silver hair, despite being only forty years old. Whether he could remember or not, she wanted to heal his wounds.
After Lin Shu made an appointment with Director Zhou for the next treatment time, he left with Han Yan.
"Don't be sad." After leaving the supply and marketing cooperative, Han Yan said softly, "Even if we can't recognize each other, he is still alive, and that's worth being happy about." It seemed that he was also certain that Director Zhou was her biological father.
"Even if it can't be cured," Han Yan paused and said softly, "Just like Director Zhou said, just do your best."
Lin Shu nodded and breathed a sigh of relief. She would do her best.
The next day, Han Yan was going to report to the army, and the next time he came back would be their wedding day.
Han Yan and Lin Shu's marriage was decided some time ago.
The two parties negotiated over the phone. Although the phone bill was expensive, it was better than going back and forth in person, and it was also a compromise in an emergency.
When they parted, Lin Shu hugged Han Yan reluctantly.
"Be good and wait for me to come back." Han Yan gently kissed her forehead.
"Yeah." Lin Shu held Han Yan's hand tightly.
As soon as he returned to the army, Instructor Gao gave Han Yan a bear hug with excitement: "Brother, you are finally back. I must have waited so long for you."
Han Yan pulled him off with an expressionless face, straightened his messed-up clothes, and said in a deep voice, "Be more serious."
Instructor Gao didn't seem to care. He smiled and hooked his arm around his shoulder. "Tell me the truth, do you miss me? Doesn't it feel like a long time since we last met?"
Han Yan glanced at him sideways, ignored him, and walked towards the dormitory with his luggage.
"Brother, let me tell you," Instructor Gao continued cheerfully, "you can't be so cold after you get married."
Han Yan paused and glanced at him.
"Ask me how I know, huh?"
Han Yan continued walking forward with an expressionless face.
"Everyone in the army knows that Han Yan is going to take her marriage leave and apply for family housing." Instructor Gao said this, and then he leaned closer to him with a playful smile. "The young nurses in the army and the young girls in the cultural corps will cry their hearts out if they find out."
Han Yan's expression remained calm as he walked into the dormitory, put his luggage on the table, opened it, took out a piece of paper and walked out again.
"Hey, where are you going?" Instructor Gao followed closely behind him.
"Go submit your marriage application." Han Yan finally spoke.
"You're really anxious, kid," Instructor Gao said, leaning closer with a mysterious look on his face. "By the way, what does your sister-in-law look like? How does she compare to Lu Xiaohua from the Cultural Corps? Lu Xiaohua has been waiting for you and has vowed to marry you."
"Is Lu Xiaohua pretty?" Han Yan asked casually.
"She's beautiful, the mainstay of the Cultural Corps. Which girl in the army can compare to her?" Instructor Gao answered smoothly.
Han Yan stopped and looked at him with a slight smile on his face.
Instructor Gao was stunned for a moment, then reacted: "Okay, you kid, dig a hole for me."
Han Yan ignored him and walked forward.
"Hey, good brother, good brother, don't tell your sister-in-law." The vocational school counselor jumped up and down around him.
When they reached the office door, Han Yan glanced at him and asked, "Do you want to go in together?"
"Of course—" Coach Gao stopped talking immediately and coughed lightly, "Of course not. You go ahead, I'll wait for you outside."
A smile flashed in Han Yan's eyes, and he raised his hand to knock on the door.
"Come in."
Han Yan walked into the office and saluted: "Hello, Brigade Commander He."
When Brigade Commander He, who was sitting at the table, saw Han Yan, a hint of excitement flashed across his face.
He walked up to Han Yan, patted Han Yan's shoulder, and said with a smile: "Good boy, you are finally back."
"Yes." Han Yan's expression softened a bit.
"How's your leg healing?"
"I've fully recovered."
"Oh, which doctor is so good?" asked Brigade Commander He, sitting back on the stool. "Don't stand, sit down and talk." He pointed to the stool opposite.
Han Yan's expression softened a bit as he sat down on the stool: "She's my fiancée."
"Fiancée?" Brigade Commander He looked surprised.
