The head chef, not wanting to be swayed by one side's opinion, decided to observe the young woman the next day.
As it turned out, they upgraded their food preparation. They prepared two lunchboxes, one filled with meat and the other with a large portion of white rice.
Who would dare hire someone like that? I'd tell her that very night that she doesn't need to come in tomorrow; she's not suitable.
They spared her some face, didn't point out her embarrassing mistake, and paid her a two-day trial period fee. She left quietly, giving the head chef the impression that he just wanted to eat first and worry about the consequences later.
Sure enough, the next day he brought two children to "reason with him".
She explained that she had elderly parents to care for and young children to raise, and that life was not easy for a widow. She hoped to hire her and even guaranteed on the spot that she would wash the vegetables perfectly clean.
The head chef didn't want to say much, only refusing in a voice only the two of them could hear: "I saw you taking food away the day before yesterday and yesterday, so you're not suitable."
I thought she would feel ashamed, but she didn't care about saving face. She sat on the ground and howled, and her two children were also crying loudly, as if they had suffered a great injustice.
When Zhang Tong brought her child, she was crying and complaining about how miserable she was, how the scheming and ruthless boss was, how he was so rich but still fussy about leftovers.
Ironically, a lunchbox fell out of her arms while she was throwing a tantrum.
She's probably planning to use the same trick again after getting forgiveness.
Did I give her too much face?
The children's clothes and faces were not as clean as before, probably a trick they used on the day of the job.
With that kind of scheming, wouldn't it be better to work hard instead of trying to get something for nothing?
Because they wouldn't let her in, she threw a tantrum at the back door of the kitchen, attracting a large audience.
Without knowing the full picture, one should not make judgments; this is merely the opinion of a portion of the population, while many others consider themselves righteous.
“It’s not easy for a young widow to raise two children. It’s just some leftovers. Letting the employees take them can help them support their children. That’s a great act of kindness.”
"How rich must someone be to build such a tall building? Why would they care about a few leftovers?"
"If you can't even guarantee the employees' food supply, who would do this kind of work? It's better to work in a factory."
"That's right. In our factory canteen, we give leftover food to our employees to take home and eat. Wasting food is a serious offense."
There are always people like this who spew nonsense, thinking they're so generous. The head chef doesn't tolerate it and is too lazy to cover for the young woman. She confronts them one by one.
"Since you feel so sorry for her, why don't you take her child home and raise it?"
"Whose money grows on trees? My boss is rich because she's capable. Does that mean just because she's rich, she should let others squander their money?"
"My boss pays me 50 yuan a month, 13 months' salary a year, plus room and board, and various holiday benefits and subsidies. Do you get such good benefits in your factory?"
"She's stealing food from the kitchen that's prepared for the guests. She takes out two big boxes a day, full of meat and rice. Can you eat this well without spending any money?"
"Food is the foundation of a restaurant. She came in and stole the most important thing. If you were the boss, would you dare to hire her? If not, don't talk nonsense."
"Are your brains on your mouths, not on the soles of your feet? Can you use your brains before you open your mouths?"
"She just said she has elderly parents and young children to support, and she was dishonest even during her trial period. If she's officially hired, will our kitchen be supporting her whole family?"
"You must live nearby to be here. Didn't we see a lot of cars on opening day?"
"Even the leaders support this kind of business, and she just says it like my boss is rich but heartless. Oh, does that mean my boss not only has to pay her salary and support her whole family, but also treat her like royalty to be a good boss?"
"Why don't you guys be the bosses like that? I wish you all a happy bankruptcy."
After criticizing each of the "righteous people" one by one, and not bothering to see whether they blushed or turned green, the head chef aimed his long gun at the little woman.
"Two large boxes of meat and one large box of rice, not counting the seasonings and the chef's labor, still cost several yuan. It's not a lot of money, but it's still theft."
"You either get out of here right now, or return the meat and rice you stole these past two days, and I'll send you to the Public Security Bureau to reflect on your actions."
"Let me tell you, my boss has powerful connections. The leaders who came on opening day were all her close friends, despite their age difference. There are so many officials in her family that you can't count them on one hand. They're all high-ranking officials. Think carefully before you cause trouble, and consider whether you can bear the consequences."
The last sentence was not only directed at the young woman, but also a reminder to those "well-meaning" people who only spew nonsense: don't even think about spreading rumors, or you won't be able to bear the consequences.
Ha, you dare to cause trouble? I'll scare you to death.
The onlookers exchanged glances without saying a word and then quietly left.
Whether they have powerful backers or not, that building itself is their biggest backer.
There's a saying, "Money makes the world go round." You can only afford a pack of cigarettes, while someone else can buy a whole carton. They don't even have the cost to bribe you. That's the difference.
Only a fool would try to break a rock with an egg.
Those who had been reprimanded by the head chef also left sheepishly, clearly having come to their senses.
Okay, at least you can see the essence of things and your brain still works.
The young woman was clearly frightened as well. She had seen the motorcade that day, and although she didn't know who the important figures were, she knew she couldn't afford to offend anyone who could afford to ride in such a car.
At this moment, she felt a little regretful. It was a good job with good pay and good food. What a pity.
She wanted to try again, so she got up and begged for mercy with a grin.
Secretly, I told myself that I could just bring less next time, just rice and meat gravy, without the meat. The meat gravy over rice was really delicious.
The head chef knew what she was up to when he saw her licking her lips, and simply replied with one word: "Get out."
