Chapter 24 Human Traffickers

The noise in the carriage subsided, and everyone stared in disbelief at Xia Wan's actions. Some even took a step back, afraid that she would target them!

“Very good. I hope that when you comrades ask others to help each other, you can also help others first, just like this man!” Xia Wan curled the corners of her mouth and glanced at the people who had just spoken.

The people who had just spoken looked away awkwardly, and the man blushed as well, but didn't dare to refute her.

"Cough cough cough... Wanwan... If you don't want to change seats, you can just say so. How could you just hit me like that!" Li Zhenzhen was thrown onto the seat and started acting up again as soon as she caught her breath.

Xia Wan looked at her disdainfully: "First of all, we're not familiar with each other, please call me Comrade Xia! Secondly, I just said I didn't want to change seats, but you sat in my seat without permission while I was in the restroom!"

"Besides, you call it changing seats, but where are you supposed to be? I'm not your mother, why should I help you? Are you old, weak, sick, or disabled? Don't try to force others to help you by squeezing out a few drops of pee!"

Li Zhenzhen's face turned pale and then flushed after hearing what she said, which was quite a sight!

Xia Wan glanced at her, then returned to her seat amidst the surprised gazes of the crowd.

No one dared to provoke Xia Wan at this moment, and the woman occupying Li Zhenzhen's spot also lowered her head and acted like a quail.

The young man who gave up his seat for Li Zhenzhen stood next to his luggage amidst the mocking or pitying gazes of the crowd, glancing at his seat from time to time, secretly regretting that he hadn't kept his mouth shut!

In the end, he couldn't resist the temptation of the seat and wanted to ask Li Zhenzhen to give it back!

Unfortunately, neither Li Zhenzhen nor the woman who took Li Zhenzhen's place were people he could handle!

There was nothing the young man could do; he considered himself to have some self-respect, so he had no choice but to continue standing next to his luggage!

Xia Wan ignored everyone's stares and continued to admire the scenery outside the window.

"Young lady, how come you're so strong? You can even lift people up?" The old lady sitting diagonally opposite her couldn't help but ask.

She looked up and saw a simply dressed old woman staring at her with curiosity. The old woman was holding a child who was sleeping soundly.

Feeling the curious or surprised looks around her, Xia Wan casually explained, "I've always been stronger than others since I was little. It's just that those two are thin, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to lift them!"

"Oh dear, you brought so little luggage to the countryside! I saw other young comrades carrying big and small bags!"

Upon hearing that she was only strong, the old woman's tone of voice relaxed considerably, and her eyes kept scanning their luggage.

Xia Wan didn't say much, only giving a perfunctory "hmm," as she really had no desire to chat right now.

However, she wanted to rest, but she couldn't resist other people's enthusiasm. After hesitating several times, Huang Qiujie finally spoke up: "Wanwan, I'm sorry, I couldn't stop Li Zhenzhen just now!"

Xia Wan gently shook her head and said dismissively, "It's nothing, it has nothing to do with you. I should thank you for watching my luggage!"

"No, no... no need to thank me, I wasn't really any help!" Huang Qiujie waved his hand somewhat flusteredly.

Xia Wan smiled but didn't say anything, leaning against the car window listening to other people chatting.

The two women with children next to me were chatting quite amiably and started introducing themselves.

The person sitting in Li Zhenzhen's seat is Zhao Cuihua, and the middle-aged woman diagonally opposite her is Liu Hong. Both of them are visiting relatives in Heilongjiang Province!

"Sister Hong, your child is so well-behaved! He's so quiet and doesn't make a fuss at all, it's delightful to see! My son is such a troublemaker, he's been making a racket the whole way!" Zhao Cuihua's voice was full of envy and disdain for her own child!

Looking at the child in her arms, Liu Hong laughed and said, "What boy isn't mischievous? A little mischief is good; a little mischief makes you smart!"

Zhao Cuihua smiled so broadly her eyes disappeared, but she muttered a complaint: "Ugh, so tiring!"

"Come on, Auntie will give you candy, take it!" Liu Hong smiled and took out a White Rabbit milk candy from her pocket to tease the child.

"Oh dear, Sister Hong, don't give it to him. It's a waste for a child to eat it." Zhao Cuihua said this, but she didn't stop him from doing so!

Liu Hong didn't mind at all, and even smiled as she put the candy packet into the child's mouth: "It's okay, all children like to eat candy, my child loves it!"

"Oh my, you can tell from Sister Hong's family that they're well-off. We country folk can't afford White Rabbit milk candy!" Zhao Cuihua said with envy.

Liu Hong shook her head: "I'm also from the countryside, and my family isn't well-off. This candy was given to me by someone else!"

Xia Wan raised an eyebrow, her gaze falling on the child Liu Hong was holding, or more precisely, on the swaddling clothes!

Liu Hong just said her child loves candy, but now she's saying the candy was a gift from someone else, and that her family is from the countryside and can't afford White Rabbit milk candy!

Most importantly, the swaddled baby in the person's arms looks like it's made of fabric that poor families can't afford!

And the child was sleeping so soundly in such a noisy environment.

She wasn't sure if she was overthinking it, but she had a feeling that something was off.

Why did she feel that this was similar to the human traffickers she had heard about before?

The two continued their conversation, with Xia Wan observing Liu Hong discreetly.

Before long, the child in Zhao Cuihua's arms, who had been lively and active, began to doze off.

"Wanwan, could you watch my luggage for me? I need to use the restroom!" Huang Qiujie asked Xia Wan.

Xia Wan, of course, had no reason to refuse: "Okay!"

After all, they just watched my luggage, so it's a good exchange and nothing serious!

"Thank you, Wanwan! I'm going to get some water on my way. Do you need me to bring it back for you?" Huang Qiujie stood up, holding her water cup.

"No need, I'm still keeping my water bottle a secret!" Xia Wan shook her head, her attention focused on the people chatting next to her.

When Huang Qiujie went out, he accidentally bumped into Zhao Cuihua and bumped into the child. Even so, the child did not wake up and did not even make a sound.

Zhao Cuihua was completely unaware of her child's unusual behavior and was chatting amiably with Liu Hong across the table.

A short while later, a man came over and took the child from Liu Hong's arms. She said it was because her husband was worried that she would get tired.

Zhao Cuihua was incredibly envious, constantly praising Liu Hong for being so lucky—her child was so well-behaved, and her husband knew how to cherish her!

“Auntie is truly blessed; this is a child born late in life, isn’t it?” Xia Wan suddenly spoke up, smiling innocently.

Liu Hong's face stiffened for a moment, then she said with a happy expression, "Yes, young lady, you have a good eye! My husband and I were over forty before we had such a son!"

Xia Wan: "..." You two really dare to say that! You're both in pretty good health!

"Oh my, no wonder your older brother dotes on you so much. You're so old and you still gave him a big, healthy son. How could he not love you!"

Whether Xia Wan believed it or not, Zhao Cuihua believed it!
