"Guo Zhen, look at me!" Xia Wan suddenly raised her voice, which became unusually serious and full of unquestionable authority and intimidation.
Startled by the sudden command, Guo Zhen instinctively turned his head, his eyes vacant and lifeless as he looked in the direction where Xia Wan was.
However, upon closer inspection, it becomes apparent that although his eyes are fixed on Xia Wan, they do not seem to reflect her image, as if they are out of focus.
Xia Wan stared intently at Guo Zhen and continued to press, "You actually gave Guo Zhengda's son a slow-acting poison? That's an extremely heinous act!"
Guo Zhen's face remained expressionless, as if his soul had been ripped away. He simply nodded mechanically and replied, "Yes."
Seeing this, Xia Wan quickly moved the mini recorder closer, afraid of missing any important information, and then pressed on, "So what kind of poison did you give him? Tell me everything you know about poisons!"
Guo Zhen's eyes became somewhat unfocused, as if he were lost in deep memories.
Time ticked by, and after a long while, he slowly spoke, "Secret... medicine... to... kill off... one's offspring!"
Upon hearing this answer, Xia Wan couldn't help but show a hint of joy on her face, thinking to herself: It really is such a vicious poison. Now there is enough evidence to make Guo Zheng submit.
Pressing her advantage, she asked again, "Since there is such a poison, there must be an antidote, right? Where is the antidote hidden?"
However, Guo Zhen seemed to have exhausted all his strength, shaking his head, his voice much weaker than before: "The...antidote...is...not...available..."
No sooner had he finished speaking than he closed his eyes, his body suddenly leaned forward, and he slammed onto the hospital bed with a dull thud before fainting.
Xia Wan frowned slightly and muttered to herself, "How could this guy faint so quickly? I thought I could get more useful information out of him, but it seems his mental fortitude is nothing special."
Fortunately, he had obtained all the key information he needed to ask. As long as he showed the recording to Guo Zheng, he figured Guo Zheng would no longer be so devoted to the Guo family!
With that thought in mind, Xia Wan quickly packed her things and left the hospital.
She walked briskly along the way, heading straight towards the steel plant.
When she finally arrived at her destination, after some searching, she found Guo Zhengzheng in a dilapidated warehouse, sitting with several shady-looking men drinking heartily.
"You're Guo Zheng? How did you become such a useless piece of trash?" Xia Wan stood gracefully at the warehouse entrance, her delicate face now filled with sarcasm.
She crossed her arms and coldly sized up the drunken, disheveled man in front of her.
Guo Zheng groggily lifted his heavy head and struggled to open his alcohol-numbed eyes.
When he finally saw the person in front of him clearly, a look of confusion and bewilderment appeared on his face: "Who...who are you? What do you want with me?"
As he spoke, he swayed as he tried to stand up, but ultimately failed and fell back down onto the ground.
Guo Zheng has been having an exceptionally difficult time lately.
He was once deeply trusted by his master and enjoyed great prestige; but now, his master's attitude towards him has changed drastically, and he is no longer entrusted with important responsibilities as before.
To make matters worse, the master even sent a young master to monitor his every move, and this young master seemed to harbor deep hostility towards him, setting up obstacles for him at every turn and making his work extremely difficult.
With nowhere else to turn, Guo Zheng had no choice but to associate with this group of shady thugs.
In truth, he knew that doing so would damage his reputation, but in order to protect his wife and children from the young master's harassment, he had no other choice but to resort to this tactic.
He thought that if the young master saw him in such a wretched and useless state, he might lower the other party's guard and let his family go.
Just then, the group of thugs who had been sitting around drinking and playing cards noticed Xia Wan.
They all put down what they were holding, stared intently at Xia Wan, and kept making sounds of amazement.
"Wow, this girl is really pretty! Zheng, why don't you introduce her to the brothers?" one of the thugs with dyed yellow hair said excitedly.
Another bald thug chimed in, "Yeah, Zheng, I never expected you, who usually seems so honest, to know such a beautiful girl! You're really hiding your true colors!"
A thug in a floral shirt standing nearby said enviously, "What do you guys know? Brother Zheng has a respectable job, unlike us who idle around all day. No wonder we can't meet beauties like him!"
Finally, everyone turned their attention to Guo Zheng and urged him all at once, "Brother Zheng, hurry up and ask the girl what she wants from you!"
Xia Wan walked into the warehouse, ignoring the voices of the thugs, and looked at Guo Zhengdao: "Who I am is not important. What's important is that I know some of your secrets, such as who Guo Zhen and his son are..."
Guo Zheng's previously flushed cheeks suddenly turned pale, as if the effects of the alcohol had dissipated considerably. He stared wide-eyed at Xia Wan, and shouted urgently with a hint of annoyance, "What exactly do you want to say? Stop beating around the bush!"
