Chapter 115: An Unexpected Incident

Chapter 115: An Unexpected Incident

Hearing Xu Qiaofeng's voice, Ning Tang was still feeling scared, so she quickly got up and put on a coat.

She tiptoed to the door.

Open the door.

Xu Qiaofeng stood outside the corridor, his brows slightly furrowed, his eyes bloodshot, a stark contrast to his usual composed demeanor.

"What's wrong? Why aren't you asleep yet, it's so late?"

Ning Tang pulled him aside and closed the door behind her, afraid of waking Wang Yingying, who was fast asleep inside.

Xu Qiaofeng held her hand and felt the sweat on her palm; his expression froze.

He said, "I just woke up."

"I've been feeling uneasy, so I came to see you."

Xu Qiaofeng paused for a moment, then softened his voice.

"Didn't you sleep well either? Your face is so pale."

Ning Tang then realized that she wasn't the only one who was feeling uneasy tonight.

She pulled Xu Qiaofeng to sit on the bench by the corridor.

"I just had a nightmare, I dreamt about our child..."

The words were on the tip of my tongue when my heart clenched suddenly.

The child's sharp yet pitiful cries echoed in my ears again in my dream.

Ning Tang paused for a moment, then continued, "In my dream, a dark shadow pounced on me. I was holding the child and couldn't dodge it. It felt like I was frozen in place."

Xu Qiaofeng's body stiffened abruptly.

He unconsciously tightened his grip on Ning Tang's hand.

Ning Tang noticed his unusual behavior and looked up at him: "What's wrong?"

"I also had a dream."

Xu Qiaofeng's voice was low and deep, with an almost imperceptible chill.

"I dreamt that you lost your footing on the stairs and fell. I ran over to help you, but I couldn't reach you no matter what I did..."

Xu Qiaofeng didn't finish his sentence.

But the lingering fear in his eyes betrayed his true feelings.

Both nightmares revolved around the baby in my womb.

Such a coincidence is truly unsettling.

Hearing Xu Qiaofeng's words, Ning Tang's heart sank.

She took a deep breath, reached out and touched Xu Qiaofeng's brow, and said softly, "It's all just a dream, don't take it seriously."

"We'll stay here another day tomorrow, and then we can go back tonight."

"If you keep looking so gloomy, when your grandparents see you at home, it will seem like something really happened."

Xu Qiaofeng forced out a reassuring smile.

But he couldn't calm down so easily.

The man placed Ning Tang's hand on his chest, the warmth of his palm seeping through the fabric.

Xu Qiaofeng said very seriously, "Tomorrow I will follow you closely, and no matter where we go, you must not leave my sight."

He knew that what he said was a bit too frightening and too extreme.

But when I think of the scenes in my dream, I dare not relax for even a moment.

Ning Tang looked at the seriousness in Xu Qiaofeng's eyes and nodded gently: "Okay, I'll do whatever you say."

The two sat for a while longer before Xu Qiaofeng got up to leave, afraid of disturbing Ning Tang's rest.

Before leaving, he made a point of checking the doors and windows, and then instructed Ning Tang: "If you still can't sleep, knock on the wall. I'm right next door."

Ning Tang smiled and agreed, and only lay back down on the bed after he left.

Perhaps knowing that Xu Qiaofeng was next door, or perhaps because she had voiced her anxieties, she didn't have nightmares this time and slept soundly until dawn.

When Wang Yingying woke up the next morning.

Seeing that Ning Tang had finished getting ready, but her face was still a little pale, he teased, "What's wrong? Did you meet with Xu Qiaofeng and chat too late last night and didn't sleep well?"

Ning Tang didn't mention the nightmare, but just smiled and changed the subject: "No, I was just a little excited because I'm going to the hospital for my last round of ward rounds today."

Hearing this, Wang Yingying smiled and poked her arm: "You're so enthusiastic. But then again, we can go home after today's rounds, so we should be happy."

After the two finished washing up and went downstairs, Xu Qiaofeng was already waiting with breakfast.

The porridge was warm, and the steamed buns were still steaming.

He specially chose the vegetable filling that Ning Tang liked, in case she had a poor appetite during her pregnancy.

"Eat something to tide you over first, then we'll go to the hospital together."

Xu Qiaofeng handed the porridge to Ning Tang, his gaze falling on her lower abdomen, and he couldn't help but give her some advice.

"There will be a lot of people checking on you later, so stay close to your colleagues and don't go too far forward."

Ning Tang knew he still remembered last night's nightmare, so she nodded obediently: "Don't worry, I won't be stubborn."

When we arrived at the hospital, Dean Gou was already waiting for us in his office.

Seeing them arrive, he smiled and said, "After checking on the patients in beds 302 and 401 today, we can wrap things up. The patient in bed 302 has a long history of stomach problems and is recovering well. The patient in bed 401 is a child who just recovered from a fever, but the parents are very protective of him, so please be mindful of your tone."

Ning Tang agreed and followed Dean Gou and Wang Yingying to the ward.

We checked bed 302 first. The elderly person was very cooperative, answering all our questions, and the checkup was completed quickly.

When I arrived at bed 401, I had just opened the door when I heard a child crying inside.

The little boy on the hospital bed, about five years old, was rolling around on the floor, clutching a glass marble in his hand, shouting, "I don't want a shot! I want candy!"

The child's mother, a woman wearing a floral shirt, was squatting on the ground, trying to soothe him.

"Sweetie, be good, Mommy will buy you candy after you get your shot."

Upon seeing Ning Tang and the others enter, the woman's patience vanished instantly. She frowned and asked, "What are you doing here? Didn't we just do a room check?"

Dean Gou stepped forward and said gently, "Let's check the child's temperature and listen to his heart and lungs. Once we confirm there are no problems, he can be discharged."

The woman wouldn't listen, blocking the bedside: "No need to check! My child is perfectly fine, the fever stopped yesterday, you just want to overcharge!"

Ning Tang frowned and patiently explained, "Big sister, the child's fever has just subsided, and a heart and lung checkup is very important. If there is still inflammation, it may recur when we get home."

"Don't try to fool me!" The woman glared at Ning Tang.

"My child is perfectly healthy, there's no need for you to make things difficult for him! Besides, you're a young doctor, do you even know how to treat patients? Don't harm my child!"

These words angered Wang Yingying: "Sister, we followed the procedures exactly, and it was all for the child's good. Even Dean Gou acknowledges Dr. Ning's medical skills, how can you say such a thing?"

The woman became even more agitated and reached out to shove Wang Yingying: "What's it to you! I think you're all in cahoots, trying to scam me out of my money!"

Ning Tang quickly stepped forward to pull Wang Yingying away, fearing that the two would get into a conflict.

But as soon as she took a step forward, the little boy who had been rolling on the ground suddenly got up.

He rushed towards Ning Tang, shouting, "Don't bully my mom!"

He ran so fast and fast that he bumped right into Ning Tang's lower abdomen.

With a muffled thud, Ning Tang felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen.

She staggered back two steps, but fortunately Xu Qiaofeng reacted quickly and caught her from behind.

"Tangtang!" Xu Qiaofeng's voice changed instantly.

The hand supporting Ning Tang was trembling, and his eyes were fixed on the little boy, filled with both anxiety and anger.

How could you hit someone like that!

Seeing this, the woman not only didn't apologize, but rushed forward to protect the child, hands on her hips, shouting, "Why are you yelling at me! What does a little kid know! She lost her balance herself, what does it have to do with my child!"

Dean Gou was also anxious and stepped forward to check on Ning Tang's condition: "Ning Tang, how are you? Does your stomach hurt? Is there any bleeding?"

Ning Tang leaned against Xu Qiaofeng's chest, the pain in her lower abdomen growing more and more intense.

Cold sweat instantly beaded on her forehead. She gritted her teeth and shook her head: "It's alright... let's check on the baby first..."

Before she could finish speaking, she felt a warm liquid flowing out between her legs.

Her heart sank, and her face turned deathly pale.

Xu Qiaofeng looked down and saw the bloodstains on her trouser leg. His eyes reddened, and he picked up Ning Tang and ran outside, shouting, "Dean Gou, quick! Get her to the emergency room!"

Dean Gou panicked and quickly followed, leaving Wang Yingying to argue with the mother and son.

"You've gone too far! Dr. Ning is pregnant, how could you let your child hit her!" Wang Yingying trembled with anger. "Now that something has happened to her, you must take responsibility!"

When the woman saw that Ning Tang was actually bleeding, she panicked a little, but still stubbornly insisted, "It was her own carelessness, it has nothing to do with us!"

The little boy was so frightened that he started crying, "Mommy, I didn't mean to... I didn't want to hit her..."

Wang Yingying stopped arguing with them and ran towards the emergency room.

When the red light in the emergency room came on, Xu Qiaofeng's heart almost stopped.

He clenched his fists tightly, his eyes fixed on the closed door, as if trying to see through it.

Dean Gou stood beside him, patted him on the shoulder, and spoke in a reassuring tone.

"Don't panic, Ning Tang is in good health, the baby will be fine. The obstetricians at this hospital are very experienced, they will definitely be able to save the baby."

Xu Qiaofeng nodded, but couldn't utter a single word.

The scene kept replaying in my mind.

The moment the little boy rushed over, Ning Tang staggered backward, her trouser leg stained with glaring blood.

He hated himself for not being quicker, and hated himself for not taking the dream seriously even though he had it last night.

Even more, she feared losing her unborn child and seeing the despair in Ning Tang's eyes.

Not long after, Wang Yingying ran over.

"I've already notified the hospital's security department. The mother and child have been taken away, and they will definitely give Ning Tang an explanation!"

Xu Qiaofeng's Adam's apple bobbed, and he said hoarsely, "Thank you."

His mind was completely occupied by Ning Tang, and even expressing his gratitude seemed somewhat powerless.

Time passed by, second by second.

Every second felt like torture.

The emergency room door finally opened, and an obstetrician in a white coat came out, taking off her mask.

Xu Qiaofeng, Dean Gou, and Wang Yingying immediately surrounded them.

"Doctor, how is my wife? Did we save the baby?"

Xu Qiaofeng grabbed the doctor's arm, his tone so urgent that he seemed somewhat out of control.

The doctor patted his hand, signaling him to calm down: "Don't get agitated, the patient's condition has stabilized for now. There were signs of threatened miscarriage, but fortunately she was brought in in time, and we have already given her medication to prevent miscarriage."

"However, the baby is still young, and the next 48 hours are critical and require hospitalization for observation. If there is no further bleeding and the abdominal pain subsides during this period, the baby should be able to be saved."

Hearing that the situation is temporarily stable, there is hope that it can be saved.

Xu Qiaofeng's anxiety finally eased.

He breathed a sigh of relief, his back instantly soaked with cold sweat, and he staggered and almost fell, but fortunately Dean Gou caught him.

"Thank you, doctor! Thank you!"

Xu Qiaofeng thanked the doctor repeatedly.

His voice trembled with the shock of surviving a disaster.

The doctor nodded: "The patient needs to rest now. Family members can go in to stay with her, but be careful not to upset her and talk to her to reassure her."

Xu Qiaofeng nodded quickly and strode into the emergency room.

Ning Tang lay on the hospital bed, her face as pale as a sheet of paper.

Her eyes were closed, and long eyelashes were still wet with tears, as if she had been in too much pain during the surgery.

He walked to the bedside and gently took her hand.

Her hands were cold and trembling slightly.

"Tangtang, I'm here." Xu Qiaofeng's voice was very soft, afraid of waking her.

But I also wanted her to know that I was there for her.

Ning Tang slowly opened her eyes.

Seeing Xu Qiaofeng, tears welled up in my eyes again.

"Qiaofeng, the child...is the child still alive?"

Her voice was extremely weak.

It makes one wonder if speaking any louder would cause her to faint from exhaustion.

"Yes, the child is still here."

Xu Qiaofeng helped her wipe away her tears.

"The doctor said that as long as you rest well and don't overthink things, the baby will be safe and sound. Our baby is very strong, he won't leave us."

Ning Tang looked at the bloodshot eyes in Xu Qiaofeng's eyes and knew that he must have been terrified.

She nodded gently and said earnestly, "I'll listen to you. I'll rest well and I'll definitely protect our baby."

Dean Gou and Wang Yingying also came in.

Dean Gou looked at Ning Tang and said gently, "Ning Tang, don't worry about your health. I've made all the arrangements at the hospital. I've reserved the best single room for you, and the nurses will come to check on you regularly. Don't worry about work."

Wang Yingying chimed in, "Yes, Ning Tang, take good care of yourself. I'll come to see you every day!"

Ning Tang looked at them gratefully: "Thank you, Dean, thank you, Yingying. I'm sorry to have troubled you."

"Don't be so polite with us." Dean Gou smiled. "You should rest well, we won't bother you any longer. Qiaofeng, feel free to contact me if you need anything."

Xu Qiaofeng saw them out.

When I returned, I saw that Ning Tang had already closed her eyes.

But he was still frowning, as if he was in a lot of pain.

After a while, Ning Tang woke up again.

She looked at Xu Qiaofeng and said, "Qiaofeng, I'm a little hungry."

Xu Qiaofeng nodded quickly: "I'll go buy you something to eat right away. What would you like to eat? Millet porridge? Or soft noodles?"

"Millet porridge, please, and a boiled egg too," Ning Tang said softly.

Xu Qiaofeng immediately stood up: "Okay, I'll be right back. Don't move around, just lie still."

He walked to the door and then looked back at Ning Tang.

Only after confirming that she was alright did he quickly leave.

There was a state-run restaurant not far from the hospital. It wasn't very crowded in the morning. Xu Qiaofeng had only been out for a short while when he returned with a lunchbox full of millet porridge.

He hadn't even reached the door yet.

From a great distance, you could see a mother and child acting suspiciously outside the corridor.

It was the brat and his parents who had just bumped into Ning Tang!

Xu Qiaofeng's face immediately darkened, and he strode over.

His tone was icy cold, like frozen snow: "What are you doing here?"

The woman looked away when she saw Xu Qiaofeng.

She then forced herself to remain calm and pulled the little boy next to her to move aside.

"We...we just came to check on how the doctor is doing, since my child accidentally bumped into her."

"Accidentally?" Xu Qiaofeng sneered.

His gaze swept over the little boy hiding behind the woman, too afraid to look up.

"You didn't say that in the ward just now. Now you've come to check on her again. Are you worried she's alright, or are you afraid we'll make you pay compensation?"
