Chapter 116: Those who reap what they sow

Chapter 116: Those who reap what they sow

Xu Qiaofeng exposed the woman's little secret, and her face instantly turned from black to red.

She stiffened her neck, then, remembering the purpose of her visit, her eyes darted around, and she still stubbornly said, "What do you mean by that? We came here sincerely to visit you, don't be ungrateful!"

The woman reached out and pushed the little boy forward.

“Just look at my child. He knows he was wrong. He just told me he wanted to apologize to the doctor. How can you be so sarcastic towards a child?”

The little boy almost fell over when his mother pushed him.

She raised her head in dissatisfaction, wanting to curse, but remembering her mother's instructions before she came, she could only pretend to look pitiful as she raised her head.

When she saw Xu Qiaofeng's frightening eyes, she was genuinely terrified, her gaze darting away, unable to meet his eyes.

"Brother...I'm sorry..."

The voice was so soft it was barely audible; it was clearly forced out of her, not her true feelings.

Seeing this scene, Xu Qiaofeng's anger intensified.

He clenched his fists, his tense face looking terrifying because of his bad mood.

Thinking of his identity, he tried his best to maintain the last bit of rationality and restraint.

"There's no need for a genuine visit."

"My wife needs to rest now and doesn't want to be disturbed."

"As for the apology, you should save that for the security department."

After speaking, Xu Qiaofeng stepped aside, his tone cold, as if it were ice.

"Now, please leave and don't block the way."

"you!"

The woman was furious with Xu Qiaofeng's attitude and immediately lost her temper.

Ignoring everything and showing no concern that this was a hospital, he stood with his hands on his hips and started shouting loudly.

She roared, "How can you be so unreasonable? It's just a bump!"

"The person is alright now, and the child has apologized. What more do you want? Do you want us to pay you money? Let me tell you, we don't have any money!"

The woman came from the countryside.

His voice was typically high-pitched and loud, immediately attracting the attention of patients and nurses in the surrounding wards.

Xu Qiaofeng was afraid that the noise would disturb Ning Tang, who was resting in the ward, so he took a deep breath and suppressed his anger.

He stepped forward and said coldly, "I'll say it one last time: leave here, or I'll go find the security department right now."

The woman saw that Xu Qiaofeng's attitude was resolute.

Looking around at the onlookers, he felt somewhat insecure and apprehensive.

She glared fiercely at Xu Qiaofeng, then grabbed her son and turned to leave.

He even muttered to himself under his breath.

What kind of person is this? They hold onto such a small thing. They're really unlucky. I'll definitely check the almanac next time I go out.

Xu Qiaofeng watched the mother and son's figures disappear in front of him.

After calming down for a long time, she turned around and walked quickly into the ward.

When the door was opened, Ning Tang was leaning against the headboard.

She looked at the doorway with some worry in her eyes, and only relaxed when she saw him come in.

"Was there an argument outside just now? I think I heard your voice."

"No, it was just two family members who were passing by talking a little too loudly." Xu Qiaofeng quickly put the lunchbox on the bedside table and walked over with a smile to help her adjust the pillow.

"Hurry up and drink some porridge while it's hot. I specially asked the restaurant to cook it a little longer, so it's very soft and sticky."

He opened the lunchbox, and the aroma of millet porridge filled the air. He scooped up a spoonful, blew on it to cool it down, and then offered it to Ning Tang's lips.

Ning Tang sipped her porridge, her eyes fixed on Xu Qiaofeng's face.

Seeing the weariness hidden in his eyes, along with the lingering anger, I understood a bit more.

She gently grasped Xu Qiaofeng's hand: "Did that mother and son come to cause trouble again?"

Xu Qiaofeng paused, then shook his head: "No, I just ran into them, said a few words and left. Don't think about these things, eating well and taking care of your health is the most important thing."

He didn't want Ning Tang to worry about these things anymore; he just wanted her to focus on recovering.

Seeing that he was unwilling to say more, Ning Tang did not press him further. She obediently finished a bowl of porridge and ate half a boiled egg, then felt a little sleepy.

Xu Qiaofeng helped her cover herself with the blanket, and after watching Ning Tang close her eyes and fall asleep, he quietly left the ward to wash her lunchbox.

In the afternoon, the security personnel came to see Xu Qiaofeng.

They said the mother and son refused to pay compensation and insisted that it was Ning Tang's own carelessness. They have made a record of this and will follow up later.

Xu Qiaofeng knew that there was no point in getting entangled with such people, and he just hoped that they would stop bothering Ning Tang.

So I asked the security guards to keep a close eye on them and prevent the mother and child from getting close to the ward again.

By evening, Ning Tang woke up, feeling somewhat better.

Xu Qiaofeng thought that she hadn't been active all day, so he helped her walk slowly around the ward.

Later, Ning Tang said she wanted to eat some sweet milk candy, so Xu Qiaofeng took his wallet and went to the supply and marketing cooperative at the entrance of the hospital to buy some.

Before leaving, I made a point of telling the nurses to keep a close eye on the situation in the ward.

Not long after Xu Qiaofeng left, the ward door was gently pushed open a crack.

The woman peeked in and saw that Ning Tang was the only one lying in bed in the ward, so she pulled the little boy in and walked in, closing the door behind her.

Hearing the noise, Ning Tang looked up and saw the mother and child who had bumped into her that morning. She immediately frowned and asked, "How did you get in? Didn't the nurse stop you?"

The woman walked to the bedside with an unnatural smile on her face.

“We just told the nurses we were here to see you, and they let us in. Dr. Ning, you seem to be alright now, so let’s just forget about what happened this morning. My child is still young and doesn’t understand, so please be magnanimous and don’t hold it against him.”

Ning Tang felt uncomfortable looking at the woman's matter-of-fact attitude.

Leaning against the headboard, she said calmly, "I'm not blaming the child. It's understandable that the child is young and doesn't understand things. But as a parent, you should know that when a child does something wrong, the first thing to do is to admit the mistake, not to shirk responsibility."

“This morning in the ward, you not only didn’t apologize, but you also said we were just trying to make more money, and you even pushed my colleague. Don’t you remember any of that?”

"I...I was just in a hurry!"

The woman felt a little guilty after Ning Tang's words, and her eyes darted away.

"I was worried about my child, afraid that you would do something to him, so I said those things in a moment of impulse. Dr. Ning, please don't take it to heart, it's all a misunderstanding."

"Misunderstanding?" Ning Tang looked at the woman and gently shook her head.

"I'm now experiencing threatened miscarriage due to the impact of your child and need to be hospitalized for observation. Is this also a misunderstanding? If I hadn't been caught in time, the consequences would have been unimaginable. Have you thought about these things?"

Seeing that Ning Tang wouldn't budge, the woman's smile disappeared, and her tone became somewhat impatient.

"It's just a few days in the hospital, right? The doctor said you're fine, and the baby is safe. What more do you want? Do you expect us to pay your medical bills? Let me tell you, we're not well-off; we don't have that much money to pay you! Besides, my child didn't do it on purpose. You can't keep harping on us over such a small thing, can you?"

As she spoke, she pulled the little boy next to her and squeezed his arm hard.

"Quickly, apologize to Auntie again and tell her not to be angry."

The little boy was pinched so hard by his mother that his eyes reddened and tears started to fall.

She choked back tears and said, "Auntie... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to..."

Ning Tang felt no pity for the little boy's aggrieved expression, but she disliked the woman's unreasonable attitude even more.

She took a deep breath, her tone still calm but thick with smoke.

"I don't need any compensation from you. I just hope you can take this matter seriously, give me and my colleagues a sincere apology, and that the police will get involved."

“The child is still young, and your every word and action will influence him. If you keep shirking responsibility, it will only help him develop wrong values, which will not be good for his future growth.”

"Stop lecturing me!"

The woman was enraged by Ning Tang's words, and her voice rose several decibels.

"How I raise my child is none of your business! You're just a doctor, what's so great about you! I think you're just deliberately picking a fight to extort money from us!"

Her voice grew louder and louder, making Ning Tang feel dizzy and causing a dull ache in her lower abdomen.

She frowned, pressed her hand to her lower abdomen, and her face instantly turned pale: "Stop arguing... I'm not feeling well right now, you should leave..."

"I'm not leaving! I won't go until you forgive us!"

Seeing Ning Tang's bad expression, the woman not only didn't restrain herself, but instead became even more demanding.

"Let me tell you, if you dare to ask us for compensation, I'll cause a scene at the hospital entrance and let everyone know that you, a doctor, are bullying ordinary people like us!"

The woman's voice was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

It's so sharp it could practically tear a person's eardrum apart.

Ning Tang felt a throbbing sensation in her temples.

The lower abdominal pain is becoming more and more pronounced.

Just then, with a bang, the ward door was suddenly pushed open, and Wang Yingying rushed in carrying a thermos.

As soon as I entered the door, I heard the woman's tantrum, and my temper flared up instantly.

"what's wrong with you?!"

Wang Yingying placed the thermos on the bedside table, rolled up her sleeves, and walked up to the woman, blocking Ning Tang's bedside.

"This is a hospital ward! What are you trying to do, yelling like that? Are you trying to bully the patient?"

The woman was startled by Wang Yingying's sudden intrusion.

He subconsciously took a half step back, then stubbornly retorted.

"What's it to you if I'm talking to Dr. Ning? Mind your own business!"

"Am I meddling in other people's business?"

Wang Yingying sneered, her eyes sweeping over the woman's hand that was tightly gripping the child.

“This morning in bed 401, you pushed me and accused us of trying to scam money. Now you’ve come here to harass Ning Tang and even threatened to cause trouble at the hospital entrance.”

"You call this talking to her? I think you're just deliberately trying to cause trouble!"

The woman's face darkened further after being touched on a sensitive spot, and she reached out to push Wang Yingying.

"Don't make false accusations! I'm here to apologize, but you won't accept it!"

Wang Yingying was prepared and dodged her hand by turning to the side, then gently supported her to the side.

The woman lost her balance and stumbled, almost hitting the edge of the bed, but luckily she caught herself in time to avoid falling.

She was both shocked and angry, and was about to lash out when she heard Ning Tang's voice coming from behind her.

The woman's tone was calm but tinged with coldness: "Yingying, don't confront her directly. Be careful."

Wang Yingying turned around and saw Ning Tang leaning against the headboard, her face pale but her eyes bright.

She immediately felt reassured, but deliberately complained, "But she bullied you! And you're telling me to be careful?"

Ning Tang twitched the corners of her mouth, her gaze falling on the woman, and slowly said, "It's not that you should give in to her, it's that you shouldn't hurt yourself. If she makes another move, push her against the inside of her elbow."

"There are many nerves there, so the pain is intense but leaves no marks. Also, the inside of the wrist, if you pinch it, it will numb for half a day, and you can't see anything."

Upon hearing this, not only was the woman stunned, but even Wang Yingying blinked in surprise.

She hadn't expected that Ning Tang, who was usually so gentle, would actually know these things.

After realizing what had happened, the woman was both frightened and angry. She instinctively hid the child behind her back, her voice trembling slightly: "You...you're instigating someone to beat someone up! I'm going to sue you!"

"Sue us?"

Ning Tang raised an eyebrow, her tone laced with sarcasm, "Think about it first. This morning you pushed my colleague, obstructing our ward rounds. This afternoon you barged into the ward and harassed me, a pregnant woman, and even threatened to cause trouble."

"If the police were to judge this, whose fault would it be?"

Ning Tang paused, then reached out and touched her lower abdomen, her eyes growing even colder.

“I’m pregnant right now, and because of the impact your child caused, I’m experiencing threatened miscarriage. The doctor said I need to rest in bed. If you keep making a scene here, and something happens to me, do you think you can get away with it?”

The woman was terrified by Ning Tang's words.

Although she was unreasonable, she knew that if something happened to a pregnant woman, it was no small matter, and if it really got to the police, she would definitely not get away with it.

But she couldn't bring herself to apologize, so she could only stand there, her face turning pale and then red.

Seeing that the woman had lost her previous arrogance, Wang Yingying seized the opportunity to speak.

"I've already called the security department, they'll be here soon. If you know what's good for you, apologize to Ning Tang right now, and then obediently go with the security personnel. Don't end up being dragged out later, losing face and getting nothing in return!"

The woman was so frightened by these words that she almost couldn't stand up.

If her husband finds out that he went to the city and caused a huge problem when he gets back, he'll definitely beat her to death.

Thinking of this, the woman grabbed her child and hurriedly ran to the door.

It felt like there were man-eating wolves or hounds behind us.

The little boy stumbled as he was pulled and almost fell.

He was dissatisfied and yelled at the woman, telling her to slow down.

The woman wouldn't listen to anything; all she could think about was being beaten and she just wanted to leave as quickly as possible.

The two had just rushed out of the ward when they bumped into a nurse's cart at the corner of the corridor.

Disinfectant bottles spilled all over the floor.

The woman ignored everything and continued running forward, dragging her child along.

At the end of the corridor was the staircase leading to the first floor. She wasn't looking where she was going, and she stumbled, falling headlong towards the stairwell with the child in her arms.

"ah--"

The woman's scream shattered the silence of the corridor.

She instinctively tried to grab the handrail, but in her panic, she only grasped at air.

His body slammed heavily against the stair steps and he rolled down.

The little boy, held tightly by her, also fell down, and a clear cry rang out instantly.

Wang Yingying, who was comforting Ning Tang in the ward, heard the scream and her heart skipped a beat. She quickly got up and ran to the door.

Several nurses and patients' family members were gathered at the stairwell.

The woman was curled up on the landing in the middle of the stairs, clutching her knees and whimpering, while the little boy sat on the ground crying incessantly, with beads of blood seeping from his forehead.

He showed no trace of his confident demeanor from just moments before.

Wang Yingying saw this and a smile appeared on her lips.

Tsk tsk tsk, this kind of person, they brought this upon themselves.
