"Girl, you don't need to comfort me. I know what to do."
With tears still on her face, Luo Xiujuan said earnestly, "Although I am illiterate, I know about morality and righteousness. If he were not married, I would naturally argue with him and complain about him. But now that he is married and has children, with an innocent wife and daughter, I should not hurt them, no matter how unwilling I am."
She is reasonable.
Ye Yun remained noncommittal, then turned her head and saw Xun Xiangbin's stunned figure at the door.
Xun Xiangbin, who had been called over by Qin Zheng, finally couldn't resist coming to find Luo Xiujuan. As soon as he reached the door, he heard her words, which made him freeze in place.
He stared intently at Luo Xiujuan, and murmured in a trembling voice, "Xiaojuan, let me explain..."
Luo Xiujuan was also taken aback.
Unexpectedly, Xun Xiangbin suddenly appeared. She was slightly surprised, but only for a moment. She pulled Xiao Hai into her arms and said in a tone that was obviously distant, "There's nothing to explain. You're married and have a daughter. It's over between us."
"Hey sis, I'm going to go see when your older sister is coming back."
After she finished speaking, she pulled Xiao Hai up, not daring to look at Xun Xiangbin even once, afraid that if she looked at him, she would lose control of the longing and pain that had been building up for five years, and lose control of her emotions that would burst forth.
Luo Xiujuan, holding Xiao Hai's hand, hurriedly brushed past Xun Xiangbin, who was standing at the door.
Xun Xiangbin's figure swayed slightly.
Even though Luo Xiujuan didn't bump into him, he felt like he had lost all his strength and couldn't stand up. He couldn't use his cane properly and only managed to stand up after bumping into the door frame behind him.
He looked outside.
Luo Xiujuan and her child, one big and one small, gradually walked away from his sight.
The old lady he had his eye on started cracking melon seeds.
Despite having lost half his teeth, he was now cracking sunflower seeds with great enthusiasm, his eyes occasionally glancing at Xun Xiangbin by the door.
Even her blindness couldn't stop her from wanting to watch the excitement.
The old lady's sneaky way of eating melon was really funny. Ye Yun really wanted to laugh, but it seemed a bit unethical to laugh out loud in front of Xun Xiangbin, the protagonist.
She straightened the old lady's quilt and raised her voice to say, "Grandma, you rest, I'm going to check on Qin Zheng and the others!"
"Walk."
The old lady waved her hand with great force.
Ye Yun smiled wryly, "Grandma, why are you in such a hurry to send me away? Don't you recognize me?"
"Huh...you're saying that again."
The old lady slowly divided the melon seeds in her hand, gave half to Ye Yun, pointed to Xun Xiangbin at the door, and waved to Ye Yun, gesturing for her to leave.
Ye Yun held a handful of melon seeds, bewildered.
The old lady clicked her tongue when she saw that she didn't understand, patted her little hand, and whispered, "Child... go out and ask around, I want to hear it."
Ye Yun: ...
Unexpected.
The elderly lady was surprisingly eager to gossip, even resorting to cold insults to drive her away, just so she could find out what was going on and have some juicy gossip to share with her when she returned.
Ye Yun raised an eyebrow.
Alright, you just wait and see.
Nodding to the old lady, Ye Yun got up and walked outside, glancing at Xun Xiangbin at the door as she stepped out.
Xun Xiangbin leaned against the door frame, looking utterly dejected, pushing the curtain aside.
The winter wind is like an ice scalpel; without a curtain, it howls into the house. How can the elderly stand it?
"Excuse me." Ye Yun pointed to the curtain behind Xun Xiangbin, her gaze indifferent.
Xun Xiangbin seemed to snap out of his daze. Seeing Ye Yun's indifferent expression, he pursed his lips and remained silent, quietly making way for her.
As soon as he opened it, the heavy curtain fell down by itself.
Ye Yun quickly tidied up the curtain, folding up the corners to ensure no drafts would get into the old lady's room, before turning to leave.
"Director Ye."
Suddenly a shout came from behind.
Ye Yun turned around and saw Xun Xiangbin staring at her with a look of utter disbelief.
Xun Xiangbin's eyes were bloodshot with fatigue, and his gaze was empty, as if all his energy had been drained away. When he spoke, his voice was hoarse as he asked, "Director Ye, do you think I still have a chance?"
ah?
Ye Yun frowned. Something about that sentence didn't sound right.
Don't ask me.
Without hesitation, Ye Yun gave the safest answer and strode off to find Qin Zheng.
*Sobbing*
That sentence was terrifying.
...
Luo Xiujuan did not return to the Qin family home that night. After picking up Qin Xiang'e at the village entrance, she took Qin Xiang'e's bicycle and then took Xiao Hai to Wangshanlou.
There are people living in Wangshan Tower. She and Xiaohai will stay in Wangshan Tower for the night, borrowing two quilts.
She also mentioned when she would go home again.
After Xun Xiangbin left.
She didn't want to see Xun Xiangbin again and was determined to cut ties with him completely.
Upon hearing the news brought back by Qin Xiang'e, Xun Xiangbin nearly fainted. He then buried his face in his hands and wept bitterly at the octagonal table in the main room, pounding his fists on the table with a loud thud.
Ye Yun felt sorry for the table.
These are all old tools left by Qin Zheng's ancestors; it would be such a pity if they were broken.
Qin Zheng and she shared the same thoughts.
He chopped Xun Xiangbin on the back of the head with a single chop, knocking him unconscious and rendering him completely unconscious.
So here's the question.
Old Qin's house isn't big enough for everyone.
There were only two rooms in the house that could be lived in. The main room was for Qin Zheng and Ye Yun, and the west room had two female relatives. Lao Gao and Xun Xiangbin naturally had nowhere to live.
Old Gao kicked the stool next to him, nonchalantly saying, "Just find a wooden board to put on top of it, and we'll make do for one night."
How can that be allowed?
Qin Zheng was not happy. It was too presumptuous of him to ask someone to sleep on a wooden plank when it was their first time visiting.
