Old Gao remained completely unconcerned, waving his hand dismissively and telling Qin Zheng to do whatever he wanted.
Anyway, he doesn't sleep anywhere else. Sleeping anywhere is still sleeping, lying down is still lying down. He even slept on an open-air construction site when he was working hard!
And what about Xun Xiangbin? He's paid to stay in a hotel, does he even deserve it?
At Lao Gao's insistence, and because Xun Xiangbin was too dizzy to move, Qin Zheng had no choice but to let them stay at his home.
After finishing their meal, Qin Zheng mentioned to Ye Yun that he wanted to renovate the family's ancestral home.
“There aren’t many people in the family now, but it won’t be big enough when we have guests or when our baby is born. How about we build the house before the baby is born?”
Sure.
Ye Yun chuckled, "I have no objection, but if we're building a new house, does that mean we have to demolish the old house we live in now?"
"How can we renovate if we don't promote it?"
Qin Zheng scratched the back of his head, glanced at the house he lived in, and said with a hint of melancholy, "Although I also think it's a pity to just demolish the house like this, out with the old, in with the new."
The house was built with the help of everyone in the village, who moved stones together.
The Qin family used to be prosperous and kind to the villagers. Even after the incident, the villagers remembered their past kindness and, when building the house, they carefully selected every stone to make it square and solid. This tradition was passed down from Qin Zheng's grandfather to Qin Zheng.
This house is nice too.
It has a superior geographical location, with warm winters and cool summers.
"Are you crazy? We can keep this little house and build a few more houses in the back or next to it," Ye Yun joked, pinching Qin Zheng's cheek.
Qin Zheng: "But honey, don't you like those big windows in the city?"
Ye Yun raised an eyebrow.
Qin Zheng continued, "Look at the houses we live in in the city, the windows are 1.2 or 1.5 meters wide, but the windows in our village are only 50 centimeters wide, just enough for a little ventilation."
"Then let's open the window again."
"That seems to make sense."
Qin Zheng suddenly understood.
Ye Yun patted his head, feeling very relieved. "It's settled then. Let's wrap up for today and deal with the rest tomorrow. Let's get some sleep tonight!"
After saying that, she crawled into bed, pulled the blanket over herself completely.
Qin Zheng didn't think much of it and followed her into bed, habitually covering himself completely with her.
He didn't feel bored at all; he was happy to sleep in any position while cuddling his wife.
...
The next day, Xun Xiangbin sat in the courtyard in a daze early in the morning, staring blankly into the distance.
Qin Zheng came out to empty the foot bath water.
What did Xun Xiangbin look like when he came out? What did he look like when he poured out the foot bath water and was about to go back to the room?
Qin Zheng was carrying a basin when he passed by him and wanted to say a few words, but after thinking about it, he didn't have anything to say. In the end, he shook his head and turned to go back into the house.
"Her home is over there."
Suddenly Xun Xiangbin spoke, startling Qin Zheng so much that he almost slammed the foot bath basin he was holding onto Xun Xiangbin's head.
Qin Zheng silently tossed the foot basin towards the door and said indifferently, "Hmm."
Xun Xiangbin turned to look at him, grinned, and politely forced a smile that looked more like a grimace. He pointed to the rolling mountains ahead and said, "There are two mountains to cross from her home."
One mountain after another, stretching endlessly.
Heishui Village is situated on higher ground than the neighboring villages, and the Qin family's house is built on a higher ground at the village entrance. An official road runs from afar to near, with an unobstructed view of the village behind and rolling mountains in front.
Snow-covered landscape, withered trees everywhere.
From this angle, it is naturally very beautiful to look at, but only when you are there in person and walking inside will you know the confusion and fear of being in such a vast forest.
Xun Xiangbin had no idea how Luo Xiujuan had managed to carry a child across two mountains.
After being kicked out of her home, did she carry her child on her back, begging for food from house to house, crossing mountains and forests, and sleeping under dangerous trees or in dark ditches?
Will she be beaten, scolded, or driven away when she begs for food?
When she was sleeping in the mountains, what if she encountered mountain rain, lightning, thunder, and strong winds? How did she, a young woman, manage to protect her child and get through it all?
Xun Xiangbin dared not think about it.
The thought caused an uncontrollable ache in his chest, as if a large hand was tightly gripping his heart. The intense pain almost suffocated him, causing his whole body to convulse.
That feeling of regret and helplessness, which he couldn't undo, made him wish he were dead.
If he dies, it's as if nothing ever happened. If his death can bring all of this back, and turn Luo Xiujuan back into that innocent and radiant girl, and since he had never appeared in her life, then he would die without hesitation!
Unfortunately, no.
He did something wrong, and he will spend the rest of his life regretting it.
Qin Zheng simply responded with an "oh".
He then went into the house without looking back, not giving Xun Xiangbin another glance.
Human joys and sorrows are shared.
He felt that Xun Xiangbin had only himself to blame.
"Qin..." Xun Xiangbin's voice came from behind, but then stopped abruptly.
Qin Zheng turned his head away impatiently.
Aside from matters concerning Ye Yun, he easily loses his patience; he's never been a good-tempered person to begin with.
Xun Xiangbin noticed Qin Zheng's pale face and his eye twitched.
After staring at Qin Zheng for a long time, he still couldn't come up with a reason, which made Qin Zheng's last bit of patience run out.
"What exactly are you trying to say?"
Xun Xiangbin opened his mouth, and finally blurted out, "How...should I address you?"
Qin Zheng, "..."
