Chapter 16 A complete mess
The kitchen itself is not well soundproofed, even with only a thin wall separating it from the sound.
Shen Cuifen inside had already heard everything that was happening outside.
As she washed the vegetables, she listened to what was being said outside, and she was already furious.
Hearing Lu Weidong's loud bang at that moment, he was even more shocked.
Holding a knife in her hand, she suddenly became enraged and slammed the cleaver down onto the cutting board with a loud "bang".
That chop was so powerful that it startled the water in the pot, causing it to splash up.
The courtyard fell into a deathly silence.
Old Mrs. Zhao, who had been slapping her thigh and shouting just moments before, dared not utter another sound.
"I...I went to change my dad's pants."
After saying this with his head down and a slightly unsure tone, Lu Weidong turned around almost hastily.
Old Mrs. Zhao quickly dropped her arrogant demeanor and followed her inside.
But Lu Zhongping had already disappeared. He looked around the courtyard and, realizing the situation was not good, quietly slipped out of the gate.
After a while, Lu Zhongping was nowhere to be seen.
Lu Weidong couldn't wait any longer and couldn't help but peek out into the yard.
He understood at a glance.
There was no sign of him in the courtyard.
They've long since vanished without a trace!
"Son of a bitch!"
He couldn't help but curse, his teeth clenched tightly.
A pungent stench wafted up from behind.
He immediately frowned, covered his nose, and took two steps back: "Mom, you change it yourself."
His tone was tinged with disdain.
Upon smelling that odor, Old Lady Zhao was kneeling on the ground, busy with something.
Hearing her son speak, she muttered to herself as she packed her clothes, her grumbling never stopping:
"How could you do this... You're clearly my own father... Ugh, I feel so nauseous again! That mouthful of filth from this morning is still churning inside me..."
She felt uncomfortable as soon as she sat down, swayed a few times, and cried out, "Ouch!"
"I feel nauseous just smelling this; I can't take it anymore! I can't endure this miserable suffering!"
It turns out that earlier today, Shen Cuifen forcibly stuffed a mouthful of feces into his mouth.
Ever since then, I've always felt that pungent odor is everywhere in my nose, and it's hard to get rid of it for a long time.
Left with no other choice, Lu Weidong had to personally change his father's clothes.
By this time, it was completely quiet outside; there wasn't a sound at all.
Only the wind whistling through the courtyard made a soft rustling sound.
The oppressive and tense atmosphere inside the room gradually eased.
At this moment, Shen Cuifen gripped the knife handle tightly again and continued chopping the half-cut scallion segments in her hand, one slice at a time.
The noodles are finally cooked.
Shen Cuifen brought two relatively large bowls to serve the noodles.
"Mom, shall I go to the door and call Dad and Grandma to come over for dinner?"
She asked tentatively, her tone cautious.
"What else should we call it?"
Shen Cuifen's mother shook her head and replied, "I didn't cook for them. The two of us can eat by ourselves."
As she spoke, Shen Cuifen sat down and pulled Lu Xiuwei to the table as well.
She pulled her daughter to sit down while greeting her with a smile.
"It's rare for us to have a good meal, so you have to eat as much as you want."
Each person received a bowl, topped with three golden-brown fried eggs.
The milky white broth is paired with bright green scallions.
The egg crepe was fried until crispy and slightly yellow, with a faint charred edge.
A steaming aroma wafted up in waves.
Lu Xiuwei hesitated to pick up her chopsticks.
In the past, these good things like eggs and noodles were never available to the mother and her two children.
Every time the hen in the house lays an egg...
They were either given as gifts or secretly used by Old Lady Zhao to nourish her son.
It never appeared properly at the dinner table of her and her two daughters.
Now, these three large bowls of fragrant noodles were placed in front of her, which she found hard to believe.
Normally, unless it's a holiday or festival, we can't afford to eat this at home.
Even during the Lunar New Year, they only make do with a little bit of meat to make it feel festive, let alone having meat at every meal on ordinary days.
The sudden appearance of so many good things made Lu Xiuwei feel uneasy.
"What are you daydreaming about? Eat! We raised these chickens, we did the work, so we feel very at ease eating them."
Shen Cuifen picked up a large mouthful of noodles and slurped it down in one go.
"This is not a gift from anyone, but something we earned with our sweat. We could eat a hundred bowls of it without feeling guilty."
Shen Cuifen spoke in an exceptionally firm tone.
“I, Shen Cuifen, am no longer the person who used to swallow my anger and let others do whatever they want.”
There was no fear in her tone.
If she had more time, she would have loved to go straight to the chicken coop, grab a chicken, slaughter it, and stew it to nourish Lu Xiuwei.
In that case, it would be more than just a bowl of fragrant noodles.
There's a huge pot of fresh chicken soup waiting for us!
But right now, the pigs haven't been fed and the chickens haven't been prepared.
There were so many things popping up like weeds that she was overwhelmed.
"I think your mind is much clearer than before after that fall."
Lu Xiuwei picked up a few noodles and put them in her mouth.
She looked at her mother with a hint of relief in her eyes.
Lu Xiuwei couldn't help but sigh.
The Shen Cuifen before my eyes is quite different from before.
The once taciturn mother now seems like a completely different person.
Now she is radiant and sharp-tongued.
"You know this is how it should be, right? Then stop standing there like an idiot and eat. After you finish, take me to feed the pigs."
Shen Cuifen continued to eat heartily, her mouth never stopping as she answered.
"You have to go feed the pigs early, otherwise they'll get really hungry later and start squealing all the time, which is really annoying."
Lu Xiuwei nodded in agreement, and the mother and daughter immediately began to eat, quickly finishing a large bowl of noodles.
The two of them ate in silence, finishing their food quickly and efficiently.
Lu Weidong, on the other hand, was sweating profusely with anxiety.
He stood next to the pigpen, holding a half-bucket of pig feed in his hand.
I thought it was just a simple task of pouring it in.
Unexpectedly, pig feed splattered everywhere, even getting on shoelaces and trouser legs.
He had never done such dirty work before, and his hands, feet, and bed were covered in it, creating a complete mess.
His fingers were sticky with feed, and his clothes were stained with several patches of dirty water.
He tried to clean it up, but found that the more he tried to wipe it, the more messy it became.
Sweat streamed down his forehead and down his cheeks, stinging his eyes so much that he couldn't open them.
Lu Weidong quickly raised his hand and wiped his face.
As a result, the stuff that stuck to his hands ended up all over his face.
His appearance at that moment was utterly appalling.
His face was covered in filth and sweat, leaving strange marks on it.
Old Mrs. Zhao frowned as she watched, and then vomited again after leaving the house.
Seeing his grandson covered in dirt and looking extremely unkempt.
A wave of discomfort washed over her.
Looking down at his fingers, Lu Weidong realized that his index finger was covered in filth.
He tried to shake his hand, but couldn't get rid of the sticky residue, so he frowned and examined the finger.
That dark, lumpy thing was nauseating.
His eyes changed, his lips drooped, and he tried to wipe it clean while shaking his hand.
But the bigger the movement, the more it gets on your hands, and eventually your entire palm is almost completely contaminated.
This completely silenced him.
