Chapter 17 Dividing the Family
His tense body instantly stiffened, and the pain almost made him cry.
He didn't care about anything else and immediately put his fingers in his mouth and licked them a few times.
Old Mrs. Zhao, who had just finished vomiting, saw him like this and immediately rushed out the door to vomit again.
The emotions that had just calmed down erupted again.
Seeing her grandson licking his fingers made her feel utterly disgusted again.
Lu Weidong's brows furrowed immediately, and he quickly pulled his finger out to examine it.
He looked down at the finger he had just put in his mouth, and his heart skipped a beat.
The taste was still lingering on my tongue, which was really unpleasant.
"vomit--"
He immediately covered his mouth and rushed out of the room, feeling a metallic taste in his throat as he ran.
He had just run to the corner of the yard when he suddenly vomited.
This vomiting made me feel completely dizzy.
After vomiting, he leaned against the wall and gasped for breath for a long time, his face pale.
He wiped his mouth and staggered back into the house.
When I came back, the people inside were still busy, acting as if nothing had happened, and didn't seem to care at all.
A surge of anger welled up inside me.
Lu Weidong gritted his teeth and said nothing, then turned around and went back to his grandfather's room to start getting him dressed.
The room still smelled of vomit, which made him even more irritable.
Because I wasn't very skilled, my movements were clumsy and I almost spilled a basin of hot water.
It took three washes of the towel to clean the stains off the old man's body.
After a long and complicated process, they finally managed to change Lu Qiming into clean clothes.
I was so tired that I couldn't straighten my back.
Lu Weidong threw the bed sheets and dirty pants into the yard.
Shen Cuifen used to be in charge of washing these things.
He hadn't even settled into his seat when Lu Qiming suddenly started groaning again.
"Ouch, I'm wet again!"
Lu Weidong frowned deeply and stared at the large wet patch.
Suppressing his anger, he stood up again and walked outside.
I just brought in some water and poured in laundry detergent to wash the diapers.
As a result, less than two minutes after I sat down, the noise started again.
"Oh dear, I'm starving!"
He suddenly stood up, picked up the pot lid, and lifted it.
The porridge in the pot needs to simmer for a while longer before it can be drunk.
I hurriedly grabbed some ready-made pickled vegetables.
When I finally put the food next to Grandpa and was about to sit down to catch my breath, the old man started to shed tears.
"Waaaaah... Lu Weidong, how could you do this to us?!"
The old man suddenly grabbed his hand and started crying.
“Cuifen, an outsider, has served me for more than ten years without a single complaint.”
"You've only just begun serving me and you're already calling me an old hag! Do you even deserve to be called a human being?"
Lu Qiming suddenly covered his face and cried terribly.
Hearing the commotion, Old Mrs. Zhao quickly and secretly pushed open the door and came out.
I kept looking back as I walked, afraid of getting caught up in their argument.
Lu Weidong stood by the bed with his fists clenched, veins bulging on his face.
"What are you yelling about? Shen Cuifen is so nice, why don't you go and ask her to change it for you! Anyway, you like her! I'm not going to serve you, okay!"
But to everyone's surprise, the old man cried even louder when he heard this, as if he had suffered a great injustice, and almost turned the whole courtyard upside down.
"Stop crying! I'll go get you some food, okay?"
Lu Weidong gritted his teeth and uttered those words.
He stormed into the kitchen.
The floorboards beneath my feet creaked slightly.
But when they opened the kitchen door, Shen Cuifen was nowhere to be seen.
The rag that had just been washed by the sink still seemed to be dripping water.
The kitchen knife on the cutting board was neatly put into the knife rack.
A faint aroma of fried eggs lingered in the air.
That familiar aroma wafted from the corner of the stove.
The oil stains seemed to linger on his fingertips.
A deathly silence fell over the room.
The old lady outside the door could no longer contain her curiosity.
She stepped in hesitantly, her movements cautious, but her eyes were very wary.
She kept sniffing, searching for that mouthwatering aroma.
"Tsk tsk!"
"Old Mrs. Zhao sighed."
"This is such a waste! How can you live such a lavish lifestyle? You're so casual about frying eggs! Weidong, can't you discipline him?"
Faced with the nagging manner common among the older generation, Lu Weidong felt a surge of annoyance.
"If you can do it, then you do it!"
He casually uttered this sarcastic remark, but deep down he couldn't wait to escape this place so he could get some food and drink and relieve his mental and physical exhaustion.
The old lady frowned and pursed her lips, then reached out and lifted the lid of the dark, heavy iron pot on the stove.
The moment the pot lid was lifted, she couldn't help but scream in surprise.
"What's wrong? Why are you yelling and screaming all day long? It's scary!"
Lu Weidong was startled, his brows furrowed, and he impatiently stepped forward to see what was going on.
As a result, it was immediately clear that there was nothing left in the pot.
That place, which once filled with the aroma of fried eggs, is now completely empty.
The two stood there in a daze for a while.
Then, instinctively, I began to open the cupboards and search around.
The sounds of cabinet doors being opened rose and fell, and the occasional clatter of dishes could be heard.
They turned the entire kitchen upside down.
They only found a small bowl filled with salty sauce.
Even the corner where eggs and noodles are usually kept is now empty.
"Oh no... You're asking for trouble!"
The old lady became emotional, and her voice rose several octaves.
"That bitch Shen Cuifen must have moved everything out, she won't even cook a meal for us!"
"Oh dear! All my eggs are gone too!"
Upon hearing those words, she suddenly slapped her thigh and began to wail and scream.
"You bitch, are you looking for death?! Can't you watch your mouth? Do you have to get a beating before you'll be quiet!"
The sudden roar from outside the door abruptly interrupted Old Mrs. Zhao's performance.
Upon hearing that familiar yet frightening voice, Old Mrs. Zhao froze instantly as if she had been electrocuted.
Almost instinctively, she immediately hid behind Lu Weidong.
Shen Cuifen slowly stepped into the house from the doorway, carrying a pig feed bucket that looked rather heavy.
Seeing this scene, Lu Weidong forced himself to remain calm.
"Shen Cuifen," he said sternly, "have you made enough of a scene? You've already resorted to violence, so you should at least do the cooking!"
Shen Cuifen responded with a cold smile.
"Lu Weidong, do you think I was joking when I said I wanted a divorce? Let's go to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow to get our marriage certificate and complete the formalities. From now on, we'll each live our own lives and not bother each other. Don't make me unhappy anymore!"
A hint of ruthlessness flashed in Lu Weidong's eyes.
"You surnamed Chen, you're having an affair, aren't you!"
He said those words coldly.
Otherwise, no matter how many times she was beaten before, she never mentioned the matter of dividing the family property.
