Chapter 177 Trying to smooth things over won't work

"What are you worried about? I'm a grown woman." Wang Jing said, a little annoyed, and grabbed her clothes before going into the room.

Wang Jing's parents exchanged a glance and sighed deeply.

No one understands their daughter's thoughts better than they do; her ambitions are sky-high, and that's why they worry.

When Ji Chen returned home, he saw that Jiang Xue had cooked a table full of hot food as usual. He immediately remembered Gu Xiaohei's paradox, so he quickly washed his hands and helped Jiang Xue with the food.

"Do you know who I ran into on my way back?"

Jiang Xue scooped water from the water vat without looking up at Ji Chen. She had already guessed that it must be Wang Jing, but there was no need to tell her this.

"I know."

"You know nothing. Next time, make sure your employees go home earlier, otherwise it's too dangerous."

Jiang Xue's heart tightened, and she held the ladle above the water vat. "Could something have happened to Wang Jing on the way?"

"Yes, otherwise why would I bring her up with you? Do you know about Aunt Zhou's unreliable husband?"

Jiang Xue continued busying herself, saying, "Of course I know that lazybones."

"He almost raped Wang Jing."

"Bang..."

Jiang Xue was so startled that she dropped the ladle in her hand. She exclaimed in astonishment, "How dare Aunt Zhou's husband have such audacity?"

Ji Chen shook his head. "It's not just Aunt Zhou's husband; there are bachelors and drunkards all over the surrounding area. Don't let them go home so late next time."

Jiang Xue knew that Ji Chen was kindly reminding him that if Wang Jing had an accident on the road, he would be in deep trouble.

The more she thought about it, the more worried she became. Ji Chen put a piece of sausage on Jiang Xue's plate and said, "Let's eat first. Don't worry too much. Just let her go home early tomorrow."

Only Jiang Xue knew that it wasn't that she didn't want Wang Jing to go home early, but rather that Wang Jing herself seemed to have ulterior motives.

Jiang Xue didn't eat a single bite of rice for a long time, sitting at the small square table with a heavy heart.

“You should sign a contract with them. That’s how I do things with my workers.” Seeing Jiang Xue’s listless appearance, Ji Chen was a little worried. “Don’t think too much about it. Send her back before five o’clock tomorrow, and give her the money as usual.”

Jiang Xue nodded in surprise.

The next day, Jiang Xue and Gu Xiaoling returned from the gear factory after taking measurements. It was almost sunset, and the two planned to compile the data together that evening.

"Wang Jing, you're from Wangjiazhuang, right? It gets dark early in winter, you should go home soon." Jiang Xue put down what she was doing.

Wang Jing was chatting happily with everyone, but after Jiang Xue said that, her bright smile turned sinister.

"Why are you making me leave earlier? Why don't you let everyone else leave?"

Aunt Wang was also a little confused. She went up to Jiang Xue and asked, "Why did you let her leave work so early? Look, there's Aunt Liu and Aunt Fan, they're both from Liujiazhuang and Fanjiazhuang, which are even further away."

“Wang Jing is a young girl, and I’m worried about her safety walking alone at night.” Jiang Xue frowned. She was most worried about what would happen to her worker. After all her hard work, it would all be for naught.

Upon hearing this, Wang Jing immediately realized that Ji Chen must have told Jiang Xue about it yesterday. Her face grew even uglier. She wasn't angry that she had almost been raped by Aunt Zhou's husband, but that Ji Chen had actually told Jiang Xue.

"Oh dear, I thought something serious had happened. It's very safe here. Conditions are getting better and better now, who would want to do something so dangerous?" Aunt Wang said, trying to smooth things over.
