The village secretary and several others stared at Jiang Xue with their mouths agape, wondering if she had really made some unreasonable demands.
"I'll draw up a written agreement. If any of you violate it in the future, you'll have to pay compensation according to the agreement." Jiang Xue stood up and took a piece of white paper.
The village secretary took a look, his eyes practically popping out of his head, and exclaimed, "You'll have to pay me a thousand yuan for violating this rule?"
Wu Mazi's wife was the first to object. Her face changed drastically as she stood up and shouted, "What? Why don't you just rob someone?"
Jiang Xue sat on the stool and said calmly, "Since you have already promised not to disturb my business, why are you afraid of the numbers in the agreement?"
Wu Mazi's wife instantly lost her confidence. Her eyes darted around, and she stammered, "I'm just afraid I can't control my husband."
Jiang Xue smiled faintly and said softly, "If you can't control it, just give me the money. I don't think anyone would turn down money."
Jiang Xue isn't particularly greedy right now, but she's facing these people in the village alone. She has no connections or relatives to rely on, so she's practically fighting on her own. If these venomous snakes don't strike at their weak points, they'll surely bite her in the future.
Unlike last time, the police station won't let her sneak away to the city to report the crime.
You learn from your mistakes; people aren't stupid.
"After you sign, I'll go to the city with you to get the person out. We're all from the same village, and I don't want to be too distant with everyone," Jiang Xue said with a very polite smile.
But seeing her smile, Wu Mazi's wife, and several others, felt a chill run down their spines.
In everyone's eyes, Jiang Xue used to be fiery, but she was just like a shrew, throwing a tantrum and few people would take her seriously.
But the current Jiang Xue gives them a very direct feeling that she is not easy to mess with or bully.
Including the village party secretary, he now both admires and respects Jiang Xue. "I agree to this. Let's sign and put our fingerprints on it. Nobody can predict what will happen in the future."
They looked at each other, realizing that they couldn't afford to waste time on the men in their families, who were the main breadwinners.
After everyone had left, Jiang Xue examined their signatures with satisfaction.
When you're out in the world, you make your own talisman; relying on yourself is always more reliable than relying on anyone else.
"You didn't go to work today, so please look after those two kids for a while. I'll go and bring them back." Before leaving, Jiang Xue bent down and kissed Shao Meng's chubby cheek.
With his face red and swollen, Ji Chen suddenly managed to squeeze out a sentence, "Be careful on the road."
Jiang Xue assumed this was just standard politeness and replied nonchalantly, "Thank you."
After Jiang Xue left, Ji Chen realized that Jiang Xue hadn't even taken a flashlight. She had been locked up by those people for two days, so they definitely wouldn't give her a friendly look, and might even say some nasty things.
He chased after her outside, only to find that Jiang Xue had already vanished without a trace.
As night deepened, Ji Chen felt a sense of unease for some reason.
He had just finished preparing dinner when Shaoheng ran over in his childish voice, "Uncle, when is Aunt coming back? I miss her."
"Aunt will be back soon. Is Shaoheng hungry?" Ji Chen was certainly not as adept at taking care of children as Jiang Xue.
To his relief, the child seemed to be closer to Jiang Xue than to him.
Seeing that it was already quite dark outside, Ji Chen said, "Come on, your uncle will take you to pick up your aunt."
