Chapter 20 Children's Concern

Shaoheng jumped for joy. As a young boy, he was very fond of his gentle and considerate aunt.

Even his mother didn't treat him as well as his aunt.

"I want to bring an ear of corn to my aunt; she must be hungry."

Shao Heng's words shocked Ji Chen. Care is mutual; no child would be so considerate to someone for no reason.

"Okay, you take one."

Shao Heng, carrying a bag and an ear of corn, was led by Ji Chen toward the city.

For some reason, Ji Chen was worried the whole way. The image in his mind was of Jiang Xue alone, isolated, rushing home.

Jiang Xue didn't have a flashlight, so even by moonlight, she was just groping in the dark.

"Hahahaha..." A burst of laughter followed.

Shao Heng shook off Ji Chen's hand, "Auntie is back, Auntie is back!" After saying that, he was about to run forward.

Before Shao Heng could even take a step, Ji Chen lifted him up like a little chick.

"Your aunt doesn't live with them."

Ji Chen grew up in the village, so he could still recognize people's voices very clearly.

“Aunt, that’s Aunt.” Shao Heng struggled desperately and shook off Ji Chen’s hand.

Shao Heng took off and pounced on Jiang Xue, who was chatting and laughing in the crowd.

Jiang Xue's eyes lit up when she saw Shao Heng rushing towards her. She squatted down and picked him up in her arms.

"Oh my, what a sweet young couple!" Wu Mazi's wife teased Jiang Xue from the side.

Jiang Xue replied somewhat embarrassedly, "That's what you said, the child misses me."

Shao Heng quickly replied, "No, it's because your uncle missed you. As soon as you left, your uncle ran after you."

"Hahahaha..." Everyone laughed even harder in an instant.

Wu Mazi stepped forward and said, "Jiang Xue, we became friends after a fight. From now on, I will try to follow your advice."

Wang the bamboo craftsman readily agreed.

"We're leaving now, the children are waiting for us at home." Wang the bamboo craftsman's wife, being very perceptive, pulled him along to go first.

Seeing that everyone had left, Ji Chen took out a hot ear of corn from his pocket and handed it to Jiang Xue, saying, "Don't misunderstand, Shao Heng wanted to bring it to you."

Jiang Xue happily took the corn, hugged Shao Heng, and kissed his soft face a few times.

"From now on, your aunt will send you to school and nurture my Shaoheng into the best college student."

Hearing this, Ji Chen felt a surge of warmth in his heart. His biggest regret in life was that his father was sick and he missed the college entrance examination.

Jiang Xue became worried when she thought about Shao Heng's future.

The still-warm, fragrant corn in my hands suddenly felt heavy.

"What if your sister wants to go back to her two children in the future?" Jiang Xue didn't want to possess the two children, but her studies couldn't afford any mistakes.

If her unreliable sister-in-law were to take the two children back to work as laborers when they were a little older, the two children would be completely ruined.

This is what worries her the most.

“My sister doesn’t know how.” Ji Chen’s tone was heavy, and he sighed deeply.

"Are you so sure?" Jiang Xue was used to seeing contracts in black and white, and now, based entirely on a letter, she felt uneasy about severing ties.

"She's pregnant again and is doing quite well with her current man."
