Jiang Xue frowned. She knew that no matter what she said, it would be useless; Ji Yun was indeed Shao Heng's mother.
What right does an outsider like her have to stop her from taking her own child out to play?
"It's a misunderstanding, everyone please disperse."
Seeing that the couple had said this, everyone guessed it was just a misunderstanding, and the onlookers left disappointed.
Seeing that everyone had dispersed, Ji Chen angrily stepped forward and grabbed Ji Yun's arm, demanding, "What exactly do you want?"
Ji Chen's ferocity startled Ji Yun.
"I'm taking my child with me. Didn't I say that yesterday?" Although Ji Yun was afraid of her older brother, she still put on a defiant act.
Seeing that the two siblings continuing to fight was not a problem, Jiang Xue said, "Let's find a restaurant and sit down to talk."
"Why should I listen to you?" Ji Yun's contempt for Jiang Xue was not just a little bit.
Ji Chen stared at Ji Yun with disgust. "Either we talk at the restaurant, or you can get back home."
Ji Yun pouted, "Big brother, why do you listen to this damn woman in everything now? I remember you didn't like her before, but you like her now..."
"Shut up, how dare you talk like that?" Ji Chen frowned and glared at him.
Seeing that Ji Chen was completely enraged, Ji Yun had no choice but to bite the bullet and say, "Let's go to the restaurant then. You pay for it. I don't have any money."
Jiang Xue felt a pang of anxiety after hearing their conversation, but she remained outwardly calm.
She still held Shaoheng's hand as usual, saying, "Come on, I'll take you to eat something delicious."
Ji Chen followed behind, his brows furrowed. Had Jiang Xue misunderstood what Ji Yun had just said? Did she think he had someone else in his heart? The reason he was angry just now wasn't the first part of the sentence, but Ji Yun's repeated calls of Jiang Xue as a dead woman, which he found very displeasing.
However, he knew that Jiang Xue had always referred to herself as his aunt to Shao Heng, and she had clearly said "me" just now. All along the way, his mind was in complete turmoil.
They sat on the second floor of the restaurant, near the window.
Everyone was silent, except for Shao Meng who made some soft babbling sounds. Ji Chen held Shao Meng and comforted her.
Jiang Xue saw that Ji Yun was completely unmoved by Shao Meng. How could she have no feelings for such an adorable little dumpling, the baby who was born from her belly?
She continued to eat the braised pork with preserved mustard greens with gusto, saying, "This braised pork with preserved mustard greens is really delicious. Their spring chicken is very famous. You newcomers don't know."
After she finished speaking, she turned around and called out, "Give me a serving of spring chicken."
Jiang Xue tentatively asked, "Shao Heng really likes to eat noodles."
Her implication was that she wanted to give the child a bowl of noodles or something. She knew it was a test, but she still held onto a last glimmer of hope for Ji Yun.
"It's not worth it to eat noodles and steamed buns here. You might as well buy them at a steamed bun shop."
Jiang Xue felt a pang of pain in her heart when she saw Ji Yun's selfish face, but she seemed powerless to change anything.
"Aunt, I only like the food you make." Shao Heng wasn't stupid. He knew exactly how much his mother cared for him, and besides, he couldn't lie to a child.
“Your father is from the North, so it’s normal for you to like noodles.” Jiang Xue looked at Shao Heng with affection.
In Shao Heng's eyes, Jiang Xue was more like his mother, able to remember everything about him, while his own mother was busy gnawing on a chicken leg.
Shao Heng, suppressing his tears, said, "I'll eat anything."
Jiang Xue knew that deep down, the child wanted to awaken his maternal love. After all, she was his biological mother, and the bond of blood could never be changed.
"Ji Yun, why do you insist on bringing Shao Heng with you?" Jiang Xue just wanted to get to the bottom of things for the child.
