Jiang Xue looked at Ji Yun calmly. Despite the large table of dishes, she and Ji Chen couldn't eat a single bite.
"Waiter, bring the child a plate of milk-flavored steamed buns."
Jiang Xue's actions made Ji Chen even more unhappy with Ji Yun. "Is this how you act as a mother? How can you be so selfish?"
Ji Yun put down the chicken leg in her hand, wiped her mouth with a tissue, and said, "I'm selfish, but why don't you say their father is selfish? He kidnapped me and then abandoned me. I hate everything about him."
Seeing her speaking through gritted teeth, Jiang Xue felt a mix of emotions.
“If you can’t take good care of the child, we can help you, but we’re all adults. Try to control your emotions and don’t bring your pain to the child. The child is innocent,” Jiang Xue said earnestly to Ji Yun.
But Ji Yun wasn't one to accept favors. "Don't say anything more. You're an outsider, what right do you have to talk to me?"
This remark left Jiang Xue speechless.
“Watch your mouth. Jiang Xue is the mother of two now. Who do you think you are? You even left a handwritten letter back then. Do you think you can just go back on your word like that? The children have already been adopted by Jiang Xue. They have nothing to do with you.”
Jiang Xue tried to reason with her, but she wouldn't listen, so Ji Chen stopped giving her any face.
“I’m going to change my mind. I don’t care about Shao Heng, I’m going to take him with me.”
"Why do you insist on taking Shaoheng away? Explain yourself clearly. If you do, I, as his guardian, will allow you to take him." Jiang Xue wasn't an unreasonable person. If she could take Shaoheng back and cherish him, she would certainly be happy.
But she would never agree to take someone back to be treated like a slave, a tool to be bullied.
She grew up in an orphanage in her past life and was adopted, but those families even sent her back to the orphanage after they had children.
Only she can understand this childhood trauma, and she doesn't want her two children, with whom she has developed a close relationship, to follow the same path.
“Oh dear, I’m his mother, of course the child should stay with his mother.”
Seeing that Ji Yun was trying to evade the question, Jiang Xue said, "Alright, you can take both children with you."
She quickly stood up. "Ji Chen, let's go home. Mom misses the children, and we must let her go."
Jiang Xue had been mindful of Shao Heng's presence and didn't want her actions to hurt the child.
But Jiang Xue simply couldn't stand Ji Yun's stubborn and unyielding manner.
She knew in her heart that perhaps only in this way could she get Ji Yun to tell the truth.
Ji Chen immediately saw through Jiang Xue's thoughts and readily stood up, saying, "Let's go back."
Ji Yun hurriedly dropped her chopsticks and bowl, completely panicked. "You're taking Shao Meng away? I don't want Shao Meng!"
Jiang Xue shook her head, "Shao Meng, you don't want it? How can you say your mother misses the child? Don't lie."
Ji Chen's face turned as black as the bottom of a pot. "Tell me, do we think we can help you?"
Ji Yun pouted, her eyes red-rimmed, "My husband has gotten involved with a woman who has a son, and he's going to raise her son for her."
Jiang Xue's worldview was completely shattered upon hearing this. "Then why are you still with him?"
“He’s rich. He gives me fifty yuan a month for living expenses, and I don’t have to do anything.”
Jiang Xue was so angry at Ji Yun's shallowness that she laughed.
Ji Chen was so angry that his chest hurt.
"Did you break your own arms and legs? Can't you find a job yourself?"
