Jiang Xue was lost in thought when she heard Ji Chen and the child's laughter.
She looked around and saw Shao Heng standing blankly outside the bamboo fence gate. He was quite far away, and Jiang Xue couldn't hear whether Shao Heng had called for his mother.
Of course, Shaoheng didn't call out "Mom".
Ji Chen glanced coldly at Ji Yun, not even bothering to say hello, and took the two children home directly.
Jiang Xue saw that Shao Heng had his head down, hiding thoughts that were completely out of character for his age.
Jiang Xue came up and hugged Shao Heng. "Shall we eat? If you miss your mother, you can go out and call her."
Shao Heng's tears fell instantly, and he hugged Jiang Xue tightly with his little hands. "In my eyes, you are my mother."
Jiang Xue felt a mix of emotions and didn't know what to say. "Let's eat first. What did you do at Grandma Wang's house today?"
With red eyes and a choked voice, Shao Heng took the chopsticks and said, "I was playing marbles with her older brother."
Jiang Xue gently patted Shao Heng's head, "My Shao Heng will definitely hit the bullseye every time."
"That's right." Tears streamed down Shao Heng's young face, but his eyes shone with pride.
Seeing Jiang Xue being so gentle, Ji Chen felt a mix of emotions. Why had Jiang Xue never treated him this way before?
She said, somewhat annoyed, "Why didn't you serve me some rice?"
Jiang Xue was taken aback, but she quickly realized that Ji Chen was trying to get attention.
She smiled and pursed her lips. "Go by yourself. I'm taking care of the child. Don't make a fuss."
Upon hearing Jiang Xue's words, Ji Chen was overjoyed. Her gentle and kind words were even more comforting than serving him tea or water.
However, their warm moment didn't last long before it was completely disrupted by Ji Yun and Xie Xiaotian.
"Brother, could you let me take Shao Henghuang back with me?" Ji Yun walked in empty-handed.
Jiang Xue felt very uncomfortable. The two children hadn't seen each other for so long. Even if she couldn't afford to buy them a change of clothes, she could at least offer them a string of candied hawthorns to appease them.
There were also those who came in and said they wanted to take Shaoheng away, without even considering the child's feelings.
Seeing that Ji Chen didn't speak, Jiang Xue couldn't help but cut to the chase, "You said you'd take the child with you, why didn't you ask the child's opinion?"
Ji Yun glanced at Jiang Xue with disdain, "What right does a woman who stripped naked and went to the reservoir to bathe have to talk to me?"
"Shut up." Ji Chen's cold, deep voice silenced the entire house instantly.
Jiang Xue wasn't the kind of person to let things remain silent. "At least I'm married, and I've seen the man who was taking a shower. What about you? You've changed men one after another, that's your skill, but what kind of skill is it to have one child and then abandon it?"
Jiang Xue has always been straightforward and doesn't bother with pretense. It is precisely because of this argumentative and strong-willed personality that her shop is now closed.
"You're just an aunt, what right do you have to discipline the child? When the child's mother comes, can't she just take whoever she wants?" Xie Xiaotian spoke up for Ji Yun from the side.
Jiang Xue looked at her best friend, who used to be so close they were practically inseparable, and couldn't help but laugh. It's true what they say, people with different personalities just can't get along.
“You can take it, but you have to ask the child’s opinion first.” Ji Chen slammed his chopsticks heavily on the table.
Jiang Xue felt very comfortable knowing that Ji Chen understood her so well and was even on her side.
