Chapter 36 Uninvited Guests!
Gu Yunting finally reacted when he saw her. He thought about how she usually spoke with a sharp tongue, and how she looked clumsy at the moment, which made her look like two completely different people. Although they didn't have much contact with each other, he could feel that the sharpness she showed was just a disguise for self-protection, and her true character might not be like that.
He studied Su Mengxue calmly, and his mind once again popped up questions he hadn't figured out before. Who was she? Where did she come from? Why did she pretend to be a girl from the Su family?
Su Mengxue didn't notice the strange look on Gu Yunting's face. She was currently dwelling on the fact that Gu Yunting had also used the wooden tub in the bathroom. She thought of how he had stripped naked that night, and then she remembered that she had also bathed in that tub...
She frowned. What's the difference between them and taking a shower together?
Thinking of this, she looked up at Gu Yunting and asked shyly and disgustedly, "Is the wooden tub in the bathroom... the one you usually use?"
Gu Yunting was distracted and didn't notice Su Mengxue's red ears and the disgust in her words. He said perfunctorily with a vague expression, "Yes."
After he finished speaking, he suddenly remembered that it was inconvenient for Su Mengxue to take a cold shower, so he quickly added: "I'm used to taking cold showers in the army, so there is no water heater in the bathroom. If you need it, I will send someone to install a water heater in the bathroom tomorrow, so it will be more convenient for you."
The guess was confirmed. Su Mengxue, who had a serious obsession with mysophobia, replied angrily: "I'll be leaving the Gu family soon anyway, so don't worry about it."
Seeing that she was always thinking about leaving, Gu Yunting suddenly felt a surge of anger in his heart. However, he couldn't vent this anger in front of her. He turned his head to look at the dark night, his Adam's apple rolling, and said in a deep voice, "I'm leaving."
After saying that, he walked out with his legs crossed.
Su Mengxue looked out the window at the pitch-black night, then looked at his tall back and asked, "Where are you going to sleep so late?"
She regretted it the moment she said it. She had meant to say that she had occupied his house, and out of courtesy she had asked him where he was going to stay so late. However, the meaning changed as soon as she said it, and it sounded more like an invitation for him to stay the night.
Gu Yunting was stunned for a moment. He wanted to say that he would sleep in the front hall, but the words suddenly changed direction as soon as he said them: "Su Mengxue, I'm not that easy-going."
Su Mengxue was furious when she heard this. Gu Yunting's words clearly meant that she was a casual person. When she thought of the words Gu Yunting had said before that belittled her, she felt very angry.
She couldn't stand it any longer and said, "Gu Yunting, you're being overly suspicious. I'm not so casual as to not be picky about people."
As soon as these words were spoken, their eyes met and the air was suddenly filled with gunpowder.
Gu Yunting clenched his fingers tightly at his side. His eyes darkened and he asked coldly, "Su Mengxue, are you trying to say that I'm not worthy of you?"
Su Mengxue raised her eyebrows and replied lightly: "You said that yourself."
"You..." Gu Yunting's eyes were sharp, and he didn't know what to say for a moment. When he was about to leave, he noticed the bundle beside him and ordered, "Su Mengxue, remember what I told you. Don't go to the black market again, or I will be the first to report you."
Su Mengxue was soft-hearted and hated being threatened. She raised her voice slightly and retorted without a hint of weakness, "Gu Yunting, you have no right to interfere in my life. I know why you don't want me to go. Don't worry, even if I'm caught by the police, I won't tell anyone about the Gu family."
He was clearly worried about her, but she misinterpreted his good intentions. Seeing her self-righteous expression, he replied angrily, "I hope you'll keep your promise!" With a red face, he left in anger.
Su Mengxue looked at his departing figure, curled her lips and added: "Don't worry, we are not related at all. Even if I go to jail, it has nothing to do with you."
Gu Yunting paused, then quickly walked out of the yard and headed straight for the front hall. He did not notice the dark shadow hiding not far away.
…
Su Mengxue suddenly opened her eyes and saw that the wall clock pointed to 7:30. She sat up from the bed. She was very tired yesterday and slept late, so she got up late today.
She tried to move her ankle and felt that the ointment Gu Yunting applied to her was indeed effective. Although her foot still hurt a little, it was obviously much better than yesterday.
She put on the bell-bottom pants and bat-wing shirt she wore yesterday, climbed down with her hands on the wall, and put on the pair of ugly white canvas shoes.
She tried walking a few steps and felt just fine, but the soles of her white canvas shoes were a bit stiff, making them uncomfortable to walk in, and they didn't match her clothes.
But she had no other shoes at the moment, so she had to make do with them. She then went to the east room to wash her face, and after a quick freshen-up, she picked up her bag and planned to go straight to the master.
As she pushed open the door, Aunt Wang came in with a shoe box in her hand.
Su Mengxue asked with a puzzled look on her face: "Auntie Wang, what are you doing?"
Mother Wang stuffed the shoebox into her hands and said with a smile, "Yun Ting returned to the army early this morning. He asked me to give this to you."
Su Mengxue opened the shoe box and found a pair of brown leather shoes inside. She looked at the soles of the shoes and saw that they were size 37, which was exactly the size she wore now.
She raised her eyebrows. Could Gu Yunting be so kind?
She then thought about what he asked her to do last night to keep the matter secret from Mr. Gu...
No matter what he was thinking, she would not accept anything from Gu Yunting, and since their relationship was so bad, she absolutely could not accept anything from him.
She closed the shoe box and stuffed it back into Wang Ma's hands, saying firmly, "Wang Ma, please help me return the shoes to Gu Yunting."
Thinking of Gu Yunting's instructions before he left, Wang Ma still had a smile on her face and said, "Miss Su, Yunting specifically told me before he left that if you don't accept it, he will let me stay until you are willing to accept it."
Su Mengxue couldn't help but roll her eyes and blurt out, "Who does Gu Yunting think he is? This bastard is so domineering. I just won't accept him. Let's see what he can do to me!"
Wang Ma's face darkened instantly. She sighed heavily and said with an embarrassed look, "Miss Su, I know you're not afraid of Yun Ting, but I work for the Gu family and I'm counting on this job to save up for my son's wedding gift. Just take pity on me, an old woman, and accept it, okay?"
As Wang Ma spoke, she was about to cry.
Seeing Wang Ma's expression, Su Mengxue's heart softened. She looked down at the pair of incredibly stiff canvas shoes on her feet, thought for a moment, and replied, "Okay, Wang Ma, I'll take the shoes. I'd also like to trouble you to tell Grandpa Gu that I have something urgent to do and need to leave, so I won't be able to have breakfast with him."
Seeing that she accepted it, Wang Ma smiled again: "Okay, Miss Su, I'll go back to the front hall first."
Aunt Wang was afraid that Su Mengxue would change her mind, so she trotted away after saying that.
After Aunt Wang left, Su Mengxue went back to the inner room to change into the pair of leather shoes. She had to admit that Gu Yunting had a very good taste. The pair of brown leather shoes paired with flared pants had a retro British style, making her look capable and fashionable.
Moreover, the leather of these shoes was very soft and she felt very comfortable wearing them. She then thought that if she ran into the police in the black market, it would be much easier to run in these shoes.
Thinking of this, she frowned. What was the purpose of caring about Yun Ting? He was the one who gave her the shoes. Why should she be so hard on her feet? She could just wear them as long as they were comfortable.
As Su Mengxue walked out of the Gu family's gate, she bumped into Jiang Weilong who was walking hurriedly towards her. She staggered back a few steps and hit the door panel. The bag in her hand fell to the ground, and the bell-bottom pants and bat shirt in the bag rolled all over the floor.
She suddenly realized what was happening and squatted down to pick up the clothes, but she saw Jiang Weilong staring at her and asked sternly, "Comrade Su, are you planning to sell all these clothes when you go out?"
