Chapter 15 The store was robbed
At night, the moonlight is bright and the stars are twinkling.
"How are you adapting to the daily workload?" Ye Shuyi asked the four employees.
She observed that several of them were very hardworking.
"I'm a little tired, but I can still handle it." Xie Yanfei replied while wiping the table.
"No big deal, leave the heavy work to me from now on." Wu Shuorong is tall and strong, and very strong.
"I'm so tired. My waist is sore. But I can try to get used to it." Dong Lin'er patted her waist and sat down.
The thin and petite Shi Ruoxin wiped her face and said as she put on the garbage bag, "It's okay. I've been doing housework since I was a child. I'm not tired."
Ye Shuyi felt really distressed, so she told her to stop doing it and take a rest first.
"How old are you?" Ye Shuyi asked.
“20.”
"Oh oh." A twenty-year-old girl.
She has a sick father and a five-year-old brother. Her mother is a cleaner, and she goes out to do odd jobs to support the family.
What a miserable life.
"You guys can finish up and go back to rest! Everyone did a great job today, thank you for your hard work!" said Ye Shuyi.
"Okay!" the four agreed.
When I got home, Zhizhi was already asleep.
Ye Shuyi washed up quietly and climbed onto the bed.
Their room has bunk beds and is very narrow. The walls get damp and even moldy during the warmest days of the year.
A damp and sultry smell.
But you'll get used to it.
She took out an A5 leather notebook from under her pillow and started writing.
It's a shredded chicken recipe.
She wanted to create a cookbook of various delicacies to pass down to future generations. Should she name it "Ye Ji Ming Cookbook"? Never mind. She wasn't good at naming things; she'd decide on a name after she finished.
Hand-shredded chicken alone isn’t enough, so what will she make next time?
She wasn't really sure what Hong Kong had in the 1990s but had in the 21st century. But who cares if it exists? As long as it's delicious, isn't that enough?
Even today's lemon shredded chicken is different from the one in 2025. She improved the ingredients based on her experience.
Honey-glazed roast duck, braised lion's head, fried stuffed peppers...
While writing, Ye Shuyi felt hungry and her mouth was watering.
I’ll write it tomorrow and go to sleep.
Turn off the lights.
On the second day, there were obviously more people than on the first day, and there was no place to sit.
Many people were standing and queuing to take away their food.
Ye Shuyi said, "You can't take the hand-shredded chicken you're trying to eat to go!"
Everyone came here just for the hand-shredded chicken, and when they heard this, they got angry.
"Why not? It's not like we don't buy your stuff, so why can't I take it away?" someone protested.
"That's right! You don't have any seats here, and you don't give us a pack. What does that mean?" others echoed.
"It's like this. It's okay for you to pack up ordinary dishes, but not the hand-shredded chicken. It will only be officially sold tomorrow. It's a gift and can only be eaten in the restaurant." Ye Shuyi explained.
"If you still want to eat, you can queue up for dine-in."
In this way, a few people who were unwilling to wait left first.
Some are unwilling to accept it.
So what does lemon shredded chicken taste like? Someone at home had it here yesterday and raved about it, which made me curious.
Is it really that delicious?
I really want to see it.
Just for this curiosity, some people continued to queue up in the scorching sun, cursing.
He also urged those who were eating here to hurry up.
Some people even paid money to ask those dining in to stop eating there and give up their seats.
There were circles of people gathered in front of Yeji Gourmet Shop. It was so hot in June that you could fry an egg if you cracked it on the ground.
But, did anyone give up? No.
Everyone would rather endure the heat to satisfy their taste buds.
This is when the tortoise jelly comes in handy. Ye Shuyi asked Wu Shuorong to prepare a large amount of tortoise jelly early on and sell it to people in line for tasting.
There are many flavors of Guilinggao, some are coconut milk, some are mango, some are cantaloupe, durian, etc.
This was not available in Hong Kong Island at the time, and it was very new, immediately attracting a large number of people to buy it.
Even people passing by, seeing so many people queuing, went to ask.
The people in line were raving about Ye Ji's Shredded Chicken. That person, listening, joined the queue. One nested within another, like nesting dolls.
"Shuyi, guess how much profit we made today?" Ye Junhui said mysteriously when closing the store, with joy in his eyes that could not be concealed.
"How much?" Ye Shuyi guessed that it should be a new high since Ye Ji Gourmet opened.
"This number." Ye Junhui stretched out his hand.
"Five thousand." Ye Shuyi guessed.
"no."
"Fifty thousand?" I dare not even think about it.
They are just a small business and each dish is not expensive.
Did they sell that many?
"Guessed it right!" Ye Junhui clapped his hands excitedly and opened the counter drawer.
A bag full of paper Hong Kong dollars.
"Shuyi! You are really the God of Wealth of this store. Since you helped, Ye's business has been getting better and better. It's all thanks to you!" Ye Junhui was very happy.
"You're being polite, Dad. I'm just doing what I should do. If you hadn't opened this shop, how would I have grown up like this? How would I have been able to use my culinary skills? You're the biggest contributor!"
The two of them praised each other's business and were in high spirits.
"The hand-shredded chicken will go on sale tomorrow. There will be no limit on the sales on the first day, so everyone can eat as much as they want. From the day after tomorrow, the number will be limited to 200 servings." Ye Shuyi talked about her plan.
"Why?" Ye Junhui felt that sometimes he couldn't understand what young people said. Was his brain behind the times?
"Two days ago, I told everyone that the official sales will start tomorrow, so we can't let everyone come without any supplies. The day after tomorrow, we'll limit the quantity. This will make this thing scarce, attract more people, and keep our customer base longer."
For high-end or famous restaurants, the number of people who make reservations can wait for half a year.
"Oh, I'll do as you say."
"Dad, you'd better take this money home. Don't leave it here. It's not safe." Ye Shuyi reminded.
Everyone can guess that the store made a lot of money today. To be on the safe side, Ye Junhui put all the money into his clothes and sneaked out through the back door.
Originally, they were thinking of "what if" but they didn't expect that when they came the next day, they would really encounter "what if"!
The door lock of Ye Ji Gourmet was broken, and it was a mess inside!
The ingredients were scattered all over the floor and the boxes on the counter were smashed.
There is a big "surprise" in the rice jar.
"Ugh!" Ye Junhui was angry and disgusted.
How could it be destroyed like this?
Ye Shuyi wanted to call the police immediately, but she found that even the telephone lines had been cut and buried.
Helpless, she had to go to the isolated shop to borrow a phone.
"Hello? Where are you?" The man's voice was lazy and tired, and the ending tone sounded a bit like he had just woken up.
"Chen Nanfeng, our Yeji Food Restaurant has been vandalized by a thief!" Ye Shuyi looked calm at first, but as soon as the call came, she couldn't help but sound aggrieved.
The call was not to the police hotline, but to a private number.
