Chapter 20 Let's watch a movie together tonight.
Around noon, Bai Zhenzhen got off the bus at the family compound, carrying more than ten shopping bags in both hands. Swaying gracefully in her high heels, she entered the compound.
The neighbors upstairs and downstairs saw the luxury car drive by and all craned their necks to look outside; many of them witnessed the scene.
Some people remarked that Prosecutor Shen's wife really spends money; the clothes and accessories she buys every day must cost a lot of money. They wondered if Prosecutor Shen's salary could support his wife.
For Bai Zhenzhen, these were just everyday occurrences, but to those with ulterior motives, they became high-profile and ostentatious. Rumors have been circulating in the family compound lately, all concerning Shen Huai'an and his wife, or more precisely, his wife.
However, the couple were unaware of this at the time. When Bai Zhenzhen entered the room, the first thing she saw was Shen Huai'an sitting on the sofa in the living room. He was very well-mannered, with a proper posture and a distinct profile.
Hearing the noise, he turned his head and looked over. His dark eyes were calm as water. Bai Zhenzhen subconsciously hid the paper bag she was carrying in her right hand behind her back, and her heart started beating faster than usual.
Just then, Aunt Wang walked over to take the bag from her hand, but Bai Zhenzhen quickly looked away and asked, "I'm so hungry, Aunt Wang, when are we going to eat?"
"It'll be ready soon. Oh, Xiao Shen, just peel a little bit of garlic. Zhenzhen doesn't like garlic, so I'm just adding it to the dish to enhance the flavor." After replying, Aunt Wang remembered what she had come out for. She turned to look at Shen Huai'an and saw that he had peeled a whole head of garlic. She quickly stopped him.
Bai Zhenzhen then noticed what Shen Huai'an was holding. Just now, the man was sitting there with an upright posture, and there was no indication that he was peeling garlic.
Also, she was only away from home for one morning. When did Aunt Wang become so familiar with him that she even calls him Xiao Shen?
Upon hearing Aunt Wang's words, Shen Huai'an put the peeled garlic into a bowl, and then got up and put the remaining unpeeled garlic back into the kitchen.
Aunt Wang followed behind him with peeled garlic, smiling as she said there wasn't much to do in the kitchen, so he could help out; they could eat as soon as the last dish was cooked.
Bai Zhenzhen listened to their conversation and took the opportunity to put the paper bag she was carrying into the dressing room. When she came out again, she saw Shen Huai'an with his sleeves rolled up, helping Aunt Wang serve dishes.
After all the dishes were served, Bai Zhenzhen stopped Aunt Wang and said, "You and Uncle Liu don't need to eat separately. There's no room for a second table here. Let's eat together."
When she lived in Cuihu Bay, Aunt Wang and Uncle Liu didn't eat with her. However, since there were no other options here, Bai Zhenzhen didn't mind eating with the elders who had taken care of her for over ten years.
Aunt Wang responded with a "yes," and Uncle Liu brought over the last pot of soup from the kitchen. They sat down to eat together.
Shen Huai'an didn't say anything during this time, only glancing at her with some surprise.
It's a good thing Bai Zhenzhen didn't see it, otherwise she would have rolled her eyes at him. How come he's the only one who knows how to respect his elders?
Aunt Wang and Uncle Liu don't usually eat with the host family, so they were a little uncomfortable and quickly finished their meal before heading back to the kitchen to clean up.
After the two of them were left at the table, Bai Zhenzhen sipped her winter melon and pork rib soup, looked up at Shen Huai'an and suggested, "We're free this afternoon, so why don't we go see a play?"
“I might have to go out this afternoon,” Shen Huai’an said, not entirely refusing, “If I come back early, I can go.”
Bai Zhenzhen was a little dissatisfied. He missed the movie last time, and he had other things to do this time. But thinking that she needed his help, she continued, "The play starts around 3:30 pm. Come back quickly after you finish your business."
"Yes, I'll try my best."
Not long after lunch, Shen Huai'an went out.
Bai Zhenzhen didn't plan to go out in the afternoon and suggested that Uncle Liu take him there to save time.
Shen Huai'an refused this time, saying, "I'll just go to the procuratorate; I don't need a car to take me."
Honestly, I promised to spend the weekend with her, but I still have to go to work.
This person is completely unreasonable. Bai Zhenzhen has never felt more frustrated in her entire life than she has in the last few days. Once she gets him, she's determined to vent her anger.
After everyone left, Bai Zhenzhen angrily picked up the phone and called Ren Lina, "Are you sure your method will really work?"
“It’s guaranteed to work,” Ren Lina’s voice sounded confident even through the phone. “Zhenzhen, you’re a great beauty. It’s impossible for him not to react to this, unless he’s impotent.”
"Would Shen Huai'an be alright?" Bai Zhenzhen recalled his tall and upright figure, and a touch of rouge quietly crept onto her cheeks.
It should be okay, right?
With Ren Lina's assurance, Bai Zhenzhen quickly regained her confidence, humming a song as she walked into the dressing room. She took out the bags she had brought back that morning and picked out a pink lace-trimmed silk slip dress.
This nightgown was similar to what she usually wore, except that it had much less fabric. The lace trim on the chest and sides of the waist was sexy and delicate. Bai Zhenzhen blushed and secretly took it into the bathroom to wash and hang it up.
Everything is ready, just waiting for Shen Huai'an to return.
Shen Huai'an, who had promised to return as soon as possible, didn't get back to the family compound until after 4 p.m.
He pushed open the door and saw Bai Zhenzhen sitting on the sofa with her arms crossed and an angry look on her face. Her eyes were full of condemnation when she looked at him.
Today, he went to the procuratorate to review past case files regarding Shen Qing's case, intending to find precedents and have Zhou Minghui use them as a reference to draft the lawsuit, so as not to give Wang and others a chance to overturn the case, and to directly go to the court for forced arrest.
Unexpectedly, he ran into Chief Prosecutor Zhao in the corridor when he was about to leave. Chief Prosecutor Zhao Guoan was his direct superior and the head of the Municipal Procuratorate. He was usually very serious and responsible in his work. He came to the procuratorate because he suddenly remembered the details of a case he was in charge of at home. When he saw Shen Huai'an there, he didn't think much and directly pulled him over to help.
Shen Huai'an knew that the chief prosecutor was in charge of urgent and major cases, so he did not refuse and went with him. Only after he finished was he remembered that Bai Zhenzhen was still waiting for him at home.
"I'm sorry, I forgot what I promised you." He was indeed in the wrong, and Shen Huai'an apologized to her.
Bai Zhenzhen wanted to say that she would not forgive him easily, and was about to glare at him when she saw Shen Huai'an take out several CDs from the paper bag he had brought back.
"These are movie DVDs I borrowed from my colleague. If you'd like to watch more, we can watch them together tonight." Shen Huai'an has a colleague who likes to watch all kinds of domestic and foreign movies. He's usually too busy to go to the cinema, so he's collected a lot of these DVDs.
On his way back, Shen Huai'an had specifically borrowed some from his colleagues. He hadn't watched many movies and didn't know much about them. Seeing that Bai Zhenzhen was interested, he gave her the paper bag containing the discs and let her choose.
Bai Zhenzhen took the paper bag and saw that there were at least twenty or thirty DVDs inside. There were definitely too many to watch in one night. She couldn't help but look up at him and wonder if he was planning to watch one DVD with her every day at home from now on.
Thinking about it that way, she wasn't so angry anymore. She opened the paper bag and placed the well-packaged DVDs on the table. She then noticed that many of them were romance movies, and she couldn't help but look up at him, a slight smile playing on her lips.
"That's more like it," Bai Zhenzhen reluctantly forgave him, and quickly picked out a disc from a pile of discs. "Let's watch this one tonight."
In her memory, this was a foreign romance film, recommended to her by Ren Lina, which contained some very intimate and daring scenes.
Shen Huai'an was only there to apologize, so he didn't say anything after she made her selection. He then casually put the other discs into a paper bag.
After Aunt Wang prepared dinner for them that evening, she and Uncle Liu left first.
When only the two of them were left at home, Shen Huai'an would voluntarily wash the dishes and tidy up after dinner.
Bai Zhenzhen sat at the dining table without leaving. From her angle, she could see Shen Huai'an's busy figure in the kitchen. The kitchen space was small, and Aunt Wang had brought over a lot of kitchen utensils, making his tall figure look even more cramped.
But Shen Huai'an's movements were slow and deliberate, and he didn't seem awkward at all. The apron belt around his waist accentuated his narrow and slender waist, making his shoulders look wider and his legs longer. You couldn't tell he had such a good figure when he usually wore loose clothes.
"Ahem, Shen Huai'an, I'm a little hot, I'm going to take a shower first, then we'll watch the movie later." Bai Zhenzhen felt her face getting hot, and thinking about what might happen tonight, she hurriedly said this and stood up to leave.
Shen Huai'an glanced back, gave a low reply, and continued tidying up the kitchen.
Bai Zhenzhen sneaked into the bedroom first, took down the nightgown she had washed herself that afternoon from the window. The fabric of the dress was thin and had long since dried. She crumpled it up and hugged it to her chest. Before leaving, she glanced at the kitchen like a thief to make sure Shen Huai'an hadn't seen her before quickly going into the bathroom.
Bai Zhenzhen didn't take a long bath, and when she came out, her cheeks were rosy, whether from the heat or something else, and she looked quite pretty.
She was still wearing a bathrobe that reached her calves, as Bai Zhenzhen couldn't bring herself to come out in such a revealing nightgown without giving herself some time to prepare.
In the living room, Shen Huai'an was studying the disc that Bai Zhenzhen had chosen. The English description on the packaging made it clear what kind of movie it was. He paused for a moment with his large, well-defined fingers holding the disc, but in the end, he did nothing.
"I'm done showering. Do you want to take a shower too before watching the movie?" Bai Zhenzhen walked behind him and looked down to see Shen Huai'an studying the DVD. Her brow twitched. She felt a little awkward and worried that he would see through her intentions.
Fortunately, Shen Huai'an didn't say anything. He put down the disc and stood up. The man who had just been looking down at her was now at a height where she had to slightly raise her chin to meet his gaze.
"Okay, I'll go tidy up first. You can take a look if you can't wait." Shen Huai'an was sweating, and although he didn't smell too bad, he was surrounded by a rich rose fragrance. He felt that he still needed to clean himself up.
"It's okay, I'll put the disc in first, and we can watch it together when you come out." Bai Zhenzhen said, taking another step forward before Shen Huai'an could step back, bending down and reaching for the disc on the table.
The bathrobe's neckline wasn't fitted; the V-neckline slightly opened as she bent over, and before Shen Huai'an could look away, he was met with a glimpse of snow-white fabric, the edges of which were subtly wrapped in a ring of light pink lace.
He calmly looked away, but the scene from just now still lingered in his mind. His Adam's apple bobbed uncontrollably twice. Shen Huai'an took a step back and hurriedly walked around the table, leaving the living room.
Bai Zhenzhen straightened up with the disc in her hand and saw him walk away after going around in a big circle. She was a little confused, but looking at the disc in her hand, she was filled with anticipation for the evening.
