Chapter 21 A romance movie turned into a horror movie
Bai Zhenzhen picked up the disc and walked to the TV to fiddle with the VD player. After putting the disc in, she didn't turn it on immediately, but sat back on the sofa and waited.
She sat somewhat absentmindedly, one leg crossed over her shoulder, swinging it gently. The slipper hooked on her toe fell to the ground with a thud, revealing her toes, which appeared even whiter and more delicate against the backdrop of red nail polish.
A few strands of wet hair slipped inside the half-open collar of her bathrobe, which Bai Zhenzhen brushed aside in annoyance.
The movement of her slender white fingertips gently tracing her collarbone was like a slow-motion scene in a movie to Shen Huai'an, who had just stepped out of the bathroom.
"Are you done washing up?" Bai Zhenzhen turned around when she heard the door open, urging the man who was standing inexplicably at the corner, "Come and watch a movie with me."
Shen Huai'an took a step forward and sat down on the other side of the sofa as instructed, about half a person's distance from Bai Zhenzhen.
Bai Zhenzhen glanced at him sideways, pouted slightly in dissatisfaction, and gestured for him to take the remote control and turn on the TV.
The DVDs my colleague collected were all brand new and played smoothly, but the movie started with Chinese narration, and the actors spoke Cantonese afterward. This was definitely not the foreign romance movie I was looking for.
At this moment, Shen Huai'an also noticed that the actors in the movie were speaking Cantonese. It was a Hong Kong and Taiwan movie DVD, and his colleague might have put it in the wrong place when he put it away after watching it.

She held his arms tightly with both hands, buried her face in his shoulder, and one of her slippers was thrown off by her sudden movement.
The muscles in the man's arm tensed instantly. Through two thin layers of fabric, the unexpected contact between hardness and softness created a completely different sensation that left Shen Huai'an's mind blank for a second. After realizing what had happened, his first thought was to pull his arm away, but he quickly stopped.
Because the tactile sensation he felt when he moved was stronger and clearer than when he was still, a strange tingling sensation in his arm reached his heart.
Shen Huai'an pursed his lips, his slightly lowered eyes darkening for a moment. He picked up the remote control again, and after the scary scene ended, he pressed pause. He told her in as calm a voice as possible, "It's okay, the scary scene is over."
Bai Zhenzhen was only slightly bolder than a pinhead at this point. Hearing his words, she still refused to let go of him. She gently rubbed her cheek against his shoulder, peeking out her eyes little by little, glancing at him before quickly closing them again. Only after confirming that Shen Huai'an was not lying to her did she dare to open her eyes and turn around completely.
Her heart was pounding, and she couldn't remember her purpose for tonight at all. But soon Bai Zhenzhen noticed that the two of them were in a very intimate position, much closer than when they first started watching the movie.

Bai Zhenzhen was unaware that her little scheme was about to be exposed. She continued to make up a story with her big eyes wide open, "I've heard about this movie from my friends before, but I've never dared to watch it. Today, I'll have you watch it with me."
"Are you really going to keep watching? Aren't you afraid of having nightmares tonight?"
Shen Huai'an finally turned to look at her, and Bai Zhenzhen also raised her head at the same time. The distance between the two of them instantly became so close that he could touch her if he lowered his head slightly. In a daze, his lowered gaze swept lightly over her eyebrows and eyes, and in the end, only that delicate red remained in his eyes.
Like the cherries hanging on the branches in my hometown, glistening with dew, the ripe cherries are bright red and translucent, exuding a fragrant and tempting sweetness, making them irresistible to pick.
His gaze flickered slightly as if burned, then he quickly looked away. His Adam's apple bobbed, and a strange thirst welled up on the tip of his tongue.
Bai Zhenzhen's arm was pulled away by Shen Huai'an's sudden movement of standing up. The man spoke in a low voice, "I'll go get a glass of water."
As he spoke, he walked straight out of the living room and headed to the kitchen, his back view conveying a sense of urgency no matter how you looked at it.
"Hey, then hurry back," Bai Zhenzhen was still a little scared. Although the living room was bright, she always felt that something was staring at her from the corner, which made her back go cold.
She shifted her body, putting both feet on the sofa. Feeling a bit cold in her legs, she reached out to grab the nap blanket on the sofa armrest. As she leaned back, her fingertips accidentally touched the remote control on the sofa, canceling the pause on the TV and resuming the movie.
Bai Zhenzhen froze for a moment, then quickly pulled her foot back upon hearing the sound. She covered her eyes and cried out, "Shen Huai'an! Shen Huai'an, come back to me!"
In the kitchen, Shen Huai'an had just taken a bottle of ice water out of the refrigerator and hadn't even had a chance to quench his sudden thirst when he heard Bai Zhenzhen's voice.
After waiting a few seconds and still no one came, Bai Zhenzhen peeked through a little bit of her fingers and, as luck would have it, stumbled upon a scene of a female ghost appearing. She screamed again and stepped onto the sofa to run to the kitchen.
"Shen Huai'an! Waaah, Shen Huai'an, come here quickly!" she cried out in fear as she stood up, her voice trembling with a hint of sobs.
Bai Zhenzhen has never been afraid of anything except ghosts since she was a child, and today she is truly risking her life to accompany him.
Fortunately, Shen Huai'an came out of the kitchen just in time and walked over just before she jumped off the sofa. Without thinking, Bai Zhenzhen opened her arms and threw herself into his arms.
This was different from the last time she accidentally fell. This time she was facing him, hugging him tightly, her arms wrapped around his neck, her soft body pressed against his chest.
Shen Huai'an's knuckles tightened unconsciously as he held the water bottle, and his other hand instinctively wrapped around her waist. The restlessness he hadn't yet suppressed was amplified at this moment.
He seemed to hear the sound of his heartbeat gradually becoming disordered.
Bai Zhenzhen really didn't mean it this time, but when Shen Huai'an held her in his arms, her panic gradually subsided. She gently raised her face, and the moment her watery eyes met the man's deep black pupils, her long, raven-feather-like eyelashes trembled incessantly.

Suddenly, everything went black, and the television that was playing a video beeped and automatically turned off, plunging the entire room into darkness.
"Ah!" Bai Zhenzhen cried out in a short voice. Her feet, which had been obediently on Shen Huai'an's feet, began to move restlessly, and she tried to climb onto him again using the strength of her arms.
Shen Huai'an was distracted by her restless movements. He threw away the ice water he was holding to quench his thirst, and lifted her up in his arms.
Bai Zhenzhen kicked her erratically with her dangling legs a couple of times, then, as she rose higher, she wrapped herself firmly around the man's narrow waist. Her buttocks were firmly supported by a large hand, and while she felt at ease, a belated sense of embarrassment and irritation also welled up in her heart.
"Don't be afraid, it's probably just a power outage," Shen Huai'an's voice seemed to deepen in the darkness, and then he asked, "Aren't we going to watch the movie?"
He realized he had asked a bit too much, and before Bai Zhenzhen could answer, he turned and started to walk her back to her bedroom.
But Bai Zhenzhen misunderstood. After she figured out that this was the way back to her room in the darkness, her fingers unconsciously tightened around the collar of his pajamas. She felt nervous and a little uneasy and timid about what was about to happen.
The darkness deprived him of sight, but at the same time amplified his other senses. As Shen Huai'an discerned his direction, he felt as if a playful kitten was crawling on him, rubbing against him and tilting its head to gently nudge his neck, making him breathe rapidly and his body increasingly tense.
Pushing open the bedroom door, Shen Huai'an walked a few steps to the bedside, gently leaned down to put the person on the bed.
Bai Zhenzhen's body touched the bed surface, but her hands wrapped around his neck did not immediately let go. The inertial force pressed down on the man, catching him off guard and causing his lips to unexpectedly touch a moist, soft touch.
A soft, cloud-like touch came from her lips, and Shen Huai'an paused in his movement to get up. The next second, he quickly reached out and took her arm, and then quickly got up and walked out.
When the man pressed down on her, Bai Zhenzhen shyly closed her eyes. By the time she realized something was wrong, she had already hurriedly left.
The ambiguous bubble that had just appeared in the room was instantly shattered, leaving Bai Zhenzhen with nothing but confusion.
