Chapter 46 Before I go abroad, remember to think of me…
At 6:30 p.m., Shen Huai'an walked out of the procuratorate gate carrying his bag. The security guard at the gate greeted him, "Prosecutor Shen, are you leaving get off work so early today?"
Shen Huai'an carried a bag in one hand and an umbrella in the other. Affected by the typhoon, it had been raining continuously for the past few days. The wind blowing in his face on the road carried a damp, cold, earthy smell.
"Yes, I'm not busy today, I'll head back now." Shen Huai'an replied briefly before leaving the procuratorate.
When we ran into colleagues who had just finished get off work, we greeted each other and then walked together.
His colleague jokingly asked him if his wife was angry because he hadn't been home for so long while working overtime.
He asked this because recently several people had seen Shen Huai'an buying flowers to take home on the street, and the bright red rose bouquets were clearly meant for someone.
When people talked about it privately, they were all surprised. They never expected that the cold and taciturn Prosecutor Shen would be so romantic. It must be that he often works overtime and makes his wife angry at home, so he bought flowers to coax her.
Shen Huai'an smiled and replied to his colleague, "My wife Zhenzhen is young, and I have indeed neglected her while I was busy with work. It's my fault."
He kept admitting his mistake, but his face was full of uncontrollable laughter. His colleague felt a pang of jealousy, realizing at a glance that this was probably just the couple's way of having fun. Didn't he look like he was enjoying it?
But jokes aside, after laughing, his colleague kindly gave him advice on how to please his wife, which was all based on his years of experience.
Shen Huai'an was indeed not good at matters of the heart, so he listened very carefully.
His colleague told him that simply sending flowers wasn't enough to win her over. He suggested giving her things she liked as gifts, taking her for a drive, to the movies, or a candlelight dinner. This opened up a whole new world for Shen Huai'an.
He said he had learned a lot, realizing there were so many ways for couples to strengthen their relationship. After listening, he sincerely thanked his colleague, as this was exactly what he needed, and his colleague had really helped him a lot.
But before Shen Huai'an could even find an opportunity to surprise Bai Zhenzhen, she gave him a huge surprise herself.
"The flight is confirmed? Okay, I understand." Bai Zhenzhen hung up the phone, her brows furrowing slightly, revealing a somewhat hesitant expression.
When Shen Huai'an opened the door and came in, he saw this scene. He walked over and sat down next to her, asking with concern, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Bai Zhenzhen didn't know how to tell him about this. When the two of them had a fight before, she had someone buy her a plane ticket to go abroad. She originally planned to fly abroad to accompany her father for surgery.
The flight was canceled due to the typhoon. After the two reconciled these past two days, the typhoon gradually subsided, and the international flights resumed. The phone call I just made was to tell her that the new flight has been confirmed, and she can leave anytime as long as she is ready.
“I had bought a plane ticket to go abroad, but the flight was canceled a couple of days ago and I couldn’t go. The flight resumed today,” Bai Zhenzhen told him truthfully, adding, “It’s not that I didn’t want to tell you, it’s just that I couldn’t see you at all the past few days.”
Shen Huai'an held her in silence for a moment. It was indeed his fault. He had chosen to temporarily escape when facing the problem, and it was understandable that Bai Zhenzhen was angry and chose to go abroad early.
“I don’t blame you. I fully support you going to accompany your father for surgery.” Shen Huai’an knew that Bai Zhenzhen and her father had a good relationship. He supported her going abroad to accompany her father for treatment. It was just too sudden, and he couldn’t help but feel a little reluctant for a while. “Have you booked your plane ticket? I’ll come to see you off on that day.”
"Hmm, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow." Bai Zhenzhen's passport and other travel documents had already been processed, and her visa was valid for a certain period. Of course, the sooner the better, so she could spend more time with her father.
Although she was a little reluctant, her father was still the most important person in her heart, so Bai Zhenzhen had someone book the next available flight for her.
She hesitated just now because she didn't know how to tell him. Although Bai Zhenzhen didn't think Shen Huai'an's opinion could influence her, she knew she had gone a bit too far by only telling him about it now that she was about to leave, especially since Shen Huai'an had been very good to her recently.
Thinking of this, Bai Zhenzhen took the initiative to hug Shen Huai'an's neck and kiss his chin, her soft red lips pecking at the corner of his mouth twice, with a hint of compensation.
Shen Huai'an didn't blame her. After noticing her emotions, he quickly composed himself and leaned down to kiss her back. "I'm sorry, I can't go with you. The environment abroad is unfamiliar, so please take good care of yourself."
Bai Zhenzhen's departure date was finally set for the day after tomorrow, which happened to be a Saturday. After being battered by a typhoon, Shenzhen finally welcomed back the long-awaited clear skies.
It was a rare fine day. Shen Huai'an was taking Bai Zhenzhen to the airport when Shen Qing happened to be on holiday. Upon hearing the news, she insisted on coming to see her sister-in-law off, so she brought her along.
Shen Qing said many goodbyes to Bai Zhenzhen in the car, and after arriving at the airport, she spent her last moments with her brother.
Amidst the noisy surroundings of people coming and going, Shen Huai'an held Bai Zhenzhen's hand and gave her a final reminder of the precautions, telling her to call him as soon as she landed and settled in to let him know she was safe.
Bai Zhenzhen didn't mind his nagging anymore. When the ticket check announcement came on, she dropped her luggage and rushed into Shen Huai'an's arms, where he held her tightly.
At this moment, the emotions of parting reached their peak, and Bai Zhenzhen felt a little down. Only then did she realize that Shen Huai'an had already unknowingly entered her heart.
"Shen Huai'an, I will miss you," she buried her head in his chest, her voice muffled as she urged, "You must miss me too, okay?"
“Yes, I’ll miss you too,” Shen Huai’an wanted to look at her one last time. He reached out and lifted her face, but when he saw her slightly red eyes, his heart skipped a beat. He couldn’t help but lower his head and gently kiss her forehead. “What should I do, Zhenzhen? I’m already starting to miss you.”
The two's intimate behavior, oblivious to everyone else, stunned Shen Qing. She subconsciously covered her eyes with her hands, but couldn't help peeking curiously through her fingers. Then she heard her usually calm and reliable second brother say such cheesy things.
Hmm... Mom and Dad probably don't know that my second brother has this side to him.
Shen Huai'an didn't notice the look in his younger sister's eyes. After releasing the person in his arms, he solemnly asked Secretary Wang, who was traveling with him, to take good care of Bai Zhenzhen.
Secretary Wang wore her usual smile. "Mr. Shen, rest assured, my boss received the news early this morning and has already arranged for someone to wait outside the airport upon arrival. I will also do my best to take good care of Miss on this flight."
He was not only accompanying Bai Zhenzhen abroad, but also reporting on the company's situation to Bai Chuxiong; he had a mission to complete.
After everyone said their goodbyes, Secretary Wang helped Bai Zhenzhen carry her suitcase and took her to check in.
After passing through security, Bai Zhenzhen waved to Shen Huai'an and his sister from afar before her figure was quickly obscured by the crowd. Shen Huai'an stood there for a while before leaving the airport with Shen Qing.
The service in the first-class cabin was top-notch, and with Secretary Wang by her side to take care of her, Bai Zhenzhen's time on the plane passed relatively quickly. Apart from a brief period of turbulence that made her a little dizzy, she woke up to find the plane had already landed.
Before Bai Zhenzhen could even process her longing after leaving the airport, Secretary Wang led her to the car that her father had arranged in advance.
They went directly to the sanatorium where Bai's father was staying. Along the way, Bai Zhenzhen saw through the car window the different customs and atmosphere of this foreign land compared to the keyboards in China. The streets were full of Western faces dressed in bold and avant-garde styles. Bai Zhenzhen's curiosity was piqued, and she completely forgot about what Shen Huai'an had told her to report that she had arrived safely.
It wasn't until he arrived at the sanatorium and met Bai Chuxiong, and switched to the foreign communication equipment Bai Chuxiong had prepared in advance, that he remembered to call Shen Huai'an.
It was the early hours of the morning in China, but Shen Huai'an answered the phone very quickly, clearly having been waiting with the time on his mind.
After Bai Zhenzhen answered the phone, she listened to his concerned words and greetings to Bai Chuxiong. She coughed twice and remembered to inquire about his situation. Before she knew it, they had been chatting for more than ten minutes. It was Bai Chuxiong who reminded her to pay attention to the time and not to delay Shen Huai'an's rest before she hung up the phone.
"Dad, how are you feeling? Have the doctors here said when they can schedule your surgery?" Bai Zhenzhen was very concerned about Bai Chuxiong's health. If she hadn't noticed that he was in good condition when she first met him, she would have asked earlier.
Bai Chuxiong took her to a suite at the sanatorium to rest. On the way, he told her, "You're recovering very well. I estimate that you can have surgery once your next physical assessment is satisfactory. Do you want to stay here with me for the next few days, or should I find someone to accompany you to a hotel in the city center?"
The Bai family is very wealthy, but Bai's father is a patriotic businessman who is somewhat miserly. He has been abroad for a long time and has no intention of buying any real estate or anything. However, he knows his daughter's preferences and will not restrict her in terms of money.
"Since you're going abroad, treat it as a vacation. When you have free time, have someone accompany you to explore the area and see different scenery."
Bai Zhenzhen blinked. She was indeed tempted by her father's suggestion, but she didn't forget the purpose of her trip. She decided to stay with him at the sanatorium for the next few days before happily going on a trip with the people arranged by her father.
Perhaps she was having too much fun and forgot about home, because Shen Huai'an, who was far away in China, felt neglected. Being so far away, he didn't know what was going on, and he couldn't help but feel worried. It wasn't until he learned from Bai's father what Bai Zhenzhen had been busy with lately that he showed a somewhat unspeakable expression.
Very good, this is very Bai Zhenzhen, it's definitely something she could do.
Shen Huai'an was relieved. A helpless smile appeared on his face over the phone. He told Bai's father to ask him to help persuade Bai Zhenzhen to call him back when she was free.
We promised each other we'd miss each other when we parted, but it turns out he was the only one who kept his promise.
