Chapter 143 Tearing Off the Face

“You…this…” Guo’s mother pointed at her, looking her up and down.

"It's her, Mom! She's the one who made our family lose face! If you have any grudges or hatred, take it out on her!"

Back at her own home, Guo Xueyun became completely unrestrained, and her mother gritted her teeth and slapped her daughter twice.

"Speak properly! Do you even want your job anymore?!"

Tsk, so it was for her job. Jiang Wanqing raised an eyebrow. It seems that Guo's parents cherish this daughter very much.

"Comrade Jiang, please have a seat."

Guo's father forced a smile that looked more like a grimace onto his stern face, invited her to sit down, and poured her tea, showing no lack of basic courtesy.

She suppressed her worries, sat down, and politely thanked him.

"Teacher Guo only said she wanted to talk to me, now it's..." She paused deliberately.

“It is indeed my Xueyun who wants to talk to you, but this child is not good at speaking, and we are afraid that she will offend you again with a few words, so we asked her to invite you to our home.”

"Invite? Heh, well, it seems that Teacher Guo usually invites people like this."

Recalling what happened at the train station, Jiang Wanqing couldn't help but feel a little sarcastic. The Guo family elders exchanged a glance, and Guo's mother sat down next to her daughter and nudged her arm.

"Apologize!"

"Mom! Why should I apologize? Hasn't she hurt me badly enough?" Guo Xueyun turned her face away and refused to say sorry.

In this family of three, one plays the good cop and the other the bad cop. Jiang Wanqing can't see through the thoughts of the Guo family elders, but their daughter is so foolish that she only scratches the surface.

"No need to apologize. Just say what you want to talk about. If we keep dragging this out, it'll be lunchtime soon. I don't want to stay, and I'm sure you don't want me to stay for dinner either."

Jiang Wanqing chuckled as she steered the conversation in a different direction. She wasn't planning on playing any tricks on the Guo family elders; after all, they had survived a time of war and chaos, and they wouldn't have made it this far without a bit of cunning. She treated them with great caution.

"Ha, Comrade Jiang is really true to himself. No wonder Cheng Ran likes you. My Xueyun is indeed not as good as you."

These words sounded like a compliment, but upon closer listening, they weren't quite what they seemed. Jiang Wanqing was too lazy to argue with them and stood up.

"If you want to talk about me and Cheng Ran, I'm sorry I can't keep you company."

"Wait, wait!" Mr. Guo hurriedly stopped her: "Ahem... Alright, since that's the case, then we'll get straight to the point. We've called you here today to ask you to go to the school to clear up the stain on my Xueyun's record. She's been suspended until now, and if she doesn't go back to work soon, she might never be able to return."

"So what? What does it have to do with me?"

"you……"

Guo's mother reached out anxiously. She had only heard about her daughter's prowess from her own words; she was said to be quick-witted and sharp-tongued. She hadn't expected her to be so straightforward and blunt, leaving no room for retreat.

“Heh, Comrade Jiang, you’re still young and it’s understandable that you’re hot-blooded. But this society isn’t what you think. I heard that your hometown is an obscure little village. It’s not easy for you to get to where you are today. Do you really want to ruin your future so easily?” Guo’s father looked at her and took a sip of tea.

She remained silent, sitting calmly with not a trace of tension or fear on her face. Seeing this, Mr. Guo paused in his tea-drinking, gripped the cup tightly, and slammed it down.

"Hmph! We wanted to have a proper talk with you. If Xueyun goes back to work at Huada University, we'll pretend nothing happened. But if you keep making excuses and refuse to help, our family won't let you bully us. Comrade Jiang, one should know when to back down."

They've escalated to the point of threats so quickly, yet they have no leverage whatsoever, trying to get something for nothing. No wonder even the smartest parents can't raise smart children.

Jiang Wanqing picked up the teacup, examined it carefully, and looked up: "Indeed, families that can afford such tea sets must have strong networks of connections, which I certainly cannot match."

"Good to know."

Seeing that she seemed to be giving in, Guo's father softened his tone, and Guo Xueyun sat up straight, sneering contemptuously.

To everyone's surprise, Jiang Wanqing said the next second, "It is a matter of my fairness and justice. Let things be as they should be. I will not contradict myself."

"What did you say?!"

"Bang!"

Mr. Guo slammed his fist on the table and stood up, his face contorted with rage, the wrinkles on his face resembling chrysanthemums.

"Comrade Cheng, you can't go in, wait..."

The atmosphere was tense when Cheng Ran burst in from outside, and the room immediately fell silent.

"Cheng Ran, you... why are you here?"

Jiang Wanqing turned her head and saw that he was furious. When he saw that she was safe and sound, he breathed a sigh of relief, walked towards her, and took her hand.

Are you alright?

"It's nothing, what brings you here?"

"I'm here to pick you up."

The two of them talked as if no one else was around, leaving the Guo family standing to the side. Cheng Ran didn't say anything, but his warning gaze swept over the family of three, which was extremely intimidating.

Mr. Guo opened his mouth, thinking that as an elder, and in his own home, he couldn't lose face in front of the younger generation. But before he could speak, Cheng Ran interrupted him, leaving him speechless.

“If you want to talk to my wife again, talk to me first, otherwise I will call the police.”

"That's not how it is, Cheng Ran. You've misunderstood. We just wanted to get to know Comrade Jiang. We didn't do anything to her. Don't be angry."

Guo's mother quickly explained, fearing that she would worsen the relationship and make the knot impossible to untie.

"Auntie, it's one thing for you to harass me at my workplace, but today you went directly to the train station to intercept me. Is this a reasonable approach? Are you trying to solve the problem or coerce my wife?"

When he heard that the Guo family had harassed him at his workplace, Jiang Wanqing's eyes flickered. Suddenly, everything made sense. No wonder Guo Xueyun was so flustered that she went to the station to stop him herself.

"No...it's a misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding...sigh..."

"Let's go."

Cheng Ran didn't want to listen to their nonsense at all. He took Jiang Wanqing's hand and left the Guo family without staying for even a second longer.

"Let him go!" Guo's father was so angry that his chest ached. He cursed, "I treated him like a son since he was little, what a heartless bastard!"

"Dad, my job..."

The Guo family was in complete chaos. Since the deal with Jiang Wanqing hadn't been reached, Guo Xueyun's return to work had to be postponed, which was agonizing for her.

"What's the panic? There'll be a way. At worst, I'll risk my reputation. I refuse to believe it!"

After leading Jiang Wanqing out of the Guo family, Cheng Ran's expression remained tense as he repeatedly confirmed that she was not injured.

"They really didn't do anything to you?"

She shook her head: "No, they wouldn't dare. But you... how did you find us so quickly?"

"You still dare to say that? You told me not to pick you up, but when I got to the station, I couldn't find you. The officers at the police station told me you had been picked up by a car, so I followed the license plate number to find you."

"I'm sorry, I never expected Guo Xueyun to go so crazy..."

As soon as she finished speaking, Cheng Ran hugged her tightly and gently patted her back.

"I should apologize to you for not being able to go back with you to deal with your parents' affairs, and for almost letting you be bullied by the Guo family."
