Everything returned to normal. This month, Jiang Wanqing and Mo Li were preparing for the factory's opening. She only went to the laboratory at school, and Professor Xue immersed himself in the ideas and plans she had given him, which was equivalent to going into seclusion.
Whether unrelated people wield power or influence, they no longer care.
A month later, the factory was completed as scheduled, and Jiang Wanqing and the other "founders" all went to preside over and participate in the factory construction ceremony.
They were accompanied by their elders and friends. Except for Jiang Wanqing's parents, who refused to come because they were afraid of causing trouble, everyone who could come did.
The newly recruited workers also put on work clothes, and Jiang Wanqing organized everyone to take a group photo at the factory gate as a memento.
Everyone straightened their clothes and hair, and those who had put on makeup quickly touched it up before filming began.
"Come on, everyone, stand up straight. I'll count to three, and then you can smile, okay?" The photographer gestured to everyone from behind the camera.
"good!"
The new factory was completed, and everything looked thriving. Just as filming was about to begin, Molly suddenly called a halt.
"Wait a moment!"
From the beginning, she had been craning her neck to look at the various intersections at the entrance. Jiang Wanqing knew what she was waiting for, but her parents were also present today. She thought that even if Hong Xing didn't come, she would be able to hold back.
"Wanqing... could you wait a few more minutes, just a little longer..." She looked at Jiang Wanqing with pleading eyes, then turned to everyone and sincerely said sorry.
"There are still people who haven't arrived yet, please wait a bit, everyone, please."
She clasped her hands together, and on such a joyous day, everyone was happy to show their good side and said they could wait.
"It's okay, it's just a few more minutes, it's fine."
"She must be someone important. Look how anxious Comrade Mo is. Maybe it's someone he's in love with," someone joked.
Jiang Wanqing and Cheng Ran exchanged a glance, knowing that those who understood would understand, and they didn't say anything more.
While waiting, Molly's mother pulled her aside and asked her in a low voice.
"What's going on? Your dad and I are here. Who are you waiting for? It's not really your sweetheart, is it? Which family does he come from? How old is he? What do his family do? Have we met before?"
A barrage of questions, coupled with Mo's mother's expectant and curious expression, were met with questions from Mo's father beside her.
"Yes, that's good for us so we can be prepared and recognize them when they arrive."
Molly tightened her grip on her fingers, feeling uncertain. She had only suggested waiting for someone in a moment of desperation; a month had already passed, and Hung Hing still hadn't arrived. She didn't even know if they would come at all.
She pursed her lips and said, "Mom, please don't ask anymore. It's just... a regular friend. Ugh, you wouldn't understand even if I told you. Anyway, it's not what you think right now."
"Okay, okay, not now, but it will be later, right? But why hasn't this person arrived yet? Have you all agreed?"
While Mo's mother was still asking questions, Mo's father noticed first that his daughter was feeling down.
He tugged at his wife's hand: "Don't ask anymore, just wait. We'll see you when you arrive."
"Oh, but... this child..." She sighed with worry, her crow's feet furrowing.
Five minutes of waiting seemed insignificant to everyone, and ten minutes was also manageable, as it would pass quickly with just a few words. However, after waiting for about twenty minutes without anyone arriving, some people became impatient.
The photographer said impatiently, "Hey buddy, if you ask me, let's not wait anymore. I have to rush to the next shoot after I finish. I can't waste my time at your place."
"Comrade Mo, who exactly are you waiting for? Are you sure you'll come?"
"Yeah, it's a perfectly good day. He's late, and it looks like he's not coming at all. Why are we even waiting for him?"
"Hurry up and take the picture, we have to go to work after that."
The call was met with enthusiastic support, though many were somewhat dissatisfied. Molly's eyes were brimming with tears that threatened to fall.
Jiang Wanqing walked over and pulled the person back to the photo-taking position.
"Take pictures, take pictures now, don't wait any longer."
Molly didn't struggle, forcing a smile. Fortunately, the black and white photos didn't show everyone's expressions very well, so it was still quite harmonious.
Afterwards, Cheng Ran's eyes inadvertently glanced at a telephone pole not far away. A figure quickly hid, looking somewhat disheveled. He frowned.
Tong Jiang Wanqing said, "I'll be right back."
"Hmm?" She looked in the direction he was looking, as if she understood something, and nodded: "Yes, I'll take them in first."
Outside, dust was flying everywhere and the sun was blazing. After taking the photos, everyone headed into the factory.
Midway through, the Cheng family elders said they couldn't be of much help if they stayed, so they gave Jiang Wanqing a large red envelope as a congratulatory gift, and then hurriedly left.
She was almost caught off guard when Cheng's mother waved her hand.
"Don't bother seeing us off, we can get back on our own, everything went smoothly!"
Having cleared up the previous misunderstandings and prejudices, and to be fair, Cheng's mother now seemed more like an elder. Jiang Wanqing smiled and waved to them, thinking that she would return the red envelopes when she went back to the Cheng family next time.
On the other side, Mo's parents pulled their daughter aside with serious expressions and gave her a lecture.
"Tell us, which man are you waiting for? Can't you see he has any responsibility? We've been waiting for him for so long, and there's not even a ghost in sight. Who owes her anything? Why are you so eager to get involved?"
Because of his absence, Molly's parents' impression of Hung Hing, whom they had never met, plummeted.
“Your mother is right. What kind of outstanding person is worth waiting for like this? Friends and relatives have introduced you to many excellent men, but none of them are as good as yours.”
Once people harbor dissatisfaction, it's easy to form a preconceived impression, so Jiang Wanqing quickly stepped forward to salvage the situation.
"Uncle and Aunt, you've misunderstood. The person Molly is waiting for isn't in the kind of relationship you're thinking of; they're just an ordinary friend. I can vouch for that. Maybe something came up today..."
Before she could finish speaking, Molly interrupted her: "Wanqing, you don't need to cover for me anymore. I'm waiting for the person I like. Mom and Dad, I know his character. I will prove to you that he is an excellent person!"
After saying that, she immediately ran out. Mo's mother was so angry that she turned to chase after her, but Jiang Wanqing quickly stopped her.
"Auntie, please calm down. Go to your office and sit for a while. Everything will be fine. Molly just went out for some fresh air. Trust me."
"This child is spoiled too much! If only you were half as good as her, we wouldn't have to worry about her. If you found a man as good as Comrade Cheng, what else could we say? The problem is we don't know where you'd find him..." Mother Mo clapped her hands and shook her head helplessly.
Jiang Wanqing looked a little embarrassed. She couldn't very well tell them at this critical moment that the person Molly was waiting for was a comrade-in-arms who had gone through thick and thin with Cheng Ran.
"Ahem... You're too kind. Let me take you inside to rest first."
They understood their daughter after all; no matter how rebellious she was, she wouldn't neglect her family. So they were just sulking for a while, and they believed Molly would come home eventually. They would find a time to ask her about it.
